I love all three items, sweater, sneaks and the coat! I think Angie is right that it is very flattering and with maybe a minor tweak in the waist it would be more perfect for you. I would do the sit and twist test in it, maybe in a car before tailoring.

1) it's all in your head and the coat looks more than fine, it's absolutely beautiful. I wouldn't alter at all, you'd just make it less versatile because chunky knits may not fit under after alterations.

And I've just seen this mint Stan Smith and thought of you

I'm so happy Angie thinks the coat looks great on you because as I said, I do too. That's why it took me a while to 'study' your pictures to figure out the fit problem you are describing. And I do think it is worth talking to the tailor at Nordstrom. I hope you find a happy resolution.

Thank you for your input Angie, that is quite a different perspective. I am all for items that make my waist look shorter as long as as it doesn't look like I am wearing a child's coat.

In the photos 5-8 I wearing a fitted cashmere turtleneck, and in 9-11, a medium weight fluid tunic sweater.

I haven't considered taking ti to Nordies for tailoring, but that is so obvious that I feel silly now. I will call them over the weekend and see how that works, as I have never had anything tailored there before.

Tanya, the Ted Baker top is KILLER. Sneaks too.

What are you wearing under the coat, Tanya? Don't size down on the coat. The 0 will be too small. I LOVE it on you. I am wowed. I like how it shortens your very long waist, actually. CHIC and SHARP.

I think you should take it to Nordies to be altered a little at the waist - but not as much as you are pulling it in. Just a little. The flare is a statement, and I vote stick with it.

Thank yous so much for the input, Colette, UmmLila, Brooklyn, Suz, Lisa, MsMaven, and Mochi!

Yes, I am very long waisted, and Suz, to answer your question, both of those proportions, both above and below waist are long on me. Everything on my upper body is long, including arms and neck. My arms at 5'6" are long as those of some men I know that are 6" tall (know this from the dance studio).

I do suspect that part of the problem is waist hitting me at the wrong spot, in addition to it being a bit loose. This happens to me all the time with sheath dresses. If that is the main issue, than size 0 wont help at all, the body length would be the same or smaller so the waist would hit me even higher. Though it might not look so obvious if the fit is overall snugger.

As I said, I love the coat, and really want it to work out, but even at the sale price it is very spendy for me, so I want to only keep it if the fit is at least 9 on 1-10 scale I will wait for more opinions, and maybe even take it to my tailor for opinion. Sigh...

Tanya....hang on for a sec here.

You describe yourself as long waisted. But...are you really?

I mean, are you long between bust and waist, or between waist and (ahem) crotch point?

Or both, maybe, I suppose.

Quite honestly looking at these photos it seems like your waist is not so low...but perhaps the part below that is longer proportionately. Or maybe that is just my own hypersensitivity because this is the issue for me. I have a regular to short waist, long rise, regular thigh length, shorter calf. It all equals out to more or less regular proportions with maybe slightly shorter legs -- but can still create some fitting issues.

I agree with Brooklyn--the waist fit is fine but it does seem a bit high waisted for you, a feature that is emphasized by the flare. This is a problem I am sensitive to because so many things hit me a bit too high in the waist. Otherwise it looks good. I don't think nipping in the waist will make it better.

The most important thing is how you feel in it. If you don't just love it despite minor alterations needed, I'd send it back. You do seem to have serious doubts.

Tanya, that sweater is killer beautiful on you. Absolutely stunning. Fun with the Stans, too.

For the coat, I have a feeling that Colette is right. And maybe Brooklyn, also. When I saw the coat on Colette, what I said was: Every pretty pear needs a coat like this!!! And I do think fit and flares generally work best on a figure that can fill them out a bit, if you know what I am saying.

However, it's possible that this coat would be brilliant on you in the 0 so why not keep your eye on the website in case in comes in in that size?

I think the coat might be a little high waisted for you. I have had this experience also because of a long torso. It's not so much that the hip part of the coat is too big but that it's sitting too high because of your long waist. If you love it, why not take it to a tailor to see if it could be fixed. The shoulder fit looks good. Worth pursuing because it is a great piece. Thumbs up for your other purchases.

I love that Ted Baker sweater on you and the all pink look overall. I am kind of in a similar frame of mind as Colette -- I think that the flare of the coat looks a bit too wide for you. The waist is a little less of a problem if you're going to wear a heavier sweater under it. I think you should try to scout out a size 0 in returns period if you don't want to have it tailored.

I love the Ted Baker sweater, it's so pretty on you. And the Stan Smith's are fun. I was thinking about them but I have a tough time (all in my head) with sneakers. I'm glad these are both keepers.

Regard the TT coat.
I think it looks really great on you. But you need to love the fit as much as you love the coat. I've been studying your pictures for fit advice and my conclusion is that my hips are working to my advantage (I don't think I've ever said that or even thought that before) in filling out the bottom. But I am really interested to hear what Angie and some of the experts on fit have to say. If it were me I would probably try the smaller size for comparison and then make the final decision.

Are you pinching the back in, in photo #8? The waist appears more nipped on that one. Overall, I feel like the coat fits you very well...very good looking and really great for your body shape. Unless it feels really loose and possibly drafty, I'd leave it alone. I don't think moving the buttons would be the solution...they seem kind of far apart...might mess with the line of the coat. You'd have to have the side seams taken in.

Blush out is very cute!!! I love your pink pants!!

The sweater is so pretty on you and looks like it is made for the pants you were wearing. And fun sneakers, yes! Two keepers.
I like the look of the coat on you, but I do see the improvement when you pinch the back. I kind of accept that coats with waistlines are going to add some girth to my frame, given that they are worn over other clothing, but in this case it may be a tad too much. (It really depends on your comfort level, because in the photo, I didn't see it as being big till I compared to the photo where you're holding it in.) I would take it to a tailor and see what they say about altering or moving buttons. The latter is only going to get you 3/4" at best, I imagine.

So, my NAS items arrived today.
1. (#1-2)The Ted Baker sweater is very pretty and nice quality, though definitely lightweight/transition weight, which is fine for me. I tried it on with the blush pants and shoes I happened to be wearing today, for fun blush-out, with a touch of red. A keeper unless you guys see something I don't.
2. (#3-4) I love the Stan Smith sneakers and they are very comfy. A keeper for sure.

Now for the key item, the TT coat. I love it and the quality and tailoring are absolutely divine. I don't even mind the black as it has nice texture to it. I am not sure it fits right though, and don't know if the issue is in my head or not. This is a very tailored coat with nipped in waist, which I feel is to large for me at the waist/upper hip area. The shoulder/chest area fit is OK. This is an issue I usually have with tailored dresses, but this is a first time with a coat.
In photos 5-8 I tried it on over fitted thinner cashmere turtleneck, in 9-11 over medium weight fluid sweater, the kind I would normally wear with such coat in the winter. In final photo of each of those (8 and 11) I am holding back the extra material around my waist. The coat is size 2, and I believe that it came in 0 too, but it is long gone. petite wouldn't work on me due to my long waist. Size 0 may very well be too tight around the shoulder/chest. So, what do you think:
1) Is it all in my head and the coat fits just fine
2) Should I try it on in size 0 for comparison if it comes back in stock
3) Should I alter it - I believe that moving one row of buttons an inch or so to the side would create a more nipped in look

I don't want an extremely tailored, waist super-defining fit, I already have one coat that fits like that, but I do want it to fit right.
