I definitely recommend you start longer - especially if you have thin hair. I only went that short out of necessity, I would definitely start with the longest length you have available. 24 mm is really short! The clippers I bought have 44mm as the longest setting. One thing to be aware of - it's really difficult to do any kind of variation in length without it looking strange. If you want the sides and back shorter, only go a little bit shorter than the top.
