RobinF, I hear what you're saying about "is it me?" I am just realizing that while I love to buy T-shirts, and I think they are me because I am drawn to them, they really AREN'T me. They really don't look good on me (( I need more structure) and I'm sure they are not part of my desired style persona. I started to make a list of what I want my style persona to be, and what I know is holding me back. On this list I made a note for myself that says "no more plain T-shirts". This also means I need to stop shopping the knitwear tables at Target. So cheap, so many colors! So hard to resist.

I'm totally with you. My qualifications have always been, does it fit and how expensive is it. I don't take into consideration whether it is ME or not (although does that fact that I picked it out and tried it on mean it is me?) Anyway, this has resulted in a closet full of pieces but no idea how I want to look. And I love the idea of the descriptors but it is really hard for me to figure this out. Thanks Suz for the links, I need to get serious about this before getting out my fall/winter clothing.

I too have bought things just because they fit. I totally get you! In my case if it was on sale too I could not leave the store without it, like an addiction. I'm a pretty recent ylf member but have learned so much and have mostly broken this habit. I'm working on style descriptors although I have to say it's not an easy thing. Many people have several and they often change over time. The aha moment is the most important thing and now you can move forward

Thanks suz for posting those links I could use a refresher....

Good for you, Tammy. Have fun finding the descriptors that sum up your style. They really do make shopping so much easier.

I believe in style descriptors! They totally provide focus and filters. They are literary lenses.

Well done!!

I think we all deserve to have clothes that we love, whatever our lifestyle, budget or shape, and certainly getting ones that fit is important too. I have made the mistake of NOT being picky enough about fit in the past.

I had this a-ha moment reading a post here recently. I was thinking of what descriptors I want to feel/see when I am shopping and making decisions about what to wear. So,I thought "what descriptors do I use now to decide?" Sadly, it's often been "oh good it fits!" Honestly, I am a little sad that I have settled for that for so many years and NEVER EVEN QUESTIONED IT! Can anyone else identify with this?

(As I said it's an a-ha moment. I am definitely a glass half full person, so once I got over my little sadness, I got excited and started to think what do I WANT my descriptors to be?" I am so excited to redefine my style with this new empowerment!)
