The Kevin Aucoin mascara is the only mascara I have ever used that doesn't smudge under my eyes. Total game changer. I think Viva was the one who recommended it -- so thank you to her for the recommendation.

We went to Paris in October and, before we went, I did some research on the favorite French skin creams and oils of a number of women. I went to CityPharma (told my husband to go see some sights for a couple of hours) and bought the following. (Also bought my favorite toothpaste Marvis Licorice and several hair products by Klorane.)

I have only tried two so far and they are both fantastic:

-Nuxe Huile Prodigleuse (wonderful dry skin oil)
-Biafine ACT (great all-purpose cream for rough or damaged skin)

Have not tried these yet as I want to use up current stock of other products:

-Bioderma Sebium Pore Refiner
-Bioderma Sensibio H20makeup remover
-Bioderma Crealine makeup remover
-Embryolisse Lait-Creme Concentré moisturiser & crême
-Labello lip balm

I too love Paula's Choice products. I agree, the prices have gotten high. I wait for sales and free shipping and stock up then. I added the Brightening Essence recently on an excellent promotion, and it's really lovely. Just a drop adds a nice glow to my skin. I already had been using the 1% retinol, the 2% BHA liquid, and the vitamin C occasionally. I'm intrigued by The Ordinary, though, and might have to look into that! Thanks!

Deb - I don't mind those LM Caviar stick shadows. I have two , and while I don't use them regularly, they are pretty decent at staying in place. I just crayon them on my lid and just a tiny bit above the crease and then blend it out with a brush. Easy.

I discovered Skinceuticals, a brand I wanted to try for a while but did not want to spend the money. In October, while in California, I had a facial at the Ritz Carlton and was amazed how beautiful my skin was afterwards using Skinceutical products. Mind you, I get facials on a regular basis and while in southern California my skin was bone dry. I did not buy anything when I was out there, but came home with a list of the products they used on me. My skin looked just as great for the next 4 weeks until my next facial at home and my aesthetician even commented on how great my skin still was after that California facial. After my last facial I did not see the same great results. I promptly switched to a place that uses Skinceuticals and I have never been happier.

I did end up buying a few of their products via approved sellers with 25% off which made me less nervous about spending so much money. The products I love are the CE Ferullic Serum, Hyaluronic Acid Serum (this has been a blessing this very cold and dry winter season!!), Eye Balm and Emolience moisturizer. Plus I am using their .5 Retinol cream twice a week as my skin acclimates. I still am using my Obagi sunscreen until I run out and then will buy the Skinceutical one. I also want to try their
B5 gel and maybe use the triple lipid restore moisturizer when I am done with my current one.

My favorite 2017 new find was a matte lip tint (Saemmul Water Candy Tint). I usually don't like matte lipsticks as I find them drying and cakey (even those that profess not to be so), and also too intensely saturated. But this lip tint is magic. It goes on velvety and it makes your lips look absolutely stunning without being overwhelming. It's nicely scented and my lips don't feel dry.

I'm not great at wearing lipstick (I don't know how to eat/drink and still keep it on!) so it does wear off and I need to reapply, but that's always the case for me.

This is a Korean brand; I've been a K-beauty convert since 2016...

1. Clé de Peau concealer
2. NARS Tinted Moisturizer
3. Tom Ford Brow Sculptor

Clé de Peau concealer is fantastic. I'm not sure how it would work under eyes, but for blemishes or any other spots, it's like a magic eraser. It's expensive, but will last me forever. I've also been really happy with NARS tinted moisturizer. I just apply it in areas that need a little coverage. It stays all day, doesn't oxidize, and blends well. The Tom Ford brow pencil comes in the perfect shade (not too warm), doesn't look waxy but still has enough hold to keep hairs in place, and comes with it's own spoolie and a brilliant hidden sharpener.

Cins, I really love Paula's Choice products too and I agree that the prices have gotten out-of-hand. So disappointing. I still use several of her moisturizers, but I wait for a sale and free shipping.

Deb, the LM stick eyeshadows have always looked so interesting, but I'm not sure how to apply them. Maybe it's time for an appointment at the counter!

Guerlain primer, Lancome foundation, and Bobbi Brown Brown lip pencil. Interesting to see I'm not the only one who loves that pencil. I stockpiled it recently fearing it will disappear like other of her products do. Also Urban Decay lipstick. R&Co hair products - their dry shampoo paste is pretty awesome.

The jury is still out, but a new-to-me to product is Oribe Dry Texturizing Spray, which I purchased for myself to put in my Christmas stocking (does anyone else do this, LOL?)

My hair grows really quickly, so my grey roots start to show after two weeks...and then my layers go flat. I am hoping this will add texture, lift, and act as a dry shampoo to help me maintain my cut a bit longer. I haven’t really had a chance to spend some time really playing with it yet, though.

Fun thread! I use the Bite lip mask too and find it amazing. I haven't tried other lip masks, but I can't imagine them being better than this one.

For beauty products that I tried and enjoyed this year, I would say SkinCeuticals Physical Defense sunscreen SPF 50, EvanHealy lavender hydrosol with Argan Intensive Serum, EvanHealy whipped shea with olive leaf, W3ll People blue mascara, and Naturopathica Wrinkle Repair Cream with retinol.

Regarding the serums like retinol and vitamin C, etc., I like the research behind Paula’s Choice products, but they are getting expensive, so I’ve been exploring The Ordinary too. Many of Paula’s Choice products are mixes of what the Ordinary offers in single ingredient, and the claim is they work well together, so why have separate ones. Retinol, Vit.C, niacinimide all have research to back them up. I also use a chemical exfoliator 10%, every other day (too strong for daily). The most important though, is a daily sunscreen, SPF of 30 or more. I use Cerave A.M. and/or Physician’s Formula Cushion foundation SPF 50. Both contain anti-oxidants. I love the airbrushed look of the foundation, but if you have drier skin and moisturizer underneath might be needed. Been doing this regime for at least 15 years. I am 63 and most people think I’m in my mid fifties. Just need to figure out a way to get the rest of my skin to look that good without breaking the bank!

OPI Infinite Shine Nail Lacquer.

I love polishing my nails occasionally, but often feel like it's a waste of time and money because it starts looking shabby within 2 or 3 days. I've tried gel a few times and it does last for almost 2 weeks, but is a real pain to remove and I have a feeling is not vey healthy for the nail bed. I had two manicures over the past 6 weeks using the OPI lacquer. It lasted for 9 days the first time, and 6 the second, and comes off just like regular polish. The time it lasted only 6 days I really beat it up...spent one full day preparing a turkey dinner including wrestling with giblets frozen into the bird because I didn't leave enough thaw time.

I'm going to buy some of this polish so I can occasionally do it at home and I think I'm going to be polishing my nails more often this year!

Thanks for posting this Deb. I am going to check out the cream stick eyeshadows. I rarely change my makeup but I actually started using a lip pencil. I have about 3 in my possession and none of them had been used. Now I use a lip pencil (currently Bobbi Brown - Brown) all over my lips and then put a clear gloss on my lips.

I thought I would post new to me beauty items I found in 2017. In the past new items would slowly find their way into my cupboards but 2017 was an experimental year for me, so it seems. Here is what I have kept using,

1. The Ordinary products. Namely Retinol 1% in Squalane, Vitamin C Suspension 23% + HA Spheres, Buffet, and Glycolic Acid 7%.
2. DCL - 10% and 20% Radiance Peel
3. Ceramidin Cream
4. Bite - Agave Lip Mask
5. Laura Mercier Caviar Stick eye shadows
6. Mally Ever Color Shadow Sticks

I rotate the weekly the Retinol and Vitamin C serums and have noticed a big difference with the dark spots on my face. I used the 20% glycolic acid once a week and the 10% glycolic acid on the other days during the summer. Once the weather got cold I had to switch to the 10% once a week and 7% on the other days. This year my skin got so dry I had to increase to a heavier moisturizer. The Bite lip mask is wonderful. I was used to using Chapstick so other lip masks may be just a good. And I found cream stick eye shadow. Why I never tried these before is beyond me. There is not going back now.
