Great advice!! In my ongoing closet purge, I first tossed anything that truly didn't fit. or was stained, or in poor condition.

Then I mentally separated the rest of my clothes into the things I wanted to keep, the ones I needed to replace (I toss as I replace them) and the orphans - the things that fit, but I don't know if they work for me or what to wear them with. Before tossing the orphans I ask the wonderful YLF ladies if they work, and what I can wear them with. So far it seems to be working for me.

Ohhhh. I think we all have regrets. I have tossed some wonderful items also along the way I heard a long time ago to have a holding zone ...for those "ify items". I have run downstairs into the garage and dug things back out weeks later..because I too learned the hard way!

I know most people have a problem holding on to clothes longer than they should- but I wanted to talk about another side of the whole closet sweep issue: tossing clothes that could work when put together in new ways.
See, I was so excited about working on my wardrobe, upgrading my look (which has been ignored for the past 10 years) that I just went through my closet like a tornado, tossing everything that wasn't perfect, or that I hadn't worn in a long time. Problem is, I haven't worn a lot of the items more from a lack of imagination than from anything really wrong. For example, I tossed out a BR white button down shirt as too boring. But it would be a perfect layering piece, and I'm kicking myself because I don't have funds to run out and go shopping. Some of the tops I pitched as too short would've worked with skirts, but I didn't think about that because I'm just now beginning to wear skirts again (inspired by YLF).
So, if there is anyone else out there like me (you've been out of the style loop for awhile, can't wait to look better, gung ho to pitch stuff, limited budget) let me suggest you do that closet sweep AFTER you've been on YLF for a few weeks. The imagination and inspiration you'll get from this place could help you find ways to use your closet orphans.
