Win-win. They are both different but great dresses. I love the turquoise one.

(To me the sheer/crossover shoulder detail feels very alluring.)

Thank you so much, ladies! Here's my plan. I will go with the flow tomorrow. If I feel like being bold and trendy, I'll go with the red. If I decide to be more classic, or if this random spurt of full-on summer weather continues, I will wear my turquoise dress that some of you may remember. I can't get fresh pics taken today, but it's in this thread (for those who don't kknow me, I'm the tall one): https://youlookfab.com/welookf.....he-wedding

Not a jewel tone. Too bright and acidic to be a jewel tone.

Michelle, I think this a fun, trendy, daring and alluring dress. Totally date-night worthy. But if you want to look chic - choose another dress.

What Marina said. My hesitation is only because I've worn dresses like this that fit/feel fussy on me, and fidgeting or worrying about my outfit on date night isn't what I want. That is unique to my comfort and my body and this might be slam-dunk easy for you to wear!

I didn't mean #3 is the lesser of three evils. When I say it looks good on you I mean I think it looks good on you :p
I really think people are more concerned about practical issues, not about how it looks. I believe everyone at least once in their lives went on a date gorgeous in a dress/outfit... and then spent half their dates trying to keep the dress in the right place and missed all the fun (and no dress is worthy of it, no matter how good looking it is).

ps.: looks like a vivid watermelon to me (it is a vivid color, but not as bright/intense as a jewel color) - this color works really well for you.

Vix, thank you so, so much for the frank and constructive feedback. I can say that I got someone to check on the sea-through factor of the skirt, and apparently that is not an issue. But I will bear the rest of your comments closely in mind. I'm very grateful for your candour.

I agree 3 is the best look - I like it a lot. It is appropriately sexy for a romantic celebration. If it is comfortable (comfortable enough - it isn't pajamas!) I think you are good to go. But if not, feel free to post other options for us to help with. Congrats on you anniversary and enjoy your evening

Hi Michelle --

While echoing the monitor disclaimer, I'd call the dress Watermelon -- it reads like a deep, bright, coral pink to me. If it helps, it seems to match or tone in with your toenail polish.

Definitely a fun color for this summer-to-fall transition!

Re the fit...it may be the photos, but between the material and the slim fit the skirt does look like it might telegraph any underwear and hosiery through. Not sure how picky you are about that, but wanted to give you a heads-up.

I certainly have a lot more clingy and fitted items than many on YLF so that element doesn't bother me -- especially for a celebratory date! -- but I have to say I've seen you in dresses that were 11 out of 10 in terms of style and conventional flattery and for me this one is mid-range.

However, that is me being in high critique mode and I'm sure your BF will only be focused on the sexy shoulders, legs out etc! Have a great celebration.

Hi Michelle, I see this red as being true--skewing neither warm nor cool. It reads like a bright, but lacks intensity, somehow, and does not give the sense of richness and depth that I feel characterizes a jewel tone. Maybe I also feel that a jewel-tone red would skew to the berry tones a little bit? This could all be attributable to my monitor, though.

Thank you all, ladies. I do sense a little hesitation on this dress, like perhaps option 3 is the lesser of all evils. Am I reading that wrong? If not, I can easily put together another outfit.
Also, a question about the colour. I always thought red was a jewel tone. Am I wrong about this? How would you describe this red shade?

What Jenava said. Another vote for 3 if it passes Angie's suggested walking test. I am used to seeing you in jewel tones so the color was a surprise and lovely on you. A also second Kari's suggestion of a half slip
If the dress clings. Mine is from Target.

I had the same thought as you and Angie, that the drapery top counters the bottom. Do try it with th hose, though, as that could make it creep higher than you like. I love the pretty bright red, too! Congrats on the anniversary!

Angie said it well (and it really does depend on how fussy it feels-if it's distracting and not alluring to you, skip it! If it feels great and stays in place, YAY.)

On me, and this is probably because of my body and how I walk and how crooked I am, I need more fluid fit than this in straight or pencil skirts because they ALWAYS try to travel north to my high natural waist, and I quickly get tired of doing an awkward pull-down-hem dance.

Other ladies wear dresses or skirts like this with ease. Sometimes with the right fit and fabric, I find that a half slip solves the problem for me.

Beautiful color on you, BTW! And happy anniversary!

Michelle, the skirt IS very tight, but the cape does balance things out as you correctly assessed.

My suggestion would be to walk in it WITH the right footwear and Reva, and see how you go. Tube skirts at this length and shorter have an awful habit of creeping up as you stride, and they cling onto hosiery. If that's all doable - I vote FEEL ALLURING, and have a beautiful anniversary night with your man in this statement frock.

Hello lovely ladies! I come to you today with a kind of fun project. I have a dress that can be worn in four different ways thanks to some pretty clever designing: as a tube dress (not shown), on-shoulder, off-shoulder, or one-shoulder. My boyfriend and I are preparing to celebrate an anniversary on Saturday, and I figure this dress could make for a fun outfit (though I'm open to reconsidering if you guys don't approve). If I do wear this, which way do you like it best?
I have not fully styled it here, just put on the pearl earrings and cuff I would wear on the night of. I would wear black microfishnets and black pumps to finish out the look and carry a black patent and silver clutch. Very classic accessories, but I figure the more modern styling of the dress is enough to keep things current. Again, please disabuse me of this notion if it proves to be faulty!
So...the different styles:
On-shoulder: warmest. Not a huge priority for me because I run warm, but a perk nonetheless.
Off-shoulder: fun! And trendy. And feels kind of alluring.
One-shoulder: I kind of love this because of the diagonal line down the front. It, too, feels alluring and different. But is it too much?
And in all shots, does the ruched skirt look too tight and body-con or is it balanced out by the cape-like top?

Thank you so much for any feedback! *hugs*
