I usually do the cotton thing too, but Diana recommended these to me. Not much to look at in the "Find" picture and not something I would wear without a top, but I was rather pleased with the one I ordered.

I'm really glad to hear the new arrivals (so far) are working out!

(Can you link to the heatgear top or give recommendations for warm layering tops? Last winter I used thin cotton long sleeve tops as layers, but the sleeves bunched up and I wasn't that much warmer.)

Updates:
1. The Unliquo sweatshirt came in in M today --- it fits perfect, exactly as I expected.
2. The heatgear top under the navy blouse eliminated 90-95% of the pulling I experienced last time I wore the blouse--- I think the fabric was catching on the cotton, and anyway the heatgear is warmer, thinner and snugger and the neckline doesn't compete, so far so good.
3. The silk tee is gorgeous, worth the money (and PSA, if you are littler than I am or larger, there is also one in black) --- however, I had to reorder 1 size down. I think this is mostly me . . . I've returned a lot of larges this season--- I like fluid fit, so in less fluid fashion years I tend to size up, and now I don't need to.

I really appreciate all of the feedback--- especially with cold weather encroaching it makes me more confident to start wearing my capsule.

I'm still waiting on the grey ponte slacks, the grey tee, the purple sweater, the burgundy sweater, a couple of bags I ordered to try and the flannel shirt. Most of those should arrive early next week. This week my plan is to order shoes and at least one belt. From there, once my final orders arrive I will re-evaluate and pick up replacement or additional tops, scarves, bags/wallets, hats, belts and shoes.

I'm still missing a layering piece for my black tee-blouse, still unsure of how my olive jacket works into the wardrobe, iffy about the pink and black button downs (plan to put them through their paces), and not too sure about what to do about the olive shoes.

Shoe-wise I'm wondering about a oxford or something to go with my boots or another boot would be most practical. I really need to find a belt or two, and might post in the forum for advice.

Then I will be on the hunt for 1-3 scarves, trying two hat styles, maybe a band tee, possibly another flannel or drapey blouse or pullover depending on my success.

November I plan on doing mostly Christmas shopping for family and friends, in December I may or may not be on the hunt for something special to wear to the SOs holiday party and in Dec/Jan might entertain a wool coat if the right one came around at the right price. February I anticipate a short trip to southern AZ, which might be an excellent time to buy a new blouse, scarf, or pair of shoes to brighten up winter or use to prepare for the transition.

Other than that, I shouldn't be shopping much until next spring where my focus will be on 1-2 pair cropped pants (bf jeans, slim crops), 1-2 skirts, tops (sleeveless, 1-2 interesting tees/tee blouses, a linen camp shirt maybe), a new ball cap or straw hat, and work shoes-- I should be starting that season off in much better shape than this fall, with fewer items to add (plus a shorter season!).

Now back to you ladies:

Thimblelina-- you tease! those are beautiful.

Caro-- thanks, neutrals are my favorite. I love pairing navy, black, olive, charcoal and camels together.

Style Fan-- I'm glad you approve of my jean variety. For years I wore only bootcuts, but I'm loving the slim straight silhouette, and well and the slim BF look.

Thimblelina-- I'm glad my colors are speaking you you-- you are one of my fellow neutral lovers! It is also possible we are the same "season". Very good point about items that might irritate. I'm going to try the couple items with some layers since how I will wear them this winter is totally different than how they have been worn before for summer (i.e. with a tank under, period). Depending on that, I may have to let them go, because if they really bug me I won't wear them. The pink shirt might get saved for transitional wear alone or over a tee, the navy blouse is really frustrating me since it is new, and likewise with the oatmeal shirt which I know will be worn (casually or to work). I'm really on the fence about the green shoes because they are slowly getting less comfortable, but I would have to replace them with another pair of standing shoes. The jeans are still very comfortable and functional, just starting to show wear.

Suz-- the navy blouse is the one thing I'm considering trying to replace -- I'm really frustrated because I never caught the shoulder issue until I had it layered over a tank and tried to lift my arms above my head--- it passed my usual moveablity tests. The oatmeal tee will get worn, but it stretched much more than anticipated.

Claire-- I'm glad you like the top. It is the same silhouette as my favorite black tee blouse and I'm hoping it will work out-- washable silk on discount plus a coupon code was irresistible even though it is more of a spring summer piece but can be used for layering.

Alasse- I hope so. I've had several items I was interested sell out on me, and several more have been returned, but so far so good.

Rachy-- I think that this should work for bottoms. I don't wear skirts in the winter to work, have my ponte skirt, and a wool pencil I'm going to take a look at to see if it is worth altering the waist or if I should pass it on. I have the 2 pairs of dress slacks, plus the ponte pants, BF jeans, black jeans, skinny jeans, and 1-3 pair of bootcuts in various conditions. My workplace is jeans friendly.

Elly, you are thinking very clearly here. I like your choices and I can see how they are going to mix and match and work into your life.

I do echo Thimbelina about not hanging onto items that bug you especially in the fit -- I mean, assuming you haven't already cut the tags. If you have and don't want to eat the money, as you say, then maybe an alteration is possible?

Girl, you are speaking my colors! I like so many of your choices here. And I like the size of your capsule. It's large enough to feel generous but still collegial insofar as all the pieces will get a chance to come out. My only caution is if something raises a red flag with you now, consider dumping it because you probably won't like it any better after 20 more wears. I tried so hard to make a pair of NYDJ gray skinny jeans work in my most recent capsule but they were a dog from the get go. After several attempts at wearing them, I really felt like burning them in my outdoor chiminea was too good of an ending for them -- I wanted them to suffer as much as I had wearing them! LOL
Cant wait to see your WIWS!! xo

Our weather just switched. We still expect some days in the low 70s, but our boiler in our building is now on and it was 68 degrees as a high in my office yesterday! I'm glad I've been working on my capsule since early September. That said, I'm not done yet.

This year I have a budget as always, but for the first time I'm not too worried about trying to get things at an ultra-low price. I did some calculations and I think I will be ok.

So far the plan is to carry over from Spring/Summer and past seasons:

1. hot pink button down shirt with french cuffs--- purchased this back in 2012 as part of my interview capsule (wanted something for s/s interview wear that wasn't b/w)-- worn maybe 7 times so far-- color looks good on me but not the most "natural" as I look better in deeper pink/purples or red/oranges - french cuffs a pain at work unless rolled or flipped over a jacket -- was planning to wear under sweater this year but so far all results have been bunchy- is possible shoulders and or arms are too big
2. black b/d-- same as above, slimmer fit through shoulders, almost tunic length, will try with denim jacket, warm under layer, and grey ponte skinnies
3. 3 black and 2 navy black GAP supersoft l/s crewneck tees -- layering pieces, some may need replacement mid-season
4. ON army jacket-- loved this all spring, summer, and fall-- having harder time pairing in winter
5. Speigel draped leather jacket ----- love love love this--- need to repair lining in one sleeve
6. ON denim jacket--- likewise love this-- sleeves are very long, but I generally cuff all year indoors to avoid the button issue with artifacts
7. Black poly diagonal sleeve tee blouse--- this is a favorite, plan to wear with slim layering piece underneath, however my first few attempts were fails do to color/neckline/sleeve slimness
8. 1-2 pair of older medium blue bootcuts--- I think I will definitely wear the longer pair with my ugly green shoes and heeled boots, the shorter pair is probably getting demoted
9. GAP sexy bootcuts
10. black RL turtleneck -- t-shirt weight, draped top -- looks best with leather jacket, which makes it look pretty "dressy" -- will try with distressed jeans or grey ponte, otherwise it is staying in my gallery capsule
11. black leather jacket- euro style slim from janet
12. burgundy euro sneaks -- most comfy shoes I own
13. red Miz Mooz distressed chelsea
14. olive "ugly" shoes-- very padded for long days on my feet but a bit wide
15. I also have a pair of dress oxfords (not for daily work wear) and a pair of grey sneakers I can wear inside, plus gear shoes to commute in on really sloppy days
16. ss olive rayon drapey tee -- only good as underlayer in winter

So far I have purchased and am absolutely keeping (purchased w/ tags off):
17. oatmeal tee from NAS -- good color for me, might be a size too big or just fluid fit?
18. Gap dark indigo straight leg jeans (love these so far, fit like skinnies)
19. navy white and coral scarf print blouse -- winter under layer is on order, may be a tad snug in shoulders - wondering if I should eat the money and get a bigger size or wear it

I'm tenatively keeping:
20. Gap straights in a distressed colorway a size up--- slim BFs?
21. Gap straights, black
22. Halogen zip shoulder sassy sweatshirt (blk)
23. Marled medium charcoal grey GAP hoodie (for layering under jackets for warmth)
24. Black pleione draped 3/4 sleeve blouse -- love this but wondering about how seasonal it will be-- this is probably a keeper either way, but may not work at work unless I have something warm under and or over it, otherwise it will be the warm weather gallery capsule piece

I've ordered and am waiting on a smaller size:
25. navy ON cardi---- to wear with scarf print blouse, larger size a bit big in shoulders, kinda shapeless -- we will see how the medium fits
26. olive Unliquo sweatshirt---- BF suggested one size smaller for weekend wear

Things that I'm just waiting on arriving:
27. grey ponte straight legs -- excited about these, wondering if they are a duplicate of the black jeans
28. navy blue silk tee -- this was on deep sale, may not work for winter
forest green plaid shirt -- I really hope this fits, I hope that the navy cardi also works under it
29. some heattgear underlayers
30. Burgundy v-neck zip hem sweater -- not sure about the color, know I want a draped pullover and something dark red
31. charcoal and black colorblock draped BR tee -- this may not be warm enough for our weird building in winter
32. purple and black patterned BR sweater -- hope I ordered the right size

I also have a pair of deep grey wool slacks and a pair of self-stripe rayon black slacks and the halogen ponte seamed pencil skirt in black-- none are work appropriate but are worn for funerals, interviews, gallery openings, etc. I have a white button down that I keep exclusively for interviews and funerals.

Still looking to add:
maybe 1-2 more tops
3 pair of boots
2 belts
scarves
maybe 1 dress

Things in italics are items I'm considering getting rid of, demoting or just keeping OUT of the capsule for occasional wear.
Bold items are things that may be more suited to summer.
