I think I know what you mean Suntiger...that is a good length!

Yes The Cat - they are a bit tricky to find. There are lots of really boxy tops here at the moment which I like in theory - but they don't really sut me at all. They are also hard to layer over.

I understand what you mean, and I have and wear a few similar tops, which I value as favourites, too, for the same reasons as those you've mentioned. Unfortunately, such tops can be difficult to find.

Love your outfits! The kind of top i wish I could find are sleeveless, a bit longer than waist length, have vertical seaming similar to a corset, but pull on. I like them with flowy maxi skirts.

StagF - that's a nice top - I like the pattern and the design.

Lyn- tucking is a challenge that many of us have (too much fabric, not enough fabric, slips out during the day, can add bulk etc..) Hope a few more of the tops come available for you.

Marlene - that's a good question - I have actually found all these tops in store.

Star - yes perfect for short waists!!

Synne - yes absolutely. The rust one is more of a statement but I don't find it hard to wear as I like it with navy, denim and black - it needs a high waisted bottom as it is a bit shorter in the front.

Brooklyn - you look wonderful in your tanks and tees. And knotting is a good idea too. I have one plain black tee that I really like the shape of - it's a shame when the design is not continued!!

Bijou - my rust one was a bit too hot yesterday in 30 degrees!! The black and navy are both good in 30 degrees, the rust and beige will come into their own in the transitional seasons, and work fine often in winter with a jacket over the top. Love your light breezy blouses!!

Thanks Angie!

Thanks Suz - there are a variety of tops that can work this way. Love the blue and white Hudson Bay one of yours - such a good print.

Thank you Catherine:)

Bonnie - they can be hard to find I agree. You have a nice collection.

LisaP - thanks. I agree - it's a really fine line. I love my blue one - I would duplicate but the only other colour didn't appeal. I wish it was available in olive or even a pale blue....

RobinF - I tuck some tops, or semi tuck, but I don't love the extra fabric, and I am someone who can make a tucked top look unkempt... and tucking and a bust can be off with a higher rise can't it!!

Janet - I can find welted tops ride up at the back too (the black one does a bit) - and I have been keeping an eye open for one that ties in the front too.

I love that blue top especially but those are all great and look terrific on you.

I have some smooth peplums that fulfil a similar function -- there's waist definition but no tucking. Plus a few simple shorter tops that don't really define the waist but stop in the right place and don't need tucking. And also some welted tops that are short enough to leave untucked. And a few hi-low tops that can be left untucked as well. Mostly, though, I tend to semi-tuck.

I also do what Brooklyn does and side knot some longer tees.

I'm with you on these tops Sally. Most basic ts and tanks are far too long on me, yet I don't want a cropped look either. Welted or tie front tops are hard to find in fabrics and colours that I like - they can skew the wrong way pretty easily. Every time I see your ReCreate top I want it ;)

I totally agree, that is my favorite style as well and very hard to find. I only tuck if it is under something (and even then it annoys me), being short and busty a regular tuck isn't my best look. I have a few tops that tie at the waist and that works also but isn't as polished looking. Love your top with the side gather.

Short torso here and I almost never tuck tops, so I can relate — welted bottoms can be problematic too, though (they tend to ride up on me). I’m always evaluating tops for their lengths. I have been altering tops to shorter lengths to help alleviate this problem. I also like tie-front tops in the summer for this reason — the fit and length can be subtly adjusted with the tie.

These look great Sally. I like the ReCreate one in particular, it has a bit of an avant- garde vibe.

I do wear mostly tees in Summer. I have some cropped high neck tees that don’t need tucking. Mine are from Seed. It’s been a repeat style for a few years but unfortunately they did not repeat it this year. Disappointed. I also have several semi fitted tank tops that can be scrunched up around the waist. With my old long tees (that I used to wear with skinnies) I’m having some success with tying a knot at the waist or side and then tucking the knot under for a more cropped effect.

Sal I like tops that don't need to be tucked, especially in hot summer weather when it is cooler to leave tops untucked. Two that I have been wearing often this summer are in finds. For me, knitted tops are too warm for summer (we are having lots of days over 40C), so airy cotton is my fabric of choice.

I agree that it is important to grab these elusive tops when you find them despite self imposed shopping bans.

Yes, I also like these welted tops. Not as waist emphasizing as a tuck but more than a non-welted top. I think mine are sweaters but I would be open to something in a summer weight also. And great outfits by the way - you wear culotte styles beautifully and the last skirt if excellent on you also.

Over the last couple of years I have added a few tops that have become real workhorses because:

- they don't need tucking because they have a welt or are designed to sit on the waist or high hip
- they are more elevated than a tee shirt but less fussy than collared shirts
- they layer under blazers or jackets
- they stand alone well

I was on a shopping ban for January but saw another one - a linen knit - and decided it was worth the splurge.

I have other tops that I don't always tuck, but I do have a real fondness for these tops that are so simple to wear. Perfect for people who are short waisted like me, or who like some waist definition without boxiness.

Do you have any of these sorts of tops?

(just adding photos)
