<p><div>Sal, you are not too late. I needed as many people as possible to remind me I shouldn't wear the sweatshirt when I can wear something I like.</div><div>suntiger, well, I admit I would like to have a pair of mustard sneaks, but not to wear with the sweatshirt.&nbsp; I have shoes in place, so if I bought sneaks, they would be extra, so am not counting on getting them.&nbsp; Want to tell us your experience or maybe you already posted, if so post the link if you will. <br /></div>

<p>I agree, between the volume and the length it's a lot of shirt, yellow or otherwise. I like the idea of a scarf, particularly in a print, and/ or plum or white bottoms. But don't buy anything to try to make it work- ask me how I know....

<p>I am late to this, but I agree with Sterling and everyone else.&nbsp; I am one who does sometimes wear something that I don't love because it is practical or "fine" but I don't make myself wear things I actively dislike.</p>
<p>It is pretty and someone else will like it a lot!!

<p>unfrumped, thanks for your comments.&nbsp; I have learned a lot this "session".&nbsp; One thing for sure, I don't care much for&nbsp; sweatshirts in any color&nbsp; and especially any shade of yellow.&nbsp; On me, that is.&nbsp; I am sure many others wear them well.

<p>Sterling’s comments are brilliant.<br />
Regardless of color, that sweatshirt style is hard to look good in- even if long- waisted - because of the low welt and excess sweatshirt- weight fabric. Then if color is also wrong , it’s super no- go.<br />
I don’t know your colors but you might need much shorter ( but not cropped) boxy- tops that hit a a good spot for your best proportions.

<p>I think what <b>JAileen</b> is getting at is that life is too short to wear clothing that make us feel bad about ourselves. &nbsp;Although I am a strong advocate for getting a good cost per wear for every item I buy, there are exceptions to every rule. &nbsp;Sometimes I just get it wrong no matter how much thought I put into the purchase. &nbsp;Rather than punishing myself and forcing myself to wear something, and then feel bad about myself, I will get rid of it. &nbsp;This is really hard for me because I have a hard time understanding "sunk costs," but sometimes I manage anyway. &nbsp;</p>
<p>Pale yellows are your color. &nbsp;Seek those out as your "happy" color. &nbsp;</p>
<p>Best wishes. &nbsp;

<p><div>Jenni, you and I both happy you found the earring.&nbsp; I hate to lose anything and never stop looking for it, always hoping it will turn up and it usually does.<br /></div><div>Believe it or not, before you posted I thought about doing one of your habits, ie counting the number of times an item of clothing is worn.&nbsp; I have never done that, but I am thinking about wearing it 30 times and send it on its way to Hades.&nbsp; If I do, I plan to try and wear it at least two times a week for the next 15 weeks.</div><div>Rachy, thanks to you and Jenni for your suggestion to wear a scarf.&nbsp; I really don't utilize scarves as I should.</div><div>Cardiff girl, thank you.&nbsp; I really like your idea of the dark vest and jeans, and since I don't have brown booties I may wear my new leopard print flat shoes.</div><div>Chris,&nbsp; Thank you.&nbsp; You surely have the right ideas on how to wear mustard.&nbsp; I love your finds.&nbsp; Most all my tops have a v neck.&nbsp; If the sweatshirt had&nbsp; a v neck I probably would like it somewhat better, being able to wear a blue, navy, or white (just maybe fuchsia) tee under it.&nbsp; Oh well, what is, is or so I have heard. <br /></div><div>Sterling, you have seen the problem so clearly.&nbsp; I am amazed!</div><div>I am also amazed&nbsp; that the sweatshirt looks exactly .the same on me as it does the model and to my eye that is hideous. When I shop, I don't have in mind that anything will look the same on me as the model, and don't expect it to, but keep in mind how it will fit and drape to my body.&nbsp; Don't know if any of this makes sense. Anyway, if I had thought it would look on me as the model I would have never ordered it and certainly should have returned it.&nbsp; <br /></div><div>You are absolutely right that there is too much fabric.&nbsp; The sweatshirt makes me look long waisted, whereas I am very short waisted.</div><div>LOL, never in my life have I heard anyone trying to change short or long waistedness, but now I guess it can be done.&nbsp; Just being silly. <br /></div><div>Sterling, thank you sincerely.&nbsp; I know I can count on you for good, sound answers.</div><div>kkards and Chris, yes, Sterling came thru, didn't she.&nbsp; And thanks for your</div><div>suggestions also. kkards, I hate to say, but I am not a crafty person. :)<br /></div><div>Bennett, thank you.&nbsp; yeah I am getting fed up.&nbsp; Actually, a pale yellow or lemon yellow I like. I&nbsp; have to add this, About 2 or 3 years ago, when</div><div> lemon printed clothes started trending, my grandaughter saw a blouse at T.J Maxx and highly suggested I try it.&nbsp; I did, I loved it, bought it and wore it to my next Dr's appointment.&nbsp; The male Dr. complemented me on it.&nbsp; Wow, do I love that color yellow and the blouse. :)</div><div>nuancedream, that is an interesting suggestion.&nbsp; I happen to have a pair of dark plum pants that I do not wear often, but I do like them.&nbsp; I will try the pants and sweatshirt.&nbsp; Thank you.<br /></div><div><br /></div>

<p>Yeah, that looks kind of light and bright to be called mustard. I think of mustard as looking like the Topshop sweater in your post. Plus, it's a lo-o-n-n-ng dose of yellow. Maybe it's just not the color for you, and it's time to move on...

<p>Sterling's posting is spot on! Another suggestion is to add something like a scarf with other colors (and maybe some yellow) to break up the expanse of "spilled mustard", and Angie's dark blue suggestion is great too. If you can find a way to visually break up the expanse maybe you'll wear it more. Another idea is to try some white or light denim bottoms...it might make the whole outfit appear bright which might minimize the "yellow" look.&nbsp;&nbsp;

<p>Hi <b>Bridgie</b> -- I think I see two problems here. &nbsp;The first is that the sweatshirt is not really mustard but more yellow in color. &nbsp;Is it possible that a true mustard reads as Fall, whereas the more yellow doesn't have the same seasonal feel? &nbsp;There are colors I do not reach for in the Fall/Winter because they seem to contrast with the seasonal "mood." &nbsp;This could reflect more of a mindset than a style issue. &nbsp;</p>
<p>The second problem is am seeing is the length of the sweatshirt. &nbsp;It is one sold color that seems to be cut very long. &nbsp;If it were shorter or cropped, you might have been able to do a half tuck to visually break the color up to some degree. &nbsp;</p>
<p>Even if a half tuck will not suit this garment, I do think breaking up the color is the solution. &nbsp;As you start adding things, I want you to consider fit.</p>
<p>Does the sweatshirt fit sleekly or is there excess fabric through the body when you wear it? &nbsp;It might not be the length or the color, it might be that there is excess fabric and that gives a feeling of heaviness. &nbsp;If you start adding things to break up the color, are you adding to the feeling of heaviness? &nbsp;</p>
<p>

<p>I have had a similar feeling about large expanses of mustard yellow. In August I found a gorgeous little mustard yellow bag at Zara that I used almost constantly for the next few weeks. I have not been drawn to it since fall arrived but I'm happy to have it. At the same time also at Zara I found a very inexpensive vneck sweater in mustard yellow that was not so great quality but great for an experiment. It&nbsp;had a very deep vneck so I put a white cami under it.&nbsp;I wore a denim jacket over it and liked the combination of yellow, white, blue. (the cheap knit caught on things so I plan to pass it on) I ordered your first find last week and recently also bought another pullover in a similar color (find #2) Within the next few weeks I'll decide whether to keep the&nbsp;two sweaters, or just one, &nbsp;or return them both&nbsp;due to that "too much mustard yellow" thing you describe. I think I may prefer mustard yellow as more of an accent color,&nbsp;&nbsp;(find #3) than as a color for a larger item.

<p>How about a long silky scarf with the tails worn in front for a little visual relief?</p>
<p>I have to confess that I once had a yellow outfit from Banana Republic. It was very cute. Yellow cardigan, yellow houndstooth skirt, yellow shoes. But I only wore it twice because truth: I don’t like WEARING yellow. I can’t really see it when I’ve got it on. I like looking at other people in yellow. Still, I just didn’t like it. I felt too bright. I finally gave it away.

<p>Hi Bridgie nice to “see” you!<br />
( off topic to your current thread which I will get back to in a moment, I remember you being really nice when I had lost one of my filigree gold earrings that I had bought in Melbourne and thought I had lost one on a shopping trip in a mall. Well, a very long time, months or a year later, my husband found it under a tree in our garden! The tree has mulch around and under it and it is a particular NZ tree called a cabbage tree which has very long pointy leaves which look messy. I must have been picking them up and lost the earring! Yay for a happy ending.)<br />
Regarding your mustard sweatshirt- these are not styling tricks I use personally but many Fabbers do- what about a long statement necklace or a print scarf to break up all that mustard? Some nice scarves with mustard in have been posted lately.

<p>Edited to add the find of the exact sweatshirt I have.&nbsp; I made a post about the same item last year and had forgotten about it.

<p>Oh, Angie, I left out a key word.&nbsp; It is a sweatshirt, not shirt.&nbsp; I wish it was a shirt.&nbsp; I don't think I would have any problem, as I mostly always wear any shirt over something else.&nbsp; Thank you.&nbsp; I am going to try and correct my original post.

<p><b>Bridgie</b>, so it's a solid mustard shirt? And even when you cover it up with a pullover, it's too much mustard? Have you tried cooling the mustard with a dark blue item?&nbsp;

<p>
<div>I have read everything posted on YLF concerning mustard with great interest and hoping to find something that would help with my dilemma.</div><div>So far nothing, so I am making one last effort with this post.</div><div>I have this pretty (I guess it is pretty) mustard sweatshirt from Topshop that I bought at the 2018 NAS.&nbsp; I wore it one time last fall, laundered it and have not worn it since.&nbsp; I think it is good quality, fits fine and the color is a good clear mustard, not muted or dull looking.</div><div>I have tried styling it with an earthtone plaid with mustard, red, tan, berry colored shirt I have and love to wear (with other things).&nbsp; The shirt color shows and the cuffs.&nbsp; I have black pants, brown, rust, neutral, denim, and lighter colors, white, etc.</div><div>The problem, no matter how I style it, when I look in the mirror, I see this excess mustard color up and down my front.&nbsp; Look slike I spilled a gallon or two of mustard on myself.</div><div>Do you have any ideas or thoughts?&nbsp; I will appreciate and entertain any you might send.<br /></div><div>I am sending two finds which I think are probably the same color, but the sweatshirt is brighter and clearer.&nbsp; The color of the first find is closer to mine.<br /></div>
