That's rotten! I am so sorry that happened...AGAIN! And it sort-of doubles-up on the disappointment when the store doesn't seem to care about it as much as you do. But I'm glad you got reacquainted with their pants styles.

Update: I emailed them about the problem with the packaging, including my picture of the first "packaging", how it was "there but not used" and it seemed like they didn't really care. That was the most disappointing part of it all! The replacement they sent was also broken! In about the same spot as the other one and in another spot! One of they crystals was cracked on the bottom and kept falling out. I took it to the closest store and got a credit. I ended up trying and liking a pair of their Ryan cut slacks. I didn't think any of their more refined slacks would fit my curves but they felt good. I have yet to experiment with them. The customer service in the store was good. I have mixed feelings right now.

What a beautiful necklace! I'm sorry it was packaged so carelessly.

When I ordered Jerusalem sandals from Zappos and they arrived defective (the color was missing from part of a strap) Zappos insisted on sending another pair. It was defective, too, in the same way. It was a nuisance because I had to go to UPS to send them back. Anyway, they ended up giving me a $25 credit for my trouble, which I appreciated. I was surprised because I didn't make a big stink, I just didn't want them to send another pair. Zappos is great. I think BR should do the same for you. Your time is definitely worth something.

so, a word about packaging....think of this as a two edged sword. most retailers are trying to be responsible about waste, which packing ultimately becomes, (and which many customers complain about), on the other hand, they don't want to ship product in packaging that isn't going to protect the merchandise....finding the correct mix isn't always easy.

Thank you for commenting, so many packaging incidents are really surprising! They are treating it like a regular exchange. I'll get a credit when they receive it back and can order a new one if desired. I fussed about my disappointment in the horrible packaging and wanting to wear it this weekend and in the end she offered me 10% off a new one and added that she could not guarantee how it would be packaged and from where it would be shipped. I love it so much I am trying again but am second guessing that now. A better response would have been so appreciated!

I'm noticed some crazy packaging recently, too. Amazon sent a cymbal (a ride cymbal for a drum set) in a long box -- not a lick of padding. These are instruments, people! It seems like protecting items from damage would be an important part of staying profitable and retaining customer satisfaction!

So disappointing! Are they sending a replacement? I had a similar experience just about a month ago--I purchased a pair of fairly expensive sandals from a small, independent boutique and they arrived with no packing around them...just rattling around inside the cardboard box. Both shoes were scuffed on the leather all around the heel, so I had to send them back. I packed them with tissue and documented the condition so that I wouldn't be held accountable. Packing like that is just a sloppy mistake, isn't it?

I ordered this necklace from Banana Republic at the end of December. It came today. I was so excited, as I've wanted a clear necklace (with no backing on the crystal parts) for a long time and fell in love with this and was super excited when it recently showed up as an Angie pick! The picture shows exactly how it came. It was, of course, broken. It laid between a layer of bubble wrap with no enclosure, on top of a plastic bag, on top of a piece of cardboard. No wonder it was ruined! The only thing my brain can grasp is that it was a return, mistakenly picked up and put in an outgoing shipment. I called customer service and she apologized and asked if I wanted to place a replacement order. I said I didn't want to blame anyone but that higher ups should see how this happened so that they can control shipments better and she tried to access a form for me to fill out to no avail. I took this picture so I can email it to them just so they can see. We'll see how I do with that. :(

I might choose to drop it off at the closest store even though they don't carry it but don't know if I should.
