Oooh that messenger bag/backpack looks awesome.

I have found inexpensive costume jewellery at places like Target and Sears (lots at Sears) and the other shops I go to for clothes. Are my standards too low?

Too bad about the booties! But keep checking their site in case someone returns a pair in your size. I wonder if you called the Kohl's number if they could search their stores, in case their stores have inventory that isn't included online?

About the jewelry...if you're thinking about buying a different style of jewelry from what you already own, it might be worth a try. It may be the style of jewelry that's holding you back. I'm not a big jewelry person, but every now and then I will get inspired. So I'm glad I have some.

How funny - I got one of their catalogs this past week. I've never bought anything from them. I was impressed with some of their construction features on jackets to allow for fuller arm movement.

Ohmygosh, yes; Duluth has some luscious leather bags. At least if I bought one of those (as opposed to some department store designer name) I'd know the quality would be worth the price. I've been eyeing a leather tote at LL Bean that's along the same lines.

Well, yes, it costs more than an outfit, but if I got this in the dark red, I would hold it in my lap and pet it, and probably talk to it:
http://women.duluthtrading.com.....61755.aspx
So you added that to my wishlist...
For me, I want a kind of "handmade, textured" look, but I want versatile clothing, so I have been working on finding jewelry and scarves that can express that. Shorts and a t-shirt and a very "me" necklace ( from Etsy). I have gone from no jewelry to sometimes and it took time to adjust. When people notice it and comment, it spooks introverted me, but I'm getting there.

How odd; the link doesn't work for me now either. Maybe this one will:
http://women.duluthtrading.com.....21400.aspx
Shockingly, the YLF bookmarklet doesn't work for the noted fashion website Duluth Trading ;)
I've bought a pair of jeans from Duluth, which are awesome and sturdy, and some of their wicking underwear, which work great, even though they aren't the most fashion forward items ever. Both my parents and brother (he's a construction foreman) buy stuff from them all the time. I really want to try some of their tees, especially since they brag about the longer length and that's always an issue w/ me and my long torso. And their curvy shape pants & jeans really are curvy - too often women's workwear is a scaled-down version of men's, which works fine if you're a rectangle but not so much if you're not.

The fairly high cost of costume jewelry gives me pause too. Even at the home consignment store near us that also does vintage jewelry and little collectibles, it's pretty pricey. I feel about jewelry like I do about nice name-brand or leather bags - I see the appeal but the cost is so much more than clothes per volume that it's hard for me to get enthusiastic. Let's see, I could buy one nice bag or necklace, or I could literally find 5 whole outfits including shoes at the thrift store, hmmmm...

I'm so sorry about the ankle boots! I'm always such a perfectionist trying to find additional items to make the shipping free (I don't know why--I always return the lot of it). I didn't know that could happen.

Your link doesn't work, but it's got a funny message. Cute! I was just visiting my folks in North Carolina and they had a Duluth catalog. I had fun paging through it. That stuff looks good, but it's not cheap. I'm sure it wears like iron though.

I am in the same boat as you with jewelry. Some people make it so much of their style--it really make a difference--but I don't know if I'm one of those people. And then there's the fact that I would begrudge part of my budget going to costume jewelry, that stuff isn't cheap, either, lol! Costume jewelry can cost hundreds of dollars (I guess I've been under a rock because that surprised me). I guess you can always try it on and see if it's "you". I wonder if you have to wear it awhile to figure it out. My first reaction is always, "nope".

First off, I just lost out on a perfect pair of cognac ankle boots at Kohls.com because they sold out while I was looking for stuff I could add to my order to get free shipping. Argh! (I guess I should do less complaining about the Nordstrom Rack website - at least they reserve the items for you, even if it is just for an hour.)

Anyway, happier thoughts. I don't need jeans for this fall, far from it. I don't need many tops, and I don't think I need any sweaters. I don't need ballet flats, although I'd love to find a pair of oxfords, and several of my boots and booties could use replacement. I think I've got some holes in (outdoor) jackets. I'm eyeing the slim cargo pants from Duluth for a 'like jeans but still a bit more interesting' option. http://women.duluthtrading.com.....ants-21400.

I posted a few weeks ago about perhaps trying some more substantial jewelry. I'm still ambivalent about that and whether it fits my style/personality. It's hard to justify spending any money on jewelry when I so rarely wear what I already own.

I've got a writers' conference and several other short trips planned, including a friend's wedding in Vegas, so I'll need to do some capsule planning for that.
