@unfrumped - All the tops will be for both work and weekend. The dress code were I work is casual.

@Jsloane - I would never have thought of that until you and DonnaF mentioned it. Thanks!

@Beth Ann - My original thought when I decided to do 12x12 was that I wanted to slow down my shopping habit and not buy things that I wasn't 100% sure would work for me and I was still trying to figure out exactly what my style was. Now that I'm starting to get a feel for what will work for me, I think you and Angie are right and I should go for SYB.

I saw several different jacket lengths at Old Navy when I went. At first, the length I got was only online and I think it may have finally made it to the stores within the last week or so.

@Angie - I agree. I think I should shoot for SYB. And yay! I have a descriptor!

I was going to suggest a SYB scenario too.

Great haul and I'm excited to see them on :)

How about Casual Gamine Classic?

Maybe at this point a SYB might help you better meet your style goals? You are buying on the "value" end of the fashion continuum, so I certainly don't see wasteful spending on clothing that isn't practical (oh, and I've done that). What were your reasons for choosing 12/12? I know I tend to buy in spurts, particularly in early spring (warmer wardrobe) and late summer/early fall for winter items. I love me a good pre-season promotion!

I tried the shrunken denim jacket yesterday --- it was generous in the body (more so than the longer jacket I already own from ON), but it was halfway up my torso! So glad to know it works for you! I loved it's weight and stretch.

Can't wait to see these styled!

I like your choices, especially the polkadot tops. They look like they'd layer under the last stripe top (an Angie trick) and everything will look nice with white bottoms - very crisp for spring/summer.

Great ideas for honing your style and good luck with the journey! Are all the tops for work? The blouses look like they would be versatile in a casual work environment- fun- tailored mix.The striped tops read pretty casual.

Yay for style siblings!

When I've bought dupes, one typically does get worn more than the other. However, the other one still gets plenty of wear so I'm hoping I stay with it. I limit my self to dupes, though. I think if I bought triplets or more of the same thing (except for white camis), then some probably wouldn't get worn.

I hadn't thought about shadow personas. I think I'll maintain my styles fairly closely. There are some things in my closet that won't get purged because they're weekend clothes. I probably should have said that things that haven't been worn since I got it or in a year or two will go if I don't think they'll work with my style. If they can work, I'll keep them and try to work them in. If I still can't/don't, then they'll go out. I'm also trying to get rid of some weekend clothes that aren't being worn because I'd rather have space for work clothes than weekend clothes.

I have a problem with being a pack rat as well. What I've started doing is spending an hour or 2 every weekend and going through a few things. If it needs to go out, then I'm putting it a bag. When the bag is full, I'm donating it. It's slow going, but it's been working for me.

These are very cute; I think our styles have big overlaps and I LOVE polka dots. Can you layer #2 & #3 under #4 & #5? Other people have said that when they buy dupes in different colors, one tends to get under worn. I know I tend to buy dupes (or triples, or even more!), and I guess this is true for me. Since you said you are trying to keep to 12x12, I am bringing this up, and am wondering if this would happen to you?

Please note: I am on a 12x12, well maybe 15X12 journey this year and on Tuesday, UPS is scheduled to deliver the same striped top in two different colors. Just one top will put me into April if I count Valentine's Day as a bonus purchase. I am hoping that one of the tops will turn out to play better with what I have so that the return of the other will be a no-brainer.

As to style goals: Do you feel you maintain the same persona throughout all aspects of your life: Work, hanging out with friends, etc.? Or do you think you might have a shadow persona(s) a la GoldenPig? Just askin' cuz you mentioned that you're purging stuff that doesn't align with your identified style. (Note: I'm a bit of a hoarder and am still trying to figure out how the facets/offshoots of my core style play out.)

It's only the second full week of Feburary and I've already bought half of my 12x12 things (and I'm not counting the replacements a bought with a GC earlier). But, in my defense, I've been working on putting together my style goals and figuring out my style.

1) I want to look more professional at work. For me, this means out with the old college t-shirts and in with nicer tops and button downs.

2) I'm still working on my style descriptor, but I'm leaning towards a classic gamine. I said playful gamine a while back, but I felt that was a bit redundant.

I'm also working through my wardrobe and removing things that don't work with these ideas.

Below are the pics of the tops I bought recently.

Pic 1 - Old Navy shrunken denim jacket - I think this will look nice over a few of my dresses when I go out on the weekends. I saw a cuter one at Ann Taylor Loft a while back, but it was out of my price range for something I wasn't 100% sure about.

Pic 2 - Gap Outlet blue polka dot button down - I think it will look great with my new red shoes.

Pic 3 - Gap Outlet green polka dot

Pic 4 - Ann Taylor Loft Outlet purple and white striped top

Pic 5 - Ann Taylor Loft Outlet blue, green, black and yellow striped top - I normally don't wear yellow, but since it's so far from my face, I think it shouldn't wash me out

I'll have pics of them styled later, but I need to wash them before I wear them. Any thoughts on my goals, style descriptor or anything else are very welcome!
