You weren't kidding that it is international skin! It is lovely, so whatever you do is working. I think that I would be really upset if I started having acne and trouble skin at this age.....I wouldn't know what to do with it.

I have always taken pretty good care of my skin. Additionally, this year ( ok, I actually started in Dec. lol ) , I started using a 20 % vitamin C serum. I use sunscreen ever day and I am using ROC retionol at night, every night. I also got a Clarisonic because I read that once your skin is that clean the treatments soak in better.

I have also decided to change my regimen according to the season. This winter, when my skin is really dry, I use dove cold cream to wash my face. I will not do this in the summer.

Finally, I have started to religiously treat the back of my hands and forearms the way I do my face.

Mine is more pedestrian, lol, but I hope it works, even a little !

Sounds like you have a great skin care regimen. I find it frustrating to find the right products to use, but once I do, it makes a huge difference. Thanks for sharing your journey!

Thanks all. I have to say ( and hopefully this doesn't sound vain) but having grown up with completely blemish and acne free skin through my teenage years and twenties I was aghast to develop adult acne. Albeit it lasted only a season and most makeup artists/ aestheticians always tell me " I have great skin", suffice to say I, me, myself and the high magnification mirrors definitely see the pits in the very centers of my cheeks.

But for now I'm at peace with it and trying to treat it like the treasure skin really is!

Wow - your skin is so beautiful Sona! I'm so glad you found something that worked for you. I think our skin constantly changes with our age, hormones, stress levels, etc. so what works for us for a while may not work anymore. Good for you for your diligence in your journey and thanks for sharing with us!

Wow, I second Claire in saying I would not have guessed you had any problems. Your new regimen is working, it seems. My skin is too oily for much moisture or oil now, but I think someday I may come back to this post for tips.

Awesome that you use Cetaphil too, Sona.

Neutrogena body oil makes me really oily and gets over my jammies.

This is great Sona! I'd put you up there with the others that Angie interviewed. You'd never know that you had problems with your skin. Especially on your cruise, you looked so healthy and glowing. All of your hard work must have paid off!

My All around the world Skin Care Journey

I grew up having problem free glowing skin until my late twenties. Then……………
In 2009 I was overworked, overtired, depressed and overweight from the stress of working 120+ hours/week, being mommy and a full time grad student. I also lost my Dad unexpectedly. Overnight I developed acne and grey strands in my hair.I lost weight slowly with a change in lifestyle. My skin never recovered fully- few blemishes stayed on my cheeks. I felt saddened but used moisturizer only intermittently.

Then this summer my skin turned grey, more dry and sallow. My hair was falling. Turned out I was hypothyroid, B12 , vit D and iron deficient. IV iron, thyroid supplements, megadoses of vit D and B12 later my skin turned less grey. The realization dawned that I was no longer eighteen with the flawless skin. I needed to take more care of it.

I cleanse twice daily with Cetaphil, moisturize with la Roche Posay anthelios cream which is hydrating enough for my dry skin ( now available in the US). I got this tip from a dermatologist- to use Anthelios formulas because of the superpotent UVA-blocking ingredient Mexoryl and because as she said sun damage is the number one thing to protect skin from. For my dry, dry elbows, knees and ankles I have starte using Yube cream- a Japanese product that has camphor and is very good for my rough skin ( available on Sephora.com). I also followed Ines’s advice after reading Parisian chic and started using neutrogena body oil after my shower.

Since I consider my hair part of my skin care regimen: in addition to prescription dandruff shampoo, I always use mositurizing conditioner. I alo use moroccan/aragan oil on my hair- its also great on skin! I try to limit heat styling. I do color my grey hair and get highlights intermittently.

And I take my vit D, B12, B1 and thyroid meds on a regular basis now as well as drinking plenty of water and limiting caffeine.

So from France, Japan, Morocco and North America: there you have it: my international skin regimen.
