I missed this the first time around. I agree with everyone else that it is inspirational. I'm impressed with the weight loss, love the togetherness of you and your husband doing it with each other. I'm also impressed at your restraint in knowing how much is "enough". Even though you were buying more in this post than in the earlier "rules" post, it sounds as if you still were very disciplined in not letting it get out of hand. I find it very difficult to know when it's time to stop buying. If I need one, don't I need a couple, and doesn't "a couple" sometimes mean 3 or 4? You seem to have done admirably well in fending off such thinking!

Stunning. Fascinating story. I am also sharing my story to transform the wearing trends for spring. I am designing some bright and mixed colour schemes with long skirts, heats and small handbags. I am not making them very crowded with stones or laces. I want to make them little simple. Especially, I am designing some dresses for some extra size ladies and switching some soft shapewear inside them to look them more attractive.

Fabulous! The whole story, your discipline, your accomplishments....I'd rather read ONE posting like this than see thousands of ads on TV and FB for weight loss products. Yours is the real deal, and so inspirational! I find it interesting that your weight loss didn't solve your shopping challenges, it just moved you into a different size range. I too need petite clothing but often I find regulars that work and it just means LOTS of try ons. And last but not least you are so wise to treat the cost of all this as an investment in yourself.

Thanks, Sterling and a Barbara Diane. I’m glad these posts have been helpful.

Congratulations, Sterling at maintaining your weight loss for 4 months! I have plateaued at my weight loss goal #1 but am also mindful that I want to slowly lower it, which reminds me to not go crazy in my shopping. I don’t hesitate to purchase items that I think will work at a lower weight. I am also not losing at my previous rate, where clothes would be too big every 6-8 weeks.

Sterling, I have an absolute love of mid-size floral prints :), but you’ll (almost) never see me in stripes, dots, or any angular geometric print. I love their asymmetry and it echos the waves of my hair. This has been a good season for florals. Happy floral print shopping.

I want to second Barbara Diane's comment above. I found your posts incredibly inspiring throughout each phase of my weight loss journey. Your kindness and willingness to share your wisdom was appreciated.

I lost some weight and managed to maintain that weight loss for more than four months. It is now time to resume the effort to lose the last bit of weight. My goal is to break through the next plateau and then maintain. It will be at that point that I will transition to rebuilding my wardrobe. When I reach that phase, I hope I find LOTS of floral prints.

I love the pieces you are adding to your wardrobe (the colors/prints). I am especially enamored with the floral prints. It must be a very exciting time in life to have achieved your most recent goal after much hard work and dedication. To be buying for the body you built must be rewarding. I'll follow with much interest and anticipation.

Thanks, Elizabeth!

Great advice, Karen. I’m the same height as you so it will be interesting to see if I have the same pant length issue. Absolutely seeing smaller weight differences making a clothing size change. Though each pound seems harder to take off, too ;).

Thank you for sharing your process and your thoughtful analysis and congratulations! I have had a smaller but still significant weight loss, and your experience rings true. I am finding some manufacturers regular misses sizes an option for my 5’2” height now that I am in the smaller number sizes. And full length petite pants are almost always too short now. I need to be open to new retailers.

And I find small weight fluctations show up much more quickly, so I am keeping my favorite items in the next size up for when I return from a long trip 5 lbs heavier, I have something I like for the time it takes discipline to return! Especially pants.

Thank you everyone that has commented! I am glad that these
thoughts are helpful to many of you and I appreciate all your support.

Suz, Yes, it was crucial that my husband and I were on the
same path. He is a fantastic life partner in all my goals. He is an especially
awesome exercise training buddy that got me regularly off the sofa. We have
always been active together.

Joy, I am definitely trying to add more cream in my tops to
my wardrobe. I’ve ordered a couple more to try. I have tried cream pants before
and never reach for them, but if I find the right cream/ivory denim skirt I
will definitely try it.

Style Fan, I love dark olive. It brings out the green of my
eyes .

Aida, I agree that we must be kinder to ourselves and that
underlined statement is one of my most important take away’s from this journey.

Lisa p, thank you for thinking that this would be of
interest to a much larger audience. I suspect that I’ll keep it just here, though.

Angie, “logical” is the perfect descriptor for me .
I am a scientist and pattern finder and have been trained to be objective and
to do one’s best to remove oneself from the equation. It is not surprising to me
that I bring those same skills to my wardrobe. There has been a lot of angst,
though, especially about finding the right pieces and knowing where to shop.
Your blog and the forum have been crucial to my shopping research.

Cindysmith, I’m glad that this has given you hope. I had
known for a long time that my weight wasn’t healthy, but I had to be in the
right mindset to tackle this challenging journey. There’s no big secrets. But I
feel much better when I eat healthy, so it is much easier to say no to sugary
foods now. I tried to make only challenges that I felt I could sustain long term.

It's exciting to be moving on to building up your wardrobe. Thanks for sharing your process with us. Those are really great guidelines and it's interesting to see how it shifts when you go from a holding pattern to settling into a new wardrobe.

Great read, thanks for sharing all of your experiences. No new rules makes sense; they were a pretty solid set of rules to begin with. GOOD on you for keeping up with the picky. You deserve stuff that makes you feel your best and sometimes (oftentimes) that takes a while. Experimentation is also really helpful, and especially so as you get used to a new size (though since you went about it slowly perhaps it's less of a shock than it can sometimes be).

I wish more people understood this statement:
Weight loss doesn’t magically solve my shopping challenges. I think it would help many of us be more kind to ourselves!

And of course congrats and way to go :D

Thank you for sharing this Toban. This is a very informative and helpful post. Your clothing pieces are well chosen and work together beautifully. I love that Loft utility jacket.
Olive is such a great colour. So versatile.

Congratulations. You are being very smart about your wardrobe rebuilding. I like your choices very much. Choosing a color pallet or two that you love is key. You may want to add a light neutral color. It looks like cream or a light grey would go with the pieces you have. Navy is good year round.
