I am very much an "elliptical" body shape and look much wider from straight-on than I do from the side. My rib measurement under bust is 34" and goes straight down. Finally at my belly button, I get a nice "small" measurement of 32". I don't consider myself to be carrying much "extra" ... I *think* its my structure. And my high hip bone isn't far below the bottom rib, so Imogen's post for the H-shape helped me realize exactly why I never have a defined waist.
