Oh thank you! I'm still not 100% sold on knitted ones. I've had trouble figuring out a color. I bought red yarn for it that looked Dark Autumn red. (DA gets some pretty intense volcanic reds.) The shade ended up being a little cooler and brighter, and didn't feel quite right for my season and wardrobe. Should have returned it but waffled and missed the return window. SO... idk. Maybe I'll tackle it later this summer, when I start thinking about autumn/winter wardrobe.

Carol, oh that’s a wonderful idea!! I agree that it would look more glam and chic with leather gloves. (Love the example you shared to boot!) That’s a good point. I was thinking along the line of knitting of these… but they are knit so it’s a different feel. Not so glam or high style like leather gloves. And the very vintage pair might be pushing the vintage theme too far…

The leather would cut the wind more that’s for sure! Knits don’t do fare well in wind unless very heavy, lined, or felted.

Thank you, Cookie!! I need to trying wearing JPW maybe a smidge more. I didn’t wear that blouse at all this winter. But it was a weird and difficult winter tbh. Life got very lifey with a family death, influenza A, our new cat nearly dying, and more.

Ket--thanks! oh, a fleece shawl-collar coat would be really cool. I do hope you make something and show us.

In terms of the mink--I also have a thing for shirts/jackets that show the wrist. In terms of warmth, your idea of knitting fingerless gloves or something is fun, but I think better for going to a club or bar. If you really want to retain the Hollywood glamour, for dressier occasions, it will have the most impact with leather/vegan leather gloves, or something similar. I would have both on hand...

(edit: I don't know, though--it looks like they have all kinds of fantastic fingerless gloves on Etsy, so maybe I was wrong about how fancy they can be...)

Hello dear Carol Gosh, thank you so, so much! Your comments really make my day! When something finds me, I just love it. Having said that, I'm terrible about buying basics such as undies and bras unless they're really pretty and lovely. Basics and casual can be tough for me...

I love the mink for just that: it feels Old Hollywood. I wore it out for New Years Eve. We had a simple family dinner out. I felt very glamorous--in my jeans--wearing it. And very, very warm! Only thing is it has bracelet length sleeves, so I really need to knit some kind of arm warmer, mitten, or other something to stop the drafts up the sleeve and add some extra warmth.

Trenches. You should try one!! With the current "old money" and 90s trends, I think they should be more abundant in retail. I never really considered them though I've always kind of wanted one. Then I ran across them last year and couldn't resist! The scuba fabric is especially very nice, kind of luxurious with lots of drape. I actually purchased a second back-up of the scuba trench. It's from Tanesha Awasthi's line "Girl With Curves". The line has been sadly discontinued. QVC was discontinuing tons of remaining stock. They may still have some in your size if you're interested!

And then... I bought 2-3 sewing patterns of similar shawl-collar coats. They're surprisingly simple patterns, especially if using a reversible fabric and skipping the lining. Seeing as I've not really sewed much yet, they probably won't be that simple for me to sew. (Ha!) But I'm definitely curious to find fabric for them. Maybe even a simple sweat or fleece fabric for super easy finishing and coziness...?? I'll have to see what I find.

Hi Ket--I just love these pieces. I also love how deliberate you are in selecting things. I am...sort of the opposite. I "catch" good "catches" I see like sushi on a revolving sushi track at those restaurants.

That mink is special and has an old Hollywood feel. One of those pieces no one would think to try, and then when they see you wearing it, they will probably want one.

The most clever, though, are the two trenches. I am never inspired to buy one, even though it's a staple. That scuba material makes it fresh and smart.

Cookie, I will try more outfits with my joy items in the future! Probably not the sheer blouses until autumn? They’re sheer but also polyester; not fun in the summer. And being so dark, they feel more cold weather to me. I did an outfit a year or two ago with the sheer black blouse here: https://youlookfab.com/welookf.....l-romantic

I also posted the outfit photos below.

Fabbers were divided about me in black. Black turns me a bit ruddy in real life , especially if it’s not a warmer or bronzed black. (Challenging to find in retail.) This blouse is more of a pure black, I.e, not warm black. The sheerness helps a lot though. I think pairing the blouse with a deep non-black neutral might be better. Maybe a deep raisin or deep forest green??

Oh thank you! I love clothes with histories or even a little story. This coat definitely has one.

Your husband sounds most lovely! And I love a piece with history like that fur coat, which I’m sure looks gorgeous on you. As Jaime says, it probably IS the best fate for secondhand fur.

Jaime, thank you for being so gracious, as you always are <3 I will enjoy it for sure.

Suz, oooo! I love what you pointed out about movement, presence and pizazz! This gives me things to think about for my style that I haven't considered before. Thank you!

Robin, I feel your sadness!! I've had plenty of rayon items do just fine with cold water wash. This jumpsuit is the first time I've ever had an issue with shrinkage--and especially this much shrinkage. It's super frustrating. I'm almost tempted to have it dry cleaned... then I worry it would even shrink from that.

J'Aileen, oh how lovely to hear that! Thank you. I feel I've become more open to color this last year or two, more so than ever before. And yet, I'm kind of feeling the pull to find more neutrals to pair with them maybe. I only have a handful of neutral bottoms and toppers. Might focus on neutrals again... We'll see! I never know what's going to find me when I'm shopping.

Kate, you gave me a good guffaw in return ha! Wince in pain is right.

Kate and Dee, I want to wear my leopard trench coat more now after all the love! Thank you!

Lisa, that's so helpful to hear how CPW didn't help and even hindered you. I have a feeling there are much stronger buying actions and habits to pay attention to for budget decisions. Honestly, the forum and all of you here have helped me more than anything. That, and just being aware of my purchases and how I feel about them over time. Also, I really prefer a larger wardrobe with more variety too! I've tried smaller wardrobes but I feel so limited. Even if I wear the same few core pieces a lot with a larger wardrobe, I like the feeling of choice whenever I desire. Anyway, I feel like we are twinning here! I will see about doing some WIW's with JPW next!

Carla, oh, I love the color of yours so much! I'm utterly sold on satin skirts now. I don't know if it's the cut, the length, the drape or what, but I love them.

Brooklyn, oh your items sound lovely!! I love velvet and silk And now that you mention it, I forgot a couple items on my list. (See finds below.) They are metallic and delicate chiffon fabric blouses. I've worn them only 1-2x/ They won't hold up to rougher wear and are so lovely I don't want them ruined.

Great pieces Ket and I can see why your JPW is high. I am tempted to get into the whole fur issue, and just deleted a long essay, but will leave it at many people feel wearing second hand/vintage fur is the best of the fur alternatives. It is an important and complicated issue. Meanwhile, I think you should wear and enjoy your precious coat.

These are beautiful Ket. My high joy but less worn items are similar - items that are a little too delicate or glamorous for everyday wear. Metallics, velvet, silk. If they spark joy when you wear them, and you have room to store them, why not.

I track my wears because I'm a nerd and I like numbers, but I do NOT use it to tell me what items to edit. In the past I used CPW to help edit and that was a massive failure. I'd end up editing out items I liked, and I would end up having to repurchase.

I've accepted that it's okay to have some items with a high CPW as long as 1) they spark joy when I do wear them and 2) I have a place to store them. I learned I prefer a larger sized wardrobe with more variety which will automatically mean that not every item I own will have a high CPW and that's ok!

You're JPW items are lovely, I look forward to seeing them in outfits. :)

What a nice variety of JPW items, especially love that leopard trench, has that va-va-voom factor.

Oh I know that pain you speak of, Ket. That gave me a good laugh, sitting here at a local coffee shop. I’m no where near as tall as you but have a long torso, and any pants shrinkage is indeed wince-inducing! Thankfully it hasn’t happened often.

Your JPW items are beautiful. I especially love the leopard trench and the satin skirts.

Slim cat, oh thank you! I really love the coat. I might try to get one more wear out of it before the warmer weather hits. My summer goal is to find a good shapely hanger and dust bag to store the coat in. It needs some proper storage to preserve it well.

Sarah, oh I'm delighted to hear this! I sometimes see the cohesiveness and then sometimes wonder if my wardrobe is all just an odd mishmash... :}

Star, I will have to look again when I pull out my summer clothing. I want to say it's viscose blend?? I know viscose and rayon can shrink (and often do), but I lost at least 1-2" in the torso length when it shrunk. To be indelicate, the shrinkage took the jumper from being bearable tiny wedgie to crotch crunching pain. Skirts. I'm not sure it can be avoided. These are polyester. I do think if I pulled them out while wet and hung them to dry I could maybe sneak by? Satin wrinkles easily, so maybe it's pointless ironing them ha!

Janet, I'm the same about wears. I don't track them, but I do have a running idea how much wear an item is getting. Only 50% of my winter tops were worn this season; I suspect I'll be doing a big weed of winter tops this spring or in the fall. Bummer on your shoes, especially being on-trend burgundy! You're tossing/keeping for all the best reasons. "No joy + no need = doesn’t belong in my closet anymore." So good! I'm saving this!

Angie, tracking wears gets exhausting. So yay for dressing for joy. Thank you so much for all the wardrobe love! And, I am 5 ft 10.5 in. (I never feel very tall until I wear heels but I guess I am.)

I'm another BIG believer in JPW and don't track my wears.

Ket, wonderful to see your amazing collection of infrequently worn HIGH JPW items! I can see you rock all of them, and know they love you right back. Soooooo you :)

Sometimes, high laundry maintenance items are well worth it.

And remind me how tall you are, sweet statuesque Ket?

Those are such great pieces. I am a big believer in JPW. I don’t track wears but I have an idea how much various things get worn.

I did some closet cleaning this morning — half a dozen pairs of shoes and boots are going, and a dozen graphic tees. That’s just what I’ve gotten done so far. Some things I encountered didn’t get worn this winter, or were worn once or twice. If I still liked them, I kept them, often because they don’t suit frequent wear but make me happy on occasion.

Other items that didn’t get worn, I examined carefully. Oddly enough, for a season in which burgundy was supposed to come back, my unworn footwear was all burgundy! Turns out two pairs are no longer comfortable, one doesn’t feel true to my style anymore, and one has always been a bit ill-fitting and every time I’ve put them on, I’ve taken them off in favor of another pair. No joy + no need = doesn’t belong in my closet anymore!
