To help control pilling I use an inexpensive hand/fingernail brush on areas starting to pill each time I've worn a sweater. I don't think the pockets are meant to be hip pockets (you're not that long waisted ). They look fine to me. It looks like a fun winter piece. I don't know what to advise you about the fabric pilling. I've had many sweaters do that and I just get frustrated and complain about it with no solution. Do you wear it as a top layer under your outerwear?
