Oh no! I lucked out and found a pair of pants his size in REI’s garage that sound like he’ll enjoy wearing them, and I don’t think they’ll stand out. But then I got the pants I already had out to check if they’re the right size & to pack them and... I think they’re for me! The only size label says “10” and look how they’re shaped. Too small for me now but the thin thighs and bootcut make me think they’re probably not men’s pant. That explains why I didn’t have any lights going off about gear pants stashed away for him.

I’m off to order those pants Jenn’s son likes and the joggers and cargo pants SarahD8 found! It’s probably too late to have cords hemmed as Runcarla suggests. But crisis averted, thanks to you guys.

La Ped, I was so sad when he sized out of HA! He’s 5’10” now, so there’s no going back to the 160s.

My first though was something like the jersey lined joggers in Sarah's link. I know Boden and Hanna Andersson stock similar styles. You might want to pick his brain a bit about fly style-- is he okay with drawstring and elastic waist, or does he prefer button/zipper? Elastic waist may seem too little kid, or loungewear.

Not only did DS#1 not like jeans, at 6ft 4+in he has a 38in inseam. I bought him LE men’s corduroys (unfinished) in every colour they had in wide and regular wale, then gave them a scant 1/4 inch hem. He liked the grey and the mustard coloured ones best, but wore them all. They were always very soft.

He wears scrub bottoms (a gift from his nursing student younger brother) around the house in lieu of sweats or PJ’s.

Hey, sorry about those busted links, fashiontern.

I was looking at the:

Built-In Flex Flat-Front Joggers for Boys
http://oldnavy.gap.com/browse/.....=136185002

Jersey-Lined Twill Joggers for Boys
http://oldnavy.gap.com/browse/.....=863828022

and Rib-Knit Waist Canvas Cargos for Boys
http://oldnavy.gap.com/browse/.....=821855002

You know, we have been getting a bunch of hand-me-downs from a family in our neighborhood with a girl a couple years older than mine who also only wears soft pants. So I think these sensitivities are a lot more common than we might think.

Emily, yes! That’s just what I’m looking for. Any suggestions?

Jenn and SarahD8, thanks. He has such high sensitivity in so many things. It helps to hear other kids share some of them too. I will certainly look into the AE jeans. The pair he has now are Hollister, because he likes their soft short-sleeved shirts. The Old Navy links are taking me to the homepage. Maybe that’s because I’m on my phone. I’ll have to try again later, or stop by the store.

Isabel, when I returned a bunch of things at The Rack recently, there was a pair of nau pants in the bunch. They could t accept them. I have no recollection of getting them, but I will have to have my young man try them on, or maybe we could check out the REI store that opened near an amusement park an hour away. Thanks for the thought.

Maybe try sweat pants that are tailored a bit more than the average Champion product? You know...fitted at the waist and with slimmer cut legs etc.

My son went through a phase where he would only wear a very specific style of Nike track pants to school. He thought jeans and chinos were too stiff, and any brand other than Nike was either too big around the waist or too short in the legs. He's not into sports at all (besides one weekly fencing class), so it was really just because of the comfort. We bought several pairs and that's all he wore for a couple of years.

Last year, he finally expressed an interest in adding some jeans, and we found American Eagle's "extreme flex" jeans. They're softer than most, stretch comfortably, and are available in a wide range of waist/length combinations online. Kiddo wears a 28x34, which isn't easy to find! He has three pairs of those he rotates in now, but he still goes back to the track pants when he's not feeling well or wants to be extra comfortable (i.e. for testing or theatre dance rehearsals).

I sympathize, my daughter will only wear "soft pants." She typically wears joggers or yoga-type pants with a long-sleeve tee in winter. Since it's a tee rather than a sweatshirt it doesn't look like she's just wearing a jogging suit / sweat suit. Maybe if your son needs a topper for warmth he could wear a jean jacket or something with a little structure?

A few possibilities from Old Navy:

Jersey-lined, might be less warm than flannel.

Without the lining, jogger-style but woven fabric.

Soft waistband and not too fitted.

I recently tried on some Eddie Bauer flannel lined jeans and chinos for women and liked them. I hope this link works - if not just go to the site and search "flannel lined". They have mens jeans, chinos and cargo pants and everything is 50% off right now.

They're not always soft as sweats but many technical pants are incredibly comfortable, attractively structured and obviously, very durable.

My son is a teen-ager. He doesn’t like to be noticed, but he likes very soft things, including clothes that are soft on the inside. He generally insists on wearing Lands End khaki school shorts to high school. We have enough for every day of the week. Recently it’s been so chilly he’s agreed to long pants, but we are having a hard time finding some he likes.

When he was little, he loved his flannel and flannel-lined pants. Those won’t work now, because I can’t find any that are just flannel, and flannel-lined pants are too warm and might look “weird” (read “distinctive in any way). Same with linen; he thought they were “like wearing pajamas!” in the summer, but when I suggest he put them on for school, he gives me death stares.

Jeans are too stiff and uncomfortable. Sweats are soft but rumpley, especially with a sweatshirt. Corduroy is soft on the outside, but not against your skin. What young men’s pants are as soft as sweats and look as nice as jeans, without looking distinctive in any way?
