I bought a pair last summer that did that. I used some leather glue on the offending spot and they were just fine afterwards.

I've had this happen lots, partly because most of my shoes are under $75. I just glue them back, and I'm good. The other suggestion --- a ball of foot insole. I put these in all of my shoes and sandals with a heel. I usually size up slightly to accommodate a slightly wider forefoot and toes that go straight across, instead of taper (bless 'em). The insert makes all the difference in comfort. My foot stays put, and is slightly padded.

I find that super annoying too. A shoemaker may be able to fix it. I have removed the lining and replaced with Foot Petals in certain cases. But most of my shoes are second hand so I go in with the expectation of shoe surgery.

You can buy shoe glue and glue it down yourself. I've done it with shoes that I really like that have become loose due to age.

Janet, maybe another pair (of the same) won't have the same issue? This pair might be defective.

I agree it can happen on any shoe but it's always worst with bare feet inside and when you need to grip to hold the shoe on.

Smittie, this knowledge comes of frustrating experience .It happens to me with pumps, too, because I have to grip so hard to try to hold them on. The insole probably has to be loose to begin with or misplaced, but the gripping makes it more likely to happen.

Actually, this is one of the things this forum is so great for. We really learn about fit/ wear issues that might not have occurred to us and recognize that while not universal, they are often shared. If I weren't on this forum, I'd never have known this happens to anyone else!

Boo. Just when I was thinking these would be really useful for an update to make my cropped pants work. Would love to find another casual, pointed-toe, heeled mule in black with some ventilation (open weave or perforations), now that I've seen how these work so well.

I have had this happen on other kinds of shoes (sandals, loafers), so I agree it's not exclusive to mules -- although I can see how it might be exacerbated by "gripping." Either way, with shoes that one wants to wear without socks or an insole, it's a problem. I think I tried gluing on a pair of sandals once, but it only worked for a short while.

I'm sad to return these, but an annoyance is an annoyance.

Suz, you are a fountain of knowledge. The fact that you can attribute a specific wrinkle type to a specific foot action (over-gripping) is remarkable.

I don't think that's because they are mules - this can happen with any shoe (it used to happen to my Okalas and another pair of ballet flats). It's a quality problem. Insole needs to be glued down PROPERLY. I vote return.

I think this happens more often when your toes are gripping. Which is not a good sign for long term wear! The "grip" may be so slight you don't feel it. But still happening.

OTOH, maybe these are defective, or maybe you can get a cobbler to glue it down?

While on the topic of mules...I'm wearing these mules around the house this morning, evaluating comfort and walkability because I like how they're looking with my cropped pants from the last few years.

One thing is annoying me, and perhaps it's not so hard to solve, so I thought I'd ask here:

The insole at the toe seems a little loose -- it starts to wrinkle up under my toes as I walk around. I can see this becoming a serious annoyance in very short order if I start wearing them outside of the house, where I'll be walking far more. I've had this happen with other shoes before, but I would normally just put a little insole inside to correct the problem. With a mule, one of those insoles would be visible under the back of the foot.

Has anyone successfully conquered the problem of the wrinkling insole?
