That's a cool place to be. I feel I'm in a similar place - happy with what I have. And I do have to work a bit to just enjoy it and to stop wasting time in shops, looking for something new just for the sake of it.

Una, if I find myself bored with skinnies I may go back to those plaid pants in January, especially if LLBean has a sale. I loved them that much and I agree with you about the new silhouette. But I just don't feel the burning need to own them right now. So they are sitting in a mental "maybe" bucket. You never know.

Viva, I'm in a similar place - not feeling any burning need to acquire anything, and thinking more about gifts I need to give! Re: the plaid pants, I am so sorry they didn't work for you in the end. I did wear mine yesterday and found the slushy mess of our parking lot to be hard to navigate. Didn't get too messy but not pleasant. I think I'm just going to tuck into boots for the walk to work because I love them so much and the change of silhouette and footwear does my soul good.

It's really cool to see so many people starting to feel satisfied with thier wardrobes. What was it about last year that had us all spending so profusly? Was it the shift to more fluid fits? Or just the stage that the forum users are at when they find the forum useful and post a lot?

I know I'm also feeling happier when I look at my clothes. I still do have a "what do I wear" feeling some mornings, but I think it's more about remembering what I've learned about silhouettes, and that not every thing goes with everything. But hopefully everything goes with something!

I still have a few things on my wish list:
Medium weight casual black sweater
Black tunic sweater (along the lines of the Joie)
Fluid white top (or two) to wear with b/f cardigans.

Next up... to see what kind of a winter Mother Nature throws this way, and how it changes everything

Great insight here and it makes sense that you feel content - you have some wonderful wardrobe items that look great on you.

I'm still replacing a few everyday things to be more in line with a fluid fit - I didn't realize that most of my fall/winter knits and tees were going to feel too fitted until I started wearing them again this year. Well, part of me thought I'd layer more under jackets but I'm finding that to feel cumbersome and prefer wearing just one piece on top right now unless I'm going outdoors and wearing a jacket/coat.

I think you made a wise choice on the plaid pants. As fun as they were, if they don't really fit into your lifestyle, why have them hanging in the closet?

Oh Vivian you are a wise one. Nice to be in such a place; to have all holes filled and be content. You have a wonderful wardrobe that is wonderfully YOU. Great feeling. Wow, what restraint on the plaid pants - they looked fab on you. I hear you on the skinny thing though, that seems to be the only silhouette I'm wearing this fall!

Suz and Janet: I think you have a point about serial monogamy, for sure. I also think that for me, 2014 was a year of (mostly) thoughtful updating. With YLF's help, I got rid of lots of old shoes and outdated BR trousers and other things that were just hanging around -- things that went straight to Goodwill, not consignment. I edited my closet way back and filled in with solid purchases that made sense for my style (again, in most cases). The result was an overall smaller but better wardrobe and one that has a lot of potential within it.

It's interesting to look back, though. January 2014 was my biggest purchase month of the year! And there is just no way I am going to duplicate that. At this point, anyway, it looks like 2015 could be a much lighter fashion spending year, and as DEB suggested, I could divert some clothing dollars to travel and living.

But just to be sure, I am going to post this note in plain sight (thank you, Janet): "Don't overfill my closet with things I'll tire of in a year."

I'm like that too, Suz. I'm trying to be careful of this serial monogamy tendency, moving forward. I need to stop myself once I buy one item in a particular trend, so I don't overfill my closet with things I'll tire of in a year. I really need to curb my tendency to buy ALL THE THINGS!

It's great to be in a place of closet nirvana.

I think if I were able to, I would do all my shopping seasonally, and at the start of the season, and then be done with all shopping until the next season. I am sort of a serial monogamist in my passions. I will get all obsessed with one thing, only to turn to the next when the obsession runs dry. I wonder if something similar is true for you?

I'm on the same page Viva. This week on the forum there was a post on our style goals for 2015 and the best I could come up with was a black coat upgrade next Southern Hemisphere winter and a few new workout pants. Otherwise, I'm wearing and not buying. I'd rather put my money toward travel and lifestyle and other joys of life pro tem.

Of course, I've just spent three weeks in grungy clothes at the ranch, so I'm excited to just dig back into my fab closet at home.

Good for you for recognizing that it's okay to step back from buying for awhile! I've been trying for the past couple days to figure out what's on my 2015 list. All I can come up with is fluid white tees in various sleeve lengths. I'm sure more wants will pop up, but I'm planning to enjoy the lack of wantsies for as long as it lasts.

Isn't it just nice when that sense of relief and peace sets in? I think I know how you are feeling. I'm done with clothes for now too and am tired of always striving for something better. Maybe it's the holidays too - that time where we are reminded to get over ourselves and focus on things that bring more reward to others.

I'm a firm believer that our sartorial angst is often /usually representative of something else altogether. Creating needs, filling voids that aren't there - etc.

I hope your family situation sorts itself out, and that you go through the holidays in your usual fab style. You have been a role model for me since I joined this forum, and I value your ideas and insights.

I mentioned in Lisap's post about her eyelashes that right now, my fashion wish list for 2015 is completely empty. I'm sure something will move me at some point, but it's really strange. Right now, there is no new shape I want to try. No item I am lusting after. I am usually inundating DH with Christmas ideas, or hounding him for that one thing, but not this year. I really don't have any burning wardrobe needs or
desires. I don't mean to suggest that I am the girl who has everything -- I definitely do not. I just mean that right now, I feel
contented. I have plenty to work with, and I want to continue trying to work creatively with what I have. I really don't want to bring in any more unless it really really moves me. I think this might be why I returned so much last month and felt so badly about it -- I was either trying to create a need that wasn't there, or I was trying to fill another need with clothing. (aha! Light bulb moment!) The fact is, when it comes to clothing, things are in good shape.

I started the fall/winter season with three main needs: more knitwear, a new coat, and a pair of stylish boots for wintry weather (because last year's La Canadienne Sara's had to go). I found several sweaters, 2 coats, and a pair of Cole Haan boots (not motos, but still great (and at a great Cyber Monday price).

I did make a couple of wrong decisions. I should not have bought the Everybody "haberdashery" booties on my Seatlle trip with my friend, because I am just not reaching for them at all. I think I have worn them twice and am considering consigning them. And I returned the LL Bean plaid pants! I didn't want to admit that here ... I loved them and was pretty sure the next size was going to fit perfectly, but then it snowed, and I really wondered how often I would wear such a wide leg in bad weather. So back they went. I did, however, buy a new pair of JCrew toothpicks on sale -- those I know I will wear through the winter tucked into snowboots, and then in the spring and summer as well. They just made more sense.

Anyway, I spend a lot of time moaning on this forum, but this time I wanted to say that I feel pretty good about the state of things fashion-wise, which is nice. I had a weird day emotionally (we have a few family issues going on), but when DD came downstairs this morning, she said, "Mom, you look fantastic! That is a great outfit."

So maybe I can relax about my style and put some more energy into the home front for a while. :)
