Casual - not dressy.  They are super high waisted with a tapered lantern shape to the leg.  This silhouette is perfect for where I want to go with my style ATM.   Because of the long rise and elastic waist, they may accentuate a belly pooch.  I think I can pair them with all the things I wore with the OTF, but they will not cross over to my dressy capsule the same way.  But, I’m not going anywhere ATM anyway. I think essentials can be in any neutral that works for you and serves as a base for plenty of other outfits.  they way you describe how you wear your tan puffer, completer sounds like the correct clssification. No statements really required, but I was bored enough to order some striped socks. For walks outside - long puffer in olive, one of my "neutral colours" of choice. I generally like statement scarves and have a couple. I can make an outfit with only statements or with only essentials, however I have to be in a very specific mood to do all essentials. May I pick your knowledgeable brain?  I am still not sure if my burgundy cords and my Eggplant Puffer coat are essentials but I wear them every week in winter for months on end....  I tend to think of essentials as certain items regardless of color, ie. when my burgundy cords wear out I will have to replace them with another pair of cords, but not necessarily burgundy or straight.  Where am I going wrong with my thinking? I did add a new pair of (black) jeans. Accidental purchase - I thought they  were dark wash blue!   I can create complete outfits without essentials, but it can be ALGO so more often an essential can be found anchoring a look.  I can also create an entire look with essentials.  It can be quietly handsome, but doesn’t spark joy for me the way a more richly colourful look does.
