beautiful bag! enjoy it!

i'll admit, i generally don't take care of my bags, and while I don't put them on the ground in the rain, don't worry about them otherwise.

That looks like a great and very versatile bag.

I don't do anything specific to take care of my leather bags. For certain ones (softer leathers or suede, mostly), I try to avoid getting them wet but others aren't really affected by rain.

I do use my Doc Martens Wonder Balsam to touch up my bags occasionally. That stuff is amazing for all leather items!

Congratulations! It's a really nice bag. I don't do much to mine, just keep them clean with an occasional wipe-down (a damp paper towel works wonders). I don't put mine on the floor. Not at home, not in the car, and definitely not outside the house. The only exception might be under the seat on a plane, but even then I usually don't.

Suz, here in the desert we often have humidity under 10 percent. I like it but it does dry everything out.

JAileen's comment made me realize that weather affects our bags as well! Interesting thought. Where I live it is evidently humid enough that cracking is unlikely. Hmm.

Looks like a nice bag and it sounds like you really put some thought into what you wanted- excited for you! Be sure to post a follow up after you receive/use it too. I sometimes wipe my bags with a baby wipe or slightly damp cloth, but honestly I'm pretty lazy. I also try not to put it on the floor (sometimes hard depending where you are). I like Aida's routine of a fall weatherproofing spray. I think I will need to start that.

Pretty bag! I have had some leather bags for over 30 years. I use Lexol leather conditioner. It's good for mild dryness.

I have old Coach bags which are actually washable by hand. When I do that, I put a ton of conditioner on them as they're drying, and then finish with BlackRocks LeatherNRich.

Really nice bag and color.
Though I'm going to second what smittie said. No placing on ground.
Even though my satchel has whatdoyoucallit at bottom, I found that somehow the angles of bag touched the ground and the piping got scuffed irreparably.
Be warned.

I use water proofing spray early each fall (and sometimes a second coat in late winter since Spring here is also very wet) -- shoes and bags. Every other year or so, if needed, I'll condition though most of my leathers haven't need it (not at all dry in the PNW). Enjoy your new bag, looks lovely!

EDIT: I have taken my very light leather bags (i.e. the white ones) to be professionally cleaned a couple times.

great bag! Seems like a really useful shape and size, and the colour is good for both summer and fall. Nice shopping!

The thing I do for my leather bags is to not place them on the ground, if possible. For my satchel, I try to keep the zipper closed because the bag's structure seems to be better maintained that way. It doesn't look like you need to worry about that with your tote.

I haven't bothered with leather conditioning.

Congratulations!!!!!!! I can't imagine you would be thrilled for a long, long time to come.

I personally condition mine once a year with a product I bought at my local shoe repair shop. That is all the upkeep I do and I have had some purses since 1992.

Congratulations! I think you'll find that the leather wears very well compared to most synthetics. (With some exceptions both ways of course).

I don't really do anything in particular to care for my leather bags. I try not to let them get rained on. I have some leather cleaning and conditioning stuff for my jackets but I've never actually used it on my bags.

I just purchased my first leather handbag. All my life, I've bought synthetics, and they fall apart after about a year. I hate how the straps especially get dry and scratchy where the coating has worn off.

The leather bag I bought was a small tote, because my current bag (which is wearing out) is almost the exact same size, and I knew that size would work for me. I still plan to buy a smaller satchel as per my recent thread on styles of handbags.

It was expensive, but Macy's had 20% off recently, and from what I hear, leather handbags are worth the expense.

How do all of you care for your leather handbags?
