Ooooh, here are some outfits of the character Lily from Gossip Girl. I really love her style, although it's very different from my own.

And... since I'm watching it right now... I am inspired every time I watch "Project Runway." I love watching young designers at work and even when they create disgusting failures, it gives me a thrill to see the creative process.

OOoh - I was just thinking about this today so felt the need to revive this old topic. For me, there are too many to list here. But a few include:
1. High Society (Grace Kelly, Frank Sinatra, etc) - Grace pulls off the always-chic WASP billionaire look as Ralph Lauren only wishes he could!
http://www.vintageculture.net/.....916947.jpg
2. The remade Thomas Crown Affair - while in many ways not as good a film as the original, the mature (in Hollywood terms: she was over 35!) Rene Russo totally rocked Michael Kors throughout in ways that were constantly both sexy and intelligent.
http://tv.burrp.com/images/s/j....._2_300.jpg
3. Not movie but the I love seeing the clothes on the otherwise unremarkable show Gossip Girl. The younger characters dress in fun fashion but I also enjoy seeing the wardrobe of the adult characters, like that of "Lily Van Der Woodsen"
http://media.onsugar.com/files.....zUwHHj.jpg

I actually usually find the interior design of films more inspiring than the fashion.

I always loved Katherine Hepburn, and in her movies from the 40's, her clothes always had such style while looking easy. Something about the drape- everything drapes so perfectly! I love Audrey too, and the simple lines of her sixties dresses.

I'm noticing, from choosing these two, I really like simple, easy clothes.

Oh, fun post! I'm another Audrey fan, but my favourite is Funny Face- probably because there's just so much fashion in that movie!

Kristen, it's so funny that you mentioned Baby Boom, it's one of my favourite obscure movies. Nobody my age has ever heard of it, but for some reason I just love it. I think Diane Keaton rocks no matter what she wears. I would never wear the same things as she does, but on her it looks right. I like that she's an individual.

I'll second Mad Men, especially for interiors. I love me some mcm.

My style influences tend to be more subtle and random when it comes to movies, and probably hinge more on the movie than the fashion. For instance, my favourite movie growing up was The Sound of Music, and to this day I love anything that looks like it belongs in that film. That goes for 30's-style day dresses, florals that look like they might have once been curtains, and that whole soft, muted palette that the film is shot in. My sister always teases me for this, she calls it "the Liesl factor".

Not a movie, and definitely a cliche, but SATC is a big one for me, too. It was big during late high school/early university for me, and was a huge influence on how I played around with my look at that time. I love catching old episodes on late-night TV here. Sometimes Carrie looks amazing, and sometimes she looks ridiculous, but it's always fun.

I'll add Madmen from a style AND interior design point of view sans all the real fur. And the main bloke "Donald Draper" is my next TV boyfriend.

Hi Mattie! Great question. We also talked about this some time ago at this thread
http://youlookfab.com/welookfa.....replies=29

I think I'm going to reread it actually.

I also like The Thin Man films and Hitchcock's work from the 50s and 60s. Lots of great outfits.

Many of the outfits are dated now, but I just love Diane Keaton's style in Baby Boom. The way she wore her camel coat in the winter, all those power suits and heels and yet she completely looked like Diane Keaton in all of them...it just worked. I actually prefer her look in that over Annie Hall.

Something about women in French movies always grabs me. I remember being totally enchanted with Catherine Deneuve's colorful dress wardrobe in The Umbrellas of Cherbourg. Anna Karina is always stunning. Jeanne Moreau too.

Even though I absolutely hated the clunky shoes she wore for the entire film, I otherwise loved Audrey Tautou's entire look in Amelie. I have been looking for years for this little red sweater jacket thing she wears. And nothing in the world beats her adorable flippy bob.

I know everyone is into Audrey Hepburn's glamorous B@T wardrobe, but I am more fond of her Charade wardrobe, and her makeup and hair in How to Steal a Million (more 60's).

I guess none (or few) of these examples are genuine inspiration since I do not really try to emulate any of these looks, but I enjoy them regardless.

The favorite decade/Twiggy post made me wonder, what are your favorite movies, old or new, that inspire your style? One that comes to mind is Vertigo, I love how they make Kim Novak two characters just with clothes & make up. Oh and the Thin Man movies. I'm sure I'll come up with more. Your turn.
