*Raising hand*
You are not alone.
When your waist measurement is the same as your bust and hips, and you regularly get asked if your pregnant when you haven't been for 5 years...
I've been wearing a lot of floaty top/stretchy midi skirt combo or using midi skirts to disguise the belly.

Would you consider cropped flares under those dresses? I went to Goodwill and found a couple for $10 and hacked them off myself. As long as the fading is minimal (don't want front fading to mid-calf!) it is okay if the flare starts a little low. I am also 5' 1" and long-waisted with very short legs. Tunics don't work with my proportions but somehow dresses with cropped pants do. But maybe that is also because I have have heavy muscular legs over slim ankles and the loose cropped pants obscure my legs and highlight my ankles.

I'm sure there are jeans and other bottoms out there that will fit you; you just need to kiss a lot of frogs and read a lot of reviews. Maybe start with mid-rise? Jag jeans come in Petites, and perhaps a wide stretch band like this would work for you? Jag worked over my flat seat, but I made the mistake of having the waist taken in -- which means those jeans are a struggle to pull over my hips. Oops!

I can sorta do a legging. Skinny pants make me feel like I'm being tortured.

I'm an apple and my go-to silhouette is a tunic top that hits below my hip with a skinny pant (or even a legging that has trouser features like pockets and a faux fly... which might be a comfier option if you're open to trying pants again). Can be dressed up or down depending on the pieces, and in different fabrications or colors it'll take you across seasons and weather.

Hi kwood!

When I was in a rut, I went to pinterest and visited blogs for inspiration and to get an idea of what I was drawn to style-wise. I also looked at the style help section of Angie's blog right here on the site where she talks about body shapes. I am an hour-apple, so I'm getting used to dressing the body I have now rather than the body I may have again, someday. It takes time to learn what works for your body. stick with it!

Welcome, kwood. It's sounds like you're apple shaped? Does that make sense? If so, you can begin by reading the body type dressing guidelines on the site. They aren't rules, but can provide a solid starting point.

I always thought of myself as an hourglass, but post baby I am decidedly apple, and my proportions seem way out of whack.

I am 5'1" and long waisted. (My inseam is like...23") My shoulders want to be a XS or S, but my chest is 34D. My tummy, le sigh, is around an 8/10, but my butt is fairly flat and I have thin legs.

All these fit issues combined, I have been wearing nothing but shift, swing, and smock/sack dresses. I haven't worn pants in years!

Anyone out there with a similar shape or advice for how to bust my current style rut?
