I have several pairs of black footwear in all seasons as I have some black clothing pieces for all seasons. Summer is my most colorful season so mostly black espadrilles get worn. Sometimes black flats get worn in worm weather, especially for dressy occasions. Most of my dressy black flats are quite old. I like black patten or flats with sparkle or fabric bows. It will soon be time to look for replacements. I look for very light weight black flat shoes for travel. I have black Cons and Crocs for casual times. A pair of black Aquatilia booties that are waterproof and a tall pair of black Ecco boots. I need black footwear for funerals and times when a LBD is needed. Even with all this I have been phasing out black in favor of metallics, white, black and white, nude or other colors of shoes. Black is easiest of all shades to find something that fits well.

Hi! Did anyone follow-up on Jen's question about knee-high boots that are wide in the toe box but NOT wide calf? I'd really like to find this, too! Thanks for your help!

Black doesn't bookend my hair as a blonde, but still essential for my wardrobe from fall to spring--as my dark neutral is black -so I have many many pairs and they are used a lot (especially & almost exclusively with black sheers-to everything) keep them forever and yes, duplicate some-too!

8 out of 37 pairs. I would hate to be without them especially in winter, but some are not worn much- too pair high heels which I am holding onto as almost my last heels. Those are also both part of the Art Deco dress-up capsule. I also didn’t wear my tall boots, both black, much last winter, am off them but think they will come back into my favour later. My black loafers are a fave.

I love a good black shoe and they have always been a wardrobe staple for me! In the winter I am often wearing black ankle boots The taller and mid calf boots are worn less often. The oldest are the Fluevogs, (a gift from my husband) early 2001-2? and tall Frye boots, some of black booties are 2016-7. Newest are the Kenneth Cole Lace-up Combat style Boots.
I never wear the ATELJE boots & I think the round toe to to casual or chunky feeling to me. The Pikolinos also sit, I think the heel might be too high for comfortable wear--Im pretty much at a 1" or so

The graphic quality of black sandals appeals to me in the summer, especially as I tend to wear lots of black summer tanks/etc.

I would like to add something new, fresh? I'm not really sure.... Ive been wearing the Blundstones non-stop & enjoying the utilitarian toughness. Would like a sharp ankle boot, (like a Saint Laurent) but needs to have a rubber tread sole for traction...

I will not be posting pics of my black footwear collection as nothing good can come of that

There are no holes in the collection at this time , and I have too many other things on a priority list for wardrobe refreshing that footwear is taking last place . Which is odd for me as I am usually a full-on , equal-opportunity shoe buyer My collection includes workout runners , “ fashion” runners , several pair of mules , Birkenstocks , wedge sandals , Euro-style flat leather sandals , Havianas , other random sandals , 4-5 pair of Chelsea boots , suede tall boots , fashion-y combat boots , short snow boots , felt Sorels , Hunter boots , faux leather Chelseas for inclement weather , fashiony western-ish booties ,stretch knit pointy toe booties ( dress - up only ) loafers , suede flats , patent oxfords , etc. They all get worn and I review them constantly . Wish list when footwear rises higher on the list ? Black converse , faux fur trimmed Birks . While black doesn’t bookend my hair , it does form the basis of most outfits , and gets the most mileage in my closet .

I'm in need of an update on my black shoes. Of the ones in the finds, only the heeled Oxfords are still in great condition. The two pairs of booties are really worn, and I need both for situations in which I want my outfits to be polished. The sandals came and went, and the Mary Janes might get one more summer, but probably not, since the heel is very worn. I'm considering clog boots, like the find, but in black, and a lower-heeled more refined/delicate style, as replacements.

Currently, I have eleven pairs of black footwear. This past year I added only non black shoes because I have the essentials more than covered.
My black footwear is from 1 1/2 years to 6 years old and I wear all of them. If I had to eliminate any, the Pikolinos and the Fly London's would have to go because they are the least worn but still useful for complementing certain outfits. What Angie said about wearing black shoes in winter is true for me because I have five black boots and the Splendid black sneakers that I wear in winter, while having only two pair of black summer sandals and two pair of black spring/fall sneakers. I have no plans to add more black shoes and am currently thinking red!

I wear all my black footwear - the flatforms were probably my most worn pair in 2021. The EF sandals are worn less often now but I like them with culottes. The ankle boots are a basic work option - they are safe and elegant on the foot. The sandals and pumps are both great dressy choices - I like them a lot.

I like your black options Carla and agree with your reasons why they are essential.

I already put my whole black shoes story on today’s blog post, so I’ll summarize instead of repeating.

The only black shoes I wear frequently are my combat boots. I got them here and am happy wearing them here, but in between lived in several places where I didn’t appreciate the looks they got, even when worn with middies or under pants. I come from a map dot, but students often thought I was a city slicker. Based on what some ylf’ers who live there now report, I might take them along when I go back to visit someone in the place I lived the longest (outside of Tampa & Berlin).

I still have the (mostly) black loafers I got in Florida about 4 years ago, even though they’re so stretched I have to wear them with socks now. I would love to find a pair of black sandals that fill the role played by some I got in Florida ~5 years ago. I wore those into the ground. They were my winter shoes there, but they’d work for Berlin summers.

Bit players: black and black tweed pumps for very occasional dress up and black Clark’s ankle boots.

Black shoes I could get:
Dansko-type clogs, possibly patterned
Sandals as mentioned above
Riding boots. I want brown with black accents, but could go the other way. Tabled now because of white ankle boot interference.

I used to wear black footwear nearly exclusively because it seemed "practical."

Now, I attempt to buy other neutrals/ colours in favour of black but still I wear black and find it extremely useful, especially in winter. You can see that from the Finds -- 3 pairs of booties for various situations/ weather conditions, 2 pair of tall boots, and one pump. No sandals or sneakers (my summer footwear).

I always have black footwear. It's practical, works with many of my bottoms -- especially in winter. Given how fussy my feet are, not many brands or styles work for me. Black is usually the most easily available colour.

My current black footwear:

Horrible but practical black winter boot. I think they're about 4 years old now. Want to replace with something a bit more stylish, but being PPP here.

Black patent Clark's loafer -- new this fall

Ecco Chase sneakers -- almost a decade old. They don't get a lot of wear anymore, but I haul them out for wet or icky conditions. These have cute colourful stripes on the tongue and were my favourites FOREVER. Also sentimental faves as I broke them in walking the streets of Paris on my 50th birthday.

Blundstone chisel toe boots. About 4 years old, I think. Worn as my main office footwear during the worst of my foot challenges. Didn't see much action in year 1 of pandemic, but have been in rotation quite a bit this fall.

Birks -- just worn around home -- especially in summer for running out to the yard. Also abour 4 years old.

My wishlist?
In addition to the dressier winter boot mentioned above, I wouldn't mind finding a somewhat refined (and not winter-lined) black boot that I could wear casually, but also with dressier pants and skirts when needed. I had always thought laceups because they tend to be healthiest for the feet, but I just realized another option could be staring me in the face.

I might want to add a pair of chunky black sandals this summer

Possibly another black Ecco sneaker to update the decades old Chase.

I've got an expensive wardrobe year ahead, so I'll have to move quite strategically on the footwear additions. This wish list might have to span two or three years....

I have basic black shoes, the full complement—flats, pumps, boots and probably sneakers hiding somewhere. But my combats are the only ones I wear with any regularity. The more I think about it, the more I’m convinced I think they’re office wear… it’s a thought (!)

Some are older (2014 for the patent tuxedo pumps) and some new this year (loafers and NOBULL sneakers) but all pull their weight in my closet. They cut across all categories with the exception of summer sandals. The combat boots have been MVP’s since I got them three years ago and are showing their age. I’m researching/shopping for a replacement - thus my earlier thread asking about Blundstones. I’m keeping an eye open for dressier black tall boots with a low heel, but exercising PPP since it isn’t an urgent need.

What is your black footwear story? Do you duplicate? What’s on your wish list?
