At the wedding rehearsal for our grandson in late August the wedding planner gave some advice to the women in the wedding party who might be wearing spiky or high heels (we had to walk over grass for a ways to get to the wedding site.) She said to walk on the balls of your feet so that the heels don't sink in.

Of course at the actual wedding I totally forgot this advice. I wasn't wearing spikes, but higher heels than I usually wear and I had no problems, but maybe I was subconsciously aware of her advice. She also warned us that the problem would be worse if forecast thundershowers appeared. They did not, thank goodness.

Something for you to keep in mind if you do wear heels.

As to your gold zipper I'd say it depends on the gray--is it a warm gray or a cool gray? Of course, if the zipper is covered by a wrap, it won't matter as much. I'd say test the shoe color with the zipper color if you can.

Wow! Thanks so much for all of the kind words and suggestions!
I am definitely looking for a small wedge or chunky heel since the wedding will be outside! The tent will be heated, but the dress has short, cap sleeves, so some sort of wrap will be in order. The dress is solid, and very simple. I need to get a clutch - I don"t think I will be the keeper of much except for tissues for me - I'm a weepy cryer!
The zipper in the back is exposed and is a gold/bronze - I'd like to still pull off the grey shoes -what do you think?

Congratulations--hope you will have a very happy, proud day.

What clearlyclaire said, and Meredith re: shoes.
Shoes are so personal re: degree of fussy feet, but outdoors, spiky heels can be a problem even if you're a good heel-wearer. So if you like a heel, a more stable heel could be best, if the setting is "rustic".
What is time of day and temp? Is your dress warm/sleeved so you won't need a topper, or do you need to plan for a stylish wrap or jacket? That's always an issue for me since I run cold--dress + cool temps = not stand alone for me.
As MOB are you expected to be the "keeper" of all sorts of things like tissues, bobby pins, random cell phones? I managed with a somewhat expandable clutch bag but you may need something else.
Jewelry would be simple, I think, according to the dress and your preferences. Is it a necklace-loving neckline, or do you focus on earrings? Think about how you want to appear in the wedding photos. Wouldn't do a lot of jangly wrist bangles as they tend to get in the way, but a fitted cuff is great if that's your best focus.

I would consider flats or wedges. Or at the very least a chunky heel. I just attended an outdoor wedding yesterday and wore kitten heels. I spent the evening aerating the lawn with my shoes.

All the best for being the mother of the bride!! I think the smoky/grey pantyhose suggestions should work.

Welcome bjfoster, and congratulations on the happy event. Your wine dress sounds lovely and will fit right in with the season!

What is your climate like? Will the tent be heated?

A grey suede shoe could be lovely -- or a pewter metallic.

Is your dress sleeved? Do you need a topper?

If you don't want to wear nude hose, then how about pale grey?

Hi there, and welcome. Your dress sounds very pretty. With a dark grey shoe you could wear very sheer, smoke colored hose. If the dress is plain or solid and you want to add some texture, there are beautiful patterned tights and hose that are very popular. A lot of forum members wear the brand Hue, which are available at Nordstrom.

Hi All!
I am brand new to this site and would love your input/expertise/suggestions!
My daughter is getting married on 10/18! I finally have my dress - very simple, knee length, wine colored, and most importantly comfortable!
The wedding is not terribly formal, and will be outside with the reception in a tented space. I am not a fashionista by any stretch, and need some help with suggestions for shoes, hose/tights, and jewelry.
I am thinking a dark gray shoe - possible suede or wool - with a bit of a heel.
Would that work? What would you suggest for leg covering? I am not a fan of nude/sheer pantyhose.......!
