No solutions. . . just understanding. I am becoming a bit eyebrow obsessed. Trying to grow them in but keeping a nice shape at the same time has me judging one hair or two at a time lol. Sigh. And I get those terrible red bumps from tweezing sometimes. Worse than a bald spot, by far!

I do think you are lucky in that there are so many products for brow grooming and so many tools available to define, reshape, and create the brow of your dreams. It sounds like things are already better Una, but if you need more help, just walk into any Sephora, and there are whole sections devoted to creating perfect brows: there is hope! Even if you don't have access to one you could make it first stop at Sundance.

Una, lucky you having thick brows! I hope you can cope until they're even again, which I'm sure they'll be in no time. Mine were never thick and, after being over-plucked in the 70's, I've been resigned to filling them in for the rest of my life. (I use Clinique brow powder.) Tomorrow I'm going to buy some castor oil. Thanks, DonnaF...there may be hope for me yet!

A bit of castor oil dabbed on can enable eyebrow hair to grow back -- even brow hair that hasn't grown for decades! I learned this from Makeup Alley. I got lazy so I didn't continue, but it really works. I hate blurry eyes, so I didn't follow through on the lashes.

I second what Gaylene said about Mac/Maybelline. As well as using a brush to remove harsh lines. My main advice, apart from that, after having a lifetime of invisible white brows, is to put them on with a full-face 5x magnifying glass. You can see better with a 10x glass but you can only do one side at a time so they might end up uneven. With the 5x, you can see your whole face and do a little at a time to track the progress and make sure you're getting it even.

My other advice is not to put them on with any sort of moisturizer. The brows will wipe off/smear if just a little bit touched with sunglasses, etc. I put the brows on first then moisturize carefully around them. I feel this holds for any eye make-up, a slick moisturizer not only gets in your eyes but messes up make-up. I save the deep moisturizing of my eye area for night.

Una, there's a product called L'Oreal Infalible eye and brow liner that I like so much more than any brow pencil. It comes in a little jar with a tiny brush. It can make very thin life-like lines that do not smudge AT ALL. My brows stopped growing in (except for the very random stray) in my mid 40s. Latisse didn't help.

Thanks ladies! I am less frantic today, after attempting some fixing with a brow pencil. I have thick unruly brows and they are still thick, just uneven. I've taken some selfies and it's not quite as noticeable as I thought (once I've used the brow pencil). Just that the last time was so even and flattering, and this is more like something I would have done to myself.

I only JUST started doing anything to my brows, on Sona's recommendation, as I am very attached to them (hee). So this was a bit hair-raising, so to speak. In the future I will stick with my regular beautician. I appreciate you all talking me down....

I don't do anything to mine besides pluck the stray hairs. My brows are a bit unruly (somewhat asymmetrical too), but also kind of sparse (and I also have a pseudo-bald spot where the hairs suddenly change direction on one of them) so I've always been afraid of over plucking them and having them vanish on me. (My mom has super thin and sparse brows so it's a valid concern! On a related note, I never pencil my brows because I think it makes me look disconcertingly like my mom!) Anyway, I have gotten used to the asymmetry and the non-ideal shape and I don't really think anyone notices. In reference to your comment on my WIW, that's another thing that specs hide!

Anyway, I think if I were you I would be wary of removing even more to fix them. (But maybe that is just my neurosis talking.) I think I'd just pencil them in until they grew back.

Also, I have been waxing my legs for years and I am still waiting for the hair to stop growing back, LOL.

I agree that they should grow back, albeit probably slowly. An eyebrow pencil will help in the meantime, and no one will be the wiser.

When I was young, I had to do some serious plucking to eliminate unibrow. Over the years, those brow hairs have stopped growing back in, except for an occasional random straggler. So while it's true that eventually brows stop growing back in, I think it takes a lot more than one errant session to make that happen.

Don't worry, your brows will grow back. It's years of repeated plucking that eventually destroys them. One goof-up will not a disappearing eyebrow make. ;-)

Mind you, I have very thick brown hair on my head, and pale blond eyebrows that have definitely thinned over the years. So while I sort of agree with what Suz says, I think that everybody is different. I haven't over plucked. I've never been to a salon to have them shaped. I don't know why mine are more sparse than they were -- I've got thick blond hair all over my body, for pete's sake! -- but I do know that as I age they are less defined than they used to be. *shrug*

It will be okay. They will be able to help at the salon. A brow pencil is not the end of the world and doesn't have to look hideously unnatural. I am like Greyscale -- very pale and light of brow, so I do a little coloration of mine and it works fine. And yours will grow back. I think the whole re-growth thing is a partial truth, partial myth. It is true for people whose hair is otherwise thin and doesn't grow well/or who have over plucked a lot. For those of us with thick hair it is another story. I do think that brows grow a little more slowly than the rest of our hair -- of course we don't tend to pull the rest of our hair out at its roots, hehe.

Ha, my recent makeup revelation was an eyebrow pencil and a quick lesson from a MAC salesperson on how to use it. The MAC (LIngering) pencil is pricey but I found the Maybelline New York Define-A-Brow (Medium Brown) to be just as good. It took a bit of practice, and a good spiral brow brush, to get it looking natural, but now I couldn't do without it to fill-in and even out my brows. And I am most definitely a minimal make-up person.

Yes, fill them in temporarily. Few women have even eyebrows in the first place. And if you look at Michelle Obama, Marilyn Monroe and Audrey Hepburn, all they seem to have is "fill in"...

A could of years ago, I developed a "bald spot" on one of my brows ( they aren't even anyway), probably from the meds. I tried this cheapie pencil/highlighter, that I fell in love with and it is really easy if you are not doing the whole brow. I am sure that your salon lady can give you tips.

Ooh, I have no useful advice, only sympathy. The only person who does my eyebrows is me, and I don't go too crazy on them anymore.

The only other person who ever did my brows, oddly enough, was an ex-boyfriend. He was a photographer who worked with a lot of stylists and models and knew what he was doing. I learned a lot from him!

Ack, I'm sorry to hear! Ever since I asked first my mom to pluck my brows (and she gave me a Very Surprised Doll look... with the arch in the completely wrong spot), I have not let anyone else touch them.

If the problem is that one is too arched, it might be better to make do with brow liner on the bare side until it can grow back. Maybe even get some of that re-growth stuff. IME it is harder to regrow. If you deepen the other arch to match, you might end up with a permanently deep arch in both if one side doesn't regrow all the way.

A little brow shadow might be in order for a while until they even out. This is part of the reason I've never had a professional do mine. I pluck mine and trim them myself. I've had so many friends end up with brows that were far too thin, and the older we get, the less dependably they grow back! I am sure your regular person can not only help, but could guide you if you want them both to look like the heavier one instead of the more trimmed one!

I started using a stiff angle brush with wax and powder a while ago. I like the extra definition!
