Love product recommendations!

Kari, where are you buying Skleer?

I love this gel for my curly hair:

https://curlsmith.com/products.....9864043614

It has a strong hold that lasts for days! I recently went on a trip and did not add any additional product to my hair for 6 days and it still looked great! I will add a pic below of the 6th morning.

I think you can buy it at Ulta as well, but I like how the Curlsmith site lets you buy trial sizes of their products.

Sterling, I'm glad the Hi Bar is working out for you!

nemosmom and elpgal, I use two different SPF products, one from Andalou Naturals and one from Suntegrity. The Andalou product is sooo much less expensive and doesn't irritate my skin; I've been using it for years. The Suntegrity seems to have slightly better staying power in hot/humid weather (but not as good as a sport sunscreen), so I use that one in the summer and the Andalou the rest of the year. I love that the Suntegrity gives my skin a really nice finish without having any pigment added to it.

lisa p, skincare is such a minefield of expensive products that do nothing! I went through a phase of trying Kiehl's products a few years ago because a family member was raving about them. Everything I tried made my skin worse, not better, and it stands out in my mind as one of the worst orders I ever placed.

I'll be curious to see how Glossier grows in the future. I think they're very popular with the Millennial crowd because they're marketing is all about minimizing the number of products you need. Make-up for people who don't wear make-up, etc. Kind of the Everlane of cosmetics. The Futuredew is the first thing I've tried from them that I really love.

I admit I've never tried Lush's shampoos because IIRC they all contain sodium lauryl sulfate, which I try to avoid as it strips too much oil out of my hair and scalp and I get caught in a dry/oily pendulum swing. Crumbly bits at the end would bother me too!

Style Fan, I'm very curious about that La Roche Posay mascara! Pretty much every eye makeup makes my eyes itch, and some trigger eczema on my eyelids, so I don't use anything on my eyes except when I'm acting. I'd love to find something great.

Kari, I'm definitely going to try the squalene cleanser the next time I place an Ordinary order.

notsaf, I'm pretty tempted to try some other Kosas products this year. The cream bronzers/blushes and tinted oil both look great. They also make a luxurious looking lip balm that I'd love to try. :)

SarahD8, I've looked at that RMS concealer (so many shades!) and have been hesitant because it's coconut oil based (I think). I have a hard time with coconut oil on my face, but no problem using it on the rest of my body. I'm not using any concealers right now, so have no recommendations. The last one I bought was from Mineral Fusion and it seemed to work fine, not quite as much staying power as I'd like but the two shades made it pretty easy to get a good match. I remember it costing about half of what it does now, but that was probably four or five years ago. :)

Bought and now tried the HI Bar Volumizing Shampoo. I love the smell. It lathers GREAT. It does not seem to weigh my baby fine hair down either. I'll have to experiment with it a bit more before I can offer a final judgment.

I use Aveeno foaming wash, Cerave lotion, with a layer of .05% retinol at night. My sunscreen started to break me out last year (after using it for at least 4 years without issue- weird), so I'm on the hunt - what do you use for SPF??

Now, if my holy grail of concealer would appear, I would be set!

Another shampoo bar I’ll plug for, which does NOT fall apart at the end (as I’ve had happen with Lush), is from this awesome independent goat farm that I love:

http://hairyfarmpitgirls.com/p...../hairsoap/

For extra hilarity, check out their Facebook page where they share stories about goat breeding on their small farm. Their goat names are also amazing. (Vincent Van Goat, Michelle Obaaaama...)

Ooh - a post I can get into! I started buying bar shampoo last year and even got my daughter and her long hair hooked on it too. SO much less waste and space taken. My only quibble was having it disintegrate into a splintery mess toward the end and being washed down the drain....but to not have to buy plastic containers is worth the bit of waste or product that occurs. I buy it at my hair salon, or at Lush.

I've heard good things about that Glossier product too, but have had trouble getting the website to process my Canadian shipping address. Hopefully one day soon they'll be more global.

I'm not sure I've ever seen Kosas , but I'll take a look on line. I am eternally looking for just the right lipstick - and probably will be until the day before I die:)

Personally, I gave Rodan & Fields a very expensive and thorough try last year (about 6-7 months worth and repeated ordering) and finally dropped the line. It did not make one iota of a difference to my skin. Nada.Zip. And it's formulated such that you can easily go through a lot of product in a short time. Their liquid foundation makeup is nice, and there was nothing at all wrong with it, but picking a shade without testing it first was tricky and also not cost effective ( I ended up buying two bottles because of it). Again, $$ product, but I prefer other brands.

What I did love last year? Armani foundation - $$ but lovely to work with. And, surprisingly ......Maskcara makeup! Yes, it's an instagram /pyramid /whatever brand based in the US but the products are very, very effective and easy to work with. I am annoyed at having to order makeup on line and wait for it, and it strikes me as slightly overpriced by the time it's converted to Cdn $, but I still like it and will replace as I work through individual colours.

I've just been using Paul Mitchell shampoo 3 and conditioner. DH got me started on that. The shampoo is supposed to help with hard water and chlorine.
Trader Joes has a nice rose facial oil I started using, since our winters are so dry. Seems to make the lines fade a bit!

And along with the big lot of magpie makeup, I changed to oil based foundation for winter. All Natural Face in "brandied peaches". It looks deep brown in the bottle but blends in perfectly and doesn't cause breakouts. Will switch back to the powder when it gets humid again though.

Thanks for the reviews. I have been thinking about trying Kosas lip products. Also, it would be great to find a shampoo and conditioner in a bar form. I will look into the products you have reviewed. I wash my hair about twice a week.
My favourite beauty purchase for 2019 was LaRoche Posay mascara. It washes off easily and does not irritate my eyes. It does not give me the va voom look of Monsieur Big Lancome mascara but I found that one was too irritating for me. I have extremely blonde eyelashes and they disappear without help. They are a reasonable length and volume but zero colour. I use to have them tinted but that started irritating me.

I didn’t make any big changes to my skin- and hair-care routines in 2019, but I like to keep a record of standout, new-to-me products. These are all products I've already repurchased or can see myself buying again when I run out.

Hi Bar shampoos and conditioners: these are the best bar-form hair products I’ve tried, and I’ve tried a bunch. I’ve been using Liggett’s tea tree bar shampoo for years because it’s locally made for me, easy to find and relatively cheap. But my hair gets desperately dry in the winter these days so I’ve been looking high and low for a bar conditioner. I started using the “Maintain” formula, both shampoo and conditioner, in November and love how glossy and manageable it makes my hair (I shampoo and condition about twice a week). I have the Moisture formula on order to get me through the rest of the heating season and will probably try the Volume formula in the summer. The trickiest part is remembering which one is the shampoo and which one is the conditioner, especially when you’re just waking up and it’s dark out.

Kosas lipstick: my only new lip colour purchase of 2019 was Kosas Undone, which Kosas describes as a “full-coverage, high-impact neutral” and a “warm balanced toasted pink” which I’d say are quite accurate descriptions. It’s a great neutral for me, more pigment than nude/MLBB, pretty good staying power, and doesn’t dry my lips out too much or feather into cracks. Extremely versatile -- I smudge it on lightly for day use or apply a full layer for evening. I’m big into lip colours as cheek colours and this one is perfect as a blush stand-in. I'll be ordering Fringe, a brick red, for 2020.

Glossier Futuredew: I thought this might be gimmicky but I tried it anyway and now I’m sold. It’s an “oil serum hybrid” designed to be applied as a last layer. My current morning routine is: rose hydrosol, moisturizer (alternate between $$ Avène and cheapo Aveeno baby lotion), sheer-tinted zinc SPF 30, and then this stuff. I have to be careful to let the previous layer dry before applying, and it can be a bit sticky at first, but it absorbs nicely within about 30 minutes and leaves my skin velvety and "soft-focus" and does a good job warding off tightness. It balances out any chalkiness the zinc might leave by the end of the day and I pretty much don’t bother with any make-up or concealer anymore. I've been looking for a squalane product I actually like for a long time, and this is the first one that's made any kind of notable difference on my skin.

Wild Rose Herbs Nihilist lip balm: creamy, unflavored lip balm with the perfect texture. I find lip balms with scent/flavor/colour don’t work for me at all and some of them make my lips worse. I apply this balm every morning after I shower and again before I go to bed (and usually when getting into the car or going outdoors too), and it really helps fend off dry, cracked lips, my number one nemesis!

My only other update of interest is that I'm taking a break from topical hyaluronic acid and using supplemental HA instead. My skin seems to be doing fine with this arrangement.

Curious to hear what others have been trying and liking lately!
