I found the size chart really confusing for these pants, and was forever hesitating to pull the trigger too. If this helps: for the size 14, my waist is actually 5 inches bigger than the number on the chart, and my hips 2 inches. So I was worried that the pants wouldn't fit, but after hearing that one of Angie's clients, who is a similar size, got the 14, I felt a little more confident ordering them.
