I think another thing to remember is that you can add volume to the top while still wearing fitted clothes. I have a strong shoulder line and look absurd in cap sleeved tops. It has nothing to do with how tight or lose they are, they just make my shoulders look super broad. So you can balance the look of your shoulders to match your hips without actually making them bulkier.

I agree that you would look much better in pencil skirts than A-line skirts. You don't need to add any width to your bottom half but should instead show off your curves!

Oh, and I wanted to mention that I also prefer pencil skirts on me. I just make sure they hit RIGHT at my knee.
I also avoid tunics. I just don't appreciate the look on me as much as other looks.
That's why guidelines are good - it's a starting point. I embrace my curves and don't mind wearing a fitted top with a pencil skirt. So I say, rock it.

I definitely see pear. I'm a pear too, and sometime struggle with the volume on top guideline.
But here's an example that might help you
http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_JA8_.....l8+004.jpg
My top has volume so it neatly balances out my wider thighs/hips, but the structured nature of the top, plus a waist belt, gives me that hourglass shape.
So it doesn't really make one body part bigger per se, it just balances out the top and bottom and gives me the illusion of being an hourglass.
Here's another example
http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_JA8_.....25+005.jpg
I hope this helps! And welcome to the forums.

Eh, I still see hourglass... especially since following pear guidelines doesn't make you feel too fab.

I have to admit that I don't like some things about the pear guidelines. For example, it's all about adding volume to the top. I'm not going to add volume to ANY part of my body, maybe except hair and eyelashes. I'm big enough on my own.

I'm confused about the skirts. Many people told me that I look better in pencil skirts than in A-line skirts (maybe I should post two pics in differents skirts?). I don't really like wearing tunics too - they make me look pregnant.

Where should I wear belts, btw? Natural waist or lower?

With the additional photo, I'm thinking you may be more of a pear shape. Your shoulders seem narrower than I thought at first. What do you think of the pear guidelines? Would they suit you?

I agree that you are probably short-waisted. It seems like a narrower belt would trick the eye into assuming you had a longer waist.

Finally managed to take another shot:
http://s867.photobucket.com/al.....c_fail.jpg

My head is cropped because my hair is wet and my legs are cropped at the knees because my jeans are too short. Sorry... It's sort of hard to tell what is my belt and what is my wallpaper, but I think that my waist is visible enough.

I'm curious about the body shape modifiers. I'm almost 100% sure that I'm short-waisted, but what about the rest? Short legs? Long legs? Is there any formula? Large bust? Small bust?

And finally - should I wear narrow (1st picture) or wide belts (2nd picture)?

I've always thought Nigella Lawson was the epitome of the hourglass. Really, hourglass and pear lower bodies are extremely similar. It's only that hourglasses have broader shoulders and larger busts. I know this site classifies hourglasses a bit differently, looking at shoulder width without relation to the bust, but I still think of hourglasses as busty and full in the bottom. Anyway, to me, the difference on top is that pears have slight upper bodies and hourglasses have full, broad-shouldered ones. Both have narrow waists.

I can't post any pictures right now, but I'd like to thank you for the feedback!

I've just read the body type "balancing act" and it says "You’ll always want to strive to look taller and slimmer" about the hourglass shape. LOL, I wrote the same thing in the first post! However, it doesn't mean I'm a 100% hourglass, the problem with being short and stocky is probably universal and not limited to one particular body shape ;)

I searched the forums and there's one thing on my mind. Beyonce and Nigella Lawson are YLF pears, right? OK, Beyonce seems a bit bottom-heavy, but Nigella is said to be a textbook hourglass everywhere else. What's the difference between them and Sophia Loren or Marilyn Monroe? The shoulder width thing? Maybe I'm too analytical, but I'd really love to know. Thanks in advance to anyone who can explain it!

From that photo, I would guess hourglass. A full-on photo would be good too. You are very curvy and seem balanced top and bottom, so that's why I'm inclined to say hourglass first.

This is somewhat related to my previous thoughts:
http://youlookfab.com/welookfa.....lower-body

I've got a full body picture now:
http://i867.photobucket.com/al.....f/full.jpg

I had to remove the background, it was too distracting. Hope you don't mind.

About my clothes... I don't wear things from this picture. My everyday clothes are much looser. I bought the pants when I was 13, now they're too short and too tight. The top is not as old, but too small as well. Finally, the belt - it was the first time I wore it. I did it only because I have to make sure that I'm short-waisted. I don't like drawing attention to my body. Frankly, I hate it. I've always strived to be taller and slimmer - or at least LOOK taller and slimmer.

OK, that much self-pity is enough.

I thought I'm a pear, but now, looking at my "lovely" shape, I'm not sure. An apple with pearish tendencies, maybe. What do you guys think?
