Sounds like you really had a good strategy for your choices. Well done! I really don't understand why makers don't get on this cusp sizing problem -- I know a lot of women who have the same gripe you do!

Jenny1963- thanks for your comment- you helped me realize that those silk tees were not right for my life, as much as I'd like to be a person who didn't dribble my lunch down my shirt... back they went!

Tina & BerkelyGirl- yes the purgatory is real! - so frustrating to have "misses" XL be too small and a 1X be swimmingly too large... with a different construction. I'm looking at YOU Ralph Lauren!
Nordstrom's lovely return policy makes online shopping so much of a better option cause can order multiple sizes and easily return what doesn't fit without angst!

Lisa- so glad you found flats to work for you- they're cute!

You have some laser focus for shopping NAS this year and it's really paying off in your final kepe and return choices. And I'm with you, I struggled to find a pair of flats that worked for my feet and ended up with a non NAS shoe that worked perfectly.

Fun! I really love the Caslon asymmetrical cardigan, which you've marked as a keeper. And I got those same Cole Haan ballet flats, they are lovely, and so versatile and useful (and the NAS had them at a great price).

Great idea to buy one bra a year at the NAS to keep refreshing your stock. I'm going to adopt that habit as well.

I think a lot of us can relate to "cusp size purgatory," ha!

This line: "Also, due to existing in cusp size purgatory," so totally describes my shopping woes. Add in a sensitivity to any type of wool, including cashmere, and it gets worse. Glad you found some things that work!

Very thoughtful purchases! From my point of view, EF silks stain easily and I find them too clingy. Good that you retuned them!! I hate them:)

I too ordered way more at NAS than I could use, because I normally have a very high return rate. This year was no exception.

It sounds like you have a very good sense for what works for you and what does not, and why. I hope you enjoy your new purchases!

Will your phone be safe and secure in that Sejour pocket? And any chance that you might be sizing up in your phone in the not too distant future?

Also, Foxcroft DOES go on sale in case you want to stalk. . .Not sure where else the brand is sold, but it is NOT a Nordstrom brand.

I ordered a bunch, knowing that I'd return most of it; so this post is LONG.
My goals this year were to focus mostly on wardrobe essentials- pants with pockets, and easy polished tops for my business casual workplace, comfortable shoes for my fussy feet, and replacements for a worn out pair of jeans and 2 coats that I purged this spring.
Still trying to make up my mind on a few pieces... but overall I think the sale was really successful!

So far, I've decided to keep the zig zag cardigan, the boxy shell, and the EF merino wool pullover (LOVE the color and the drapey cut), which will fit nicely into a work capsule, and the asymmetrical long cardigan is staying with me for comfy lounging and weekend errands.

I'm wavering on the Sejour zip pocket leggings... I don't really need another pair of leggings. Unlike my other leggings, these have pockets, which makes them so much more useful at work, when I really need to have my phone with me; but the pockets are kind of awkward and the zip pulls are somewhat visible under thinner tops... Also, there's no waist closure so I have to pull them up and over my hips and bottom, which feels kind of sausagey, however they don't gape at the waist at all and once on, fit pretty well. I need to try them on styled a few more times, I think .

Keeping the olive skinny jeans and the coated SLINK black jeans, which are kind of RATE and more flattering on me than the NYDJ . All the other pants are going back.

I did not like the fabric feel of the leopard print jacket, the foxcroft gingham shirt or the caslon peplum. I'll take this as a useful confirmation that all natural fabrics are my preference going forward. Also the caslon peplum in XL was TOO voluminous - gave a definite maternity wear vibe on me.
The plaid foxcroft shirt fits well and is comfortable but the colors are NOT my colors- too soft and muted. I might have to bite the bullet and buy a full price foxcroft, since I like their fit and quality.
I'll send back all but one of the EF tees- the Merino tee is less versatile than I'd like, and the high crew neck is not a good look for me. The silk tees are nice, but I'm not so sure about how versatile hand washable tees will be for my lifestyle. Also, due to existing in cusp size purgatory, I ordered both the XL (in burgundy and the 1x (in cobalt), and can't detect any discernible difference in the sizing- the 1x has a slightly higher neckline and slightly tighter, shorter sleeves, oddly enough. I think if I keep one it will be the burgundy, since it fits into my preferred color story.

The Danskos will be a nice replacement for my current clogs (which are falling apart). With a patent finish and subtle black/gray pattern, they're a slightly dressy form of Dansko. I'm going to wear the heck out of them at work all winter

All of the shoes, aside from the dansko clogs are going back- most of them didn't fit my high volume, high arched, fairly fussy feet. The Cole Haan flats did fit, which is why Cole Haan are my go to brand for flats, but the combo of the color and the pleating made them look both awkward and matronly on me. I might look at the rack to check out their inventory in my size. .

The leather and construction of Allsaints bag is gorgeous but the mushroom is not my neutral, and the straps are an awkward length on me. Sending back.

The Gallery jacket is going back- it's nice and comfy, but the 1x is honestly, just too big on me... and if I'm going to get a casual jacket a more gear like one would be more versatile for me.

The merino cardigans are going back-great quality in both of them the sejour is too big and tentlike and the color of the halogen is too similar to that of the EF pullover. Also, i still have very wearable and similar merino cardigans from last year's sale

I also bought a Natori bra to replace a couple of VERY old and ratty bras. I've fallen into the habit of getting at least one a year at the NAS, and that helps me break my habit of holding onto bras well past their use by date.

This year I found the shopping and decision making process really useful in clarifying what I want to wear, and what I NEED to fill out my wardrobe options. I'll be able to purge some stuff that doesn't feel comfortably me anymore.
It also helped me realize that, while I've been building up an inventory of gray and navy neutrals, the colors that feel most comfortable to me are warmer- burgundy, spruce, deep olive, rust and golden mustard, so I should hold out for more of those colors in the future. Luckily, I think I'll be able to sprinkle those into my current wardrobe essentials without too much upheaval.
