I also greatly prefer unlined bras with more natural shape and movement! The padded, rigid look doesn't fit my style as well. Coverage isn't an issue for my particular chest most days, so I don't have to worry about that, but I can understand how it adds another aspect to the decision.

Bralettes don't work as well for me - I choose unlined/unpadded underwire bras with seamed cups for a little more shaping. I didn't wear a bra at all through college and my early 20s but looking back, I prefer how I look with one. (My chest is medium, I'd say, so a bra does make a difference.)

I can see why people like the smooth padded t shirt bras but I'm excited to see more natural shapes now.

I should clarify: the minimizer is good for taking care of less-than-tight underarm flesh, extra breast tissue that may not be up front any more, etc. Pulls and pushes everything in without making you look even bigger. Not just for big breasts.

Re: the bra thing. I hate the overly structured and padded ones too, but I'm just not down with "exposed " nipples, on me, you, men, whoever. The other day, I was watching a video from Dominique Sasche (who does good makeup vids) and she had a genius recommendation/solution based on her experience wearing form-fitting dresses in her job as a TV broadcaster: she wears a Soma minimizer bra (they are always unpadded and unlined but do have underwire) with silicone petals inserted into the cup area. Problem solved.. I'm all over this and will be buying a couple of those minimizers soon .

Delurked -- so nice to see you. Bra fittings are a major problem. I might be wearing the right size. Who really knows? I talk to professionals and they all tell me something different. And I might add that all the professionals tell me they know how to fit a bra. That other person is just not very good at it. I finally settled on comfort ... especially in the band. All my bras are not relatively comfortable.

An article on bras: https://www.racked.com/2017/6/.....s-terrible

Sterling there is nothing wrong with a 1:1 outfit. Supposedly our eye prefers the Golden Mean and that is why we often see designers using the number 3. I have an 1:1 outfit on today.
I am not a fan of those pastie things. I wish I didn't have to worry about such things.

OMG. Style Fan. I had to go back and check to see the 1:1. It never even occurred to me that this did not meet the Golden Mean. Do you see how I have trouble seeing this on myself? I'm not sure why my eye has trouble seeing it on me. I can spot it miles away on someone else.

Perhaps if I tucked in the shirt? Not that I would do that at home, but I might if in public.

LaP -- I have actually tried those pastie things and they do work for me. I have also trie plain ordinary scotch tape. That works too. Two things. The pastie things can get expensive if you use them five days a week (at that time I was working five days in the office). Then I worried about the general health of putting adhesive directly on that part of my body. The skin seems so delicate. It is probably not a big deal, but my Mother died of breast cancer and I am worry about weird things.

Thank you, Emily. Bras complicate my life. During the winter months when I am wearing layers and/or thicker fabrics, I go braless at home all together.

Thank you, TexStyle. Based on the pictures, I feel I look better too. I wonder if I am standing differently in the office? Maybe my posture is just better? Regardless, I hate padded bras with a passion. I feel I have to wear them because I work in a conservative setting where the men outnumber the women. AND I have yet to see a single woman go braless or show her nipples in our office. Add in the fact that I am actually very shy.

There was a long conversation a couple days ago about bra choices/preferences over on the blog Grechen's Closet. I think a lot of people are moving towards soft bras, bralettes, etc and that the less structured look is becoming more acceptable, maybe even preferable.

They don't work for everyone, but you could try one of your more comfortable bras plus breast petals/pasties and see if that would be enough coverage for work. There's a wide variety:

I'm in the same bra-boat. I've had the idea that the bra with the most support, definition, etc. is the most flattering (don't know how/why I think that) but maybe going for a more "natural" shape in a less-engineered bra might be equally flattering, more comfortable, and even a little minimizing? Maybe I should have a look around at the bra shop.

Enjoying your post Sterling and just thought I'd add my two cents about bras - you look much better to me in the image with the comfortable bra. I wouldn't give a care in the world about having a nipple bump showing - no matter where I worked. But that's me. :-). I own exactly one padded bra and only wear it with a couple of tops because it happens to be a plunge style that works with low cut tops and none of my non-padded ones work this way - I'm on the hunt though.

Sigh.

Thank you for asking Jenni NZ. The difference in bras has to do with padding to minimize the nipple appearance. When I am at home, I wear unlined bras with no underwire. They provide support and in my opinion are much more comfortable. When I go into public I wear bras with padding. The pudding is as minimal as I can find, but it is padding just the same.

Years ago I stood in Victoria Secret looking for a bra. I was examining their bras and found that the bras were major feats of construction. They were constructed to add massive lift/boast/size. They looked unnatural and ridiculous in my humble opinion. I eventually found some bras at Nordstrom that had minimal padding and looked "more natural."

If I had my choice in life, I would not care what other people saw, but I work in a more conservative setting. I am obligated to care. Hence, two sets of bras of different types.

Until I took the pictures I hadn't realized the difference the two bra types made in appearance. It surprised me. I never took pictures of my at-home outfits before.

SO, one more learning experience from the 30 x 30. Only four days in.

I teleworked during the day. I cleaned. I did some physical labor in the house. I never left the house. No shoes. Just one top, one bottom, and earrings. This outfit was perfect for the.days activities.

I notice that when I am at home I wear very different bras than when I am in a public setting. I very much prefer the pictures with the less structured bras. I wonder if I would have the courage to wear them outside the house?

I like the navy and olive together. Style Bee is my favourite blogger (after Angie of course). I bought my Jesse Kamm pants after seeing them on her blog. She also lives near where I use to live (Guelph).

Today's outfit. I wore the same pants as yesterday. I just switched tops. I am in love with navy paired with olive. Right now, my favorites color combination.

Sterling, thank you for this link. I enjoyed reading it and exploring her outfits so far. It makes me wish that I'd included my wide legged pants.

"To be honest, I found it WAY harder to pick 30 items for 30 days than I’ve ever found choosing 10 items for 10 days with the 10×10 Challenge. But that’s because it’s a longer time period, the weather is less predictable and well, it means waving goodbye to much of my beloved closet for a whole month! ". That quote struck me as I think I've had an easier time packing a carry on for 2 weeks or more. I also knew that I'd miss the rest of my closet. So far, so good.

Several Forum Members mentioned this blogger and the fact that she was doing a 30 x 30.

http://www.stylebee.ca/2017/06.....xperiment/

I am posting the link here because she speaks to her guidelines regarding her challenge. Here are a few of her guidelines.

I included coats, tops, pants, dresses, shoes and skirts.

I didn’t include accessories, loungewear, rainwear or activewear.

Be sure to check the forecast for you get too committed to certain items.

You can certainly choose less than 30 if you want to make it harder.

If you change your mind on an item feel free to swap it out!

She also wrote of her trepidation about starting a challenge like this. I felt very similar emotions on the first day.

It might be a interesting read to some of us. Enjoy.

Emily K -- Those are GAP Khakis bought on sale. They are amazingly comfortable. The fabric is a soft almost sueded cotton. The olive color is perfect too.

I'm glad you posted, Delurked. I totally understand that the 30 x 30 is not for everyone. Your goal of wearing your entire wardrobe, especially the pieces you inadvertently save, is just as important. It suits you better. Well done.

Thank you, LisaP. I do want to look half way decent in the field.

Sal -- I literally track everything, but I built my spreadsheets up over a longer period of time. I started with just my work clothes and then added in different categories like sleep wear and workout wear. It really does help me make better buying decisions.

The addition of categories and tally column will certainly be interesting and benefit you. You will instantly know what you buy a lot of and what is lagging.

Tracking accessories is good too. I use these data less frequently. I did find I can rationalize paying high prices for bags, belts, and earrings because once purchased I use them continuously and the cost per wear goes down really fast. Scarfs are worn so rarely, I wonder why I even look at them. Yet ... I love those women that make wearing scarfs appear effortless. I keep trying.

Your logic for tracking gear makes total sense to me. I have seen those people that wear gear all the time and then "clothes" to go out. Although I defended them on some other post on YLF, I am getting tired of the whole legging thing. It just looks so boring to my eye now. When I was on vacation out west, the women wearing leggings just looked totally out of place and ridiculous. They did not look sporty. They looked frantically "desperate." I was wondering if you had to live in a thriving urban area to pull off that look? Because it certainly did not work in the National Parks.

Fun to watch, but totally glad I'm not playing myself. I'm more interested in wearing all my pieces, and as you mentioned, you saw my summer wardrobe was more variety than uniform. One of my current goals is to wear the pieces I inadvertently save because I don't want them to wear out (smacks forehead). It's bad when I move past something I could have worn out if if worn it when I wanted to most.

I just had a list of pieces, dates worn. I then added categories and also a tally column.

I have a seperate list of accessories worn.

I am not tracking gear at all - I have a great sized capsule and operate one in one out. However if I end up wearing the gear all day (which if I am honest can happen on a Thursday when I walk in the morning and try and run in the afternoon, then shower) then I will include it. I feel this is different to working out gear. I have seen in some capsules people wear basically gear all the time and then "clothes" to go out. I don't quite operate that way although there are days the line is pretty blurred!!
