My Mother passed away 5 years ago I find it sad not being able to send her gifts or a card anymore.<br />My kids won't be home, my daughter has her LCSW exam in two weeks and lives 2.5 hours away and my son moved on Friday so is trying to get settled he's also 2.5 hours away. I saw him on Friday as I helped him move. Oldest son lives 15 mins away he may stop in. I got to set the agenda for the day, so I chose a walk around an urban park with several art installations and a view of the skyline, followed by exploring Chinatown, and then our first restaurant dinner in over a year (we’re all fully vaccinated as of this weekend, but chose to sit outside). It was a lovely and near-normal day. </p> <p>Tomorrow, we’ll call my husband’s mom (mine passed away in 2016), smoke some salmon, and watch the Sounders on tv. DH’s mother is 84 and we may need to visit her and her 90 year old DH. She “doesn’t like” Mother’s Day cards/prezzies she claims-“overly commercial”- so I don’t do those. I have no idea what if anything my 3 kids will do for me. I will be happy with a special hug. More would be nice but oh well. Our Sundays are very busy and this weekend I am at a conference Friday night and all Saturday. </p> <p>My mum is coming for afternoon tea for which will try to make scones. DH is planning to see his on Friday. </p> <p>We don't tend to do big presents so I may just buy mum some chocolate ginger. </p> <p>Much harder is me trying to sus out and plan if my kids are planning anything and how that will fit in. Mother’s Day is a day I think about her and get lots of love from DH, my son and dog Margot. My Mum was so much fun, so I have lots of happy memories of her, it is not a sad day, even though I miss her. Mum loved champagne, so I will have a glass of champagne as a special treat and think of her.</p> <p>My boys usually pop out first thing in the morning and buy me fresh flowers chosen by my son. With covid restrictions, we will probably play it safe and stay home this year. Usually we would go out for a very casual lunch. DH is a great cook, so I am sure that he will cook me up some yummy food, something healthy and delicious. I have heard of people who do things for mothers of their grandchildren, and some people recognize aunties and such. </p>
