I found out today ours is closing to. There are others here in town and I don't think any of them are closing. I am sad because the store was so close to me but I will have to branch out.

I almost never paid shipping because I would order the minimum. At fist it was a workaround and then just necessary because I couldn't predict my size.
I still often bought in store because they'd run 40-5o% off often enough that I could just get a single item, whereas I would not do that online. Also I like to check out the fabrications IRL.
I will likely still look online at skirts and curvy pants if they keep the fit the same, because usually either my regular size fits or the item just doesn't get me. But it would move me more toward some kind of semi- annual or quarterly AT- try-on for business wear, since I would now have to pay $9 or so to ship back. And I would be
less likely to try tops & sweaters.

Time to branch out anyway!

Unfrumped - sorry to hear it. I used to buy my entire wardrobe, for the most part, from AT. In the last 10 yr we've parted ways, they changed their fit model and outlook. But in the last year, I found some really nice pieces - the snow leopard coat particularly. If you know your size well enough, at least there is online (sorry I know that is cold comfort). Everything good goes away, I know it's not true, but something it feels that way. Here's hoping they reopen somewhere that is still close to you!!

I'm with Suz, maybe they'll have some really good inventory reduction sales before they close!

The Forbes story that annagybe shared reminds me that the Ann Taylor stores around here are so weird. One, in the rich suburb mall, moved to temporary digs and then opened a new bigger store which I think is one of the concept stores they mention in the article. It's big and has lots of stock but the layout is awkward and they always have a ton of mega-clearance stuff on the second floor, which seems counter to the high-end image they were otherwise aiming for (does it all come from that store or is it brought in from other stores, dunno?). The store in the slightly less swanky mall is small and always very bare, with a lot of suiting and very little for business casual or smart casual, which is how 90% of people dress around here. The store in the other big mall is also very suit-oriented and I see a lot more people buying stuff at Loft than AT proper. Talbots beats them both, as far as selection and quality for the price, it just is aimed at an older customer.

tl;dr I have a lot of Ann Taylor stuff, but almost all of it was bought online or at the Factory Store. I find the Loft mall stores much more apt to have something I want to buy, but never buy from Loft online because their prices seem much higher than the B&M stores, or at least they have less sales. I find their brand 'statements', or whatever you call them, very inconsistent across stores (even in the same geographic region) and between stores and online. I think it's strange.

Oh no! I've never had one and their shipping costs are outrageous but I am sure the loss of a staple store is painful.

I thought I posted this already--but it disappeared, I think I must not have clicked right.

The Ann Taylor store here is closing in a month!

Oh my--"challenge and opportunity" for my wardrobe, no doubt.

Anybody else's AT going out of business as brick & mortar?
