Great items. I also have a couple of aspirational dressy items in my wardrobe too as it's always wonderful to really dress up.

A dress that I have yet to wear but will do so at the next dressy event is in Finds. It's such a nice shape on me and was bought on deep discount. I should see if my best friend wants to go to the opera or ballet with me!

A lovely collection of JPW items! My JPW items are mostly sentimental items as well. The insights you shared behind why each piece sparks joy makes them extra special.

Beautiful items and wonderful stories behind them! I do love that lavender trench and drool a bit every time it comes out.

I can't help but make up outfits from people's joy capsules and now I'm imagining you at a festive summer barbecue in your ball skirt and a white tank, with your hawaiian shirt worn knotted over top. Why not??!?

Hahahaha! I thought I was looking at a post from Joy, and I wondered why Carla’s Hawaiian shirt was pictured. Did she give it to her?! It’s funny how I recognize people’s things. Your lavender coat is another item I know. I gave a version of your bag, in charcoal, to our son’s partner when she got a master’s degree.

Mmm, Carla! This is a beautiful collection! I’m especially smitten with your ball skirt—so beautiful! I hope you get to wear it lots, or as much as one can for balls.

Love your Hawaiian shirt too. I had a vintage 1940s/50s Hawaiian shirt I thrifted. Wrong colors for me but it was fun to see in my closet.

I love what you said about your ball skirt, Carla! I will never forget the photos of you in your first ball skirt when we were working out the right outfit for the occasion when you first wore it. Absolutely gorgeous on you and perfect in every way!

I love the Hawaiian shirt, too! Good value both ways! And gorgeous scarves that you will always have in your closet.

Love the stories behind your items Carla. Of course history and sentiment is another reason to find joy in an item (apart from its aesthetics). I feel similarly about some vintage jewellery I’ve bought from Etsy. I like the idea that I’m one of possibly several owners of the item. A caretaker really.

I also like what you said about your ball skirt. Having such an item can inspire you to find occasions to wear it. I enjoy the challenge of wearing a dressy item dressed down for regular wear. But it’s nice to wear them dressed up too!

Love all the back stories behind your JPW items Runcarla, little wonder that they bring you joy when wear them.

My JPW items include:

1) Lilac cashmere sweater that my son gave me at Christmas. Such a pretty colour, and it feels luxe wearing it. Easily elevates any of my jean combos.

2) Uniqlo floral midi skirt that I thrifted. Its exactly the right length, pattern and colour scheme I'd been after for so long. Reminds me of the skirts I enjoyed wearing in the past.

3) Cranberry Peacoat- Another thrifted find that fits like a glove. Love the quality of this coat, it's a lovely wool and cashmere blend that's getting harder to find these days. Love the unique colour too..

4) Blue Molten Utility Jacket- featured it in my first ever WIW here on the forum. I feel fab wearing this colour of blue. Its mostly a sunny day, transitional season type jacket, so I have rather limited opportunities to wear it often.

Fab and fun stories behind your joyful items, Carla! Extra meaningful and yes - wonderfully sentimental :)

This makes me smile!

"#6 having a ball skirt in my closet is aspirational, and just seeing it there in my closet makes me happy. Owning such a thing encourages me to actively seek occaisions when it might be worn".

Maybe I’m more sentimental than I thought? Most of my ‘high joy’ items have a story behind them!

#1 Navy Lepliage - one of the first items I asked about on this forum. After Gaylene suggested I check out B. Hemings and Co in Toronto, when next I visited the Big City. Though I bought a relatively inexpensive item from this very upscale luggage boutique, they treated me and my son (who was with me) with courtesy and respect. It is possibly one of my best ever retail experiences. The bag is getting a little worn at the corners, but I don’t think I will ever pass it on!

#2 the lavender coat has a silver lining. It was a successful online purchase made during the Covid pandemic from Hudson’s Bay Dept. Store. Bringing it up from the basement storage closet signals the start of spring.

#3 blue, brown, and gold pashmina. Picked out by DH - it goes with me on all my travels.

#4 Hermes scarf. A bucket list item gifted to me by YLF member Nemosmom. It has a wild story of provenance.

#5 thrifted Hawaiin shirt. The colour and pattern just make me happy. It does get cost-per-wear, but its joy-per-wear is higher.

#6 having a ball skirt in my closet is aspirational, and just seeing it there in my closet makes me happy. Owning such a thing encourages me to actively seek occaisions when it might be worn.

#7 MMM sandals. This was a ‘start the car’ thrift find, and one of very few designer items I own. When I tried them on and they fit - I felt like Cinderella. I’m still a little intimidated by them, and tend to ‘save’ them for special occaisions.

I hope more folks will share their joy per wear items!
