Okay, join the list of people who impress me! I have yet to do a capsule of any kind. I agree that shoes punch up everything (or in my case, boots!).

All your work and thought put into your capsule is so impressive. For a topper, have you tried knit jackets? They are as comfortable as a cardigan but with more polish. Burgundy looks like it would fit well I to your capsule.
If you want to change things just a bit, you might add or switch out a plain tee for a favorite graphic tee. When making my capsule I found that Angie was brilliant in suggesting a variety of types of tops as well as in other pieces, and that is key for me to keep from getting bored.
With that in mind you could make one of the buttondowns a silky shirt and/ or one of the tees an oversized silky tee. For easy care it could be polyester, rayon, nylon or a blend that is machine washable.
I especially like your white tee, striped tee and brightest blue shirt. Great job!

Ironically, I have a large scarf collection. I find them at thrift stores for a quarter. Perhaps I need to practice with them and just get used to them. Awhile ago, I pinned this way to tie them http://www.pinterest.com/pin/243405554833776655/
I also like to wear them in my hair to keep it off of my face. I'll practice with some. (I cut off my head in the pics because I knew pulling everything over my head made the curls wild). Thanks for the suggestions!

Any kind of patterned belt or shoes would kick it up a notch, for sure. And I second Mary's scarf tying suggestion. I have to wear scarves more than I would like (simply for warmth where i live) and I always use that method. I don't care for dangling ends either practically or aesthetically.

I think you're succeeding in your goal to look classic and comfortable!

What a great casual capsule! I think you have done a fabulous job of seeing how your pieces work together. That was a big inspiration for me too. I think your tops are good--the only one I would consider replacing is the elbow length button down--as a topper and a jacket. To my eye, that top lacks fluidity. The grey button down seems to work better as a top and topper. The BF cardigan is great and works in all variations. Love the BF jeans on you. I could definitely see those with the desert bootie wedge.

I love Wendi's idea about a leopard belt. I think that would be a fun way to add a little interest. A watch would work too. I know you don't like fussy so I won't even suggest a scarf :)

Excellent job! If scarves always seem to be in the way, have you tried the infinity or circle type? Looped twice, they are higher and don't flop about. Otherwise, I'd suggest a statement necklace in a fun accent color. Or maybe you'd like to wear a colorful watch, or carry a colorful or printed bag. You can tell I love color, right? I'd have to mix things up and play around. How about a leopard belt?

I like it. Clean, neat, up-to-date. My thought to kick things up a notch were add a funky shoe. A bright coloured kick or a moto boot... and reading back up, I see you have Clarks wedge bootie in mind. I think that would be a great addition.

p.s. I like that outfit in your post, MaryK.

Wow-zers!! You really know how to make an entrance!!

This is, like, the perfect MOTG capsule! You are one fast learner and you look fab in each and every outfit!

I was going to suggest adding a scarf or two, then I saw you aren't fond of them. You might want to experiment with tying them in one of the newer "messy and higher" styles so you don't have the ends dangling in your way. Here's an example below, with directions here: http://theperpetualstudentswif.....l/How%20To.

If you type "how to tie a scarf" into Pinterest, you will get tons of other ideas.

Thanks for your thoughts. I'll add mine and answer Suz's questions.
I mostly wear t-shirts and jeans. I love the Autumn layer look, but can only wear it for about 4 months out of the year. When it does cool down, I like to add 3/4 sleeve tees and cardigans. Long sleeves tend to get in my way and I'm petite, so they're always long. I really like the 3/4 sleeve navy cardigan and feel comfortable in it. I didn't really like the way the button-down shirts layered under the cardigans. I'm don't really think the button-downs over a t-shirt worked very well, but I like them well enough on their own.
I would like to look casual and classic and feel comfortable. I like the look of scarves, but find them annoying because they are always in the way. Maybe I just need to practice with them. I think maybe a necklace would add some polish without adding another layer.

Caro, I would like to add a fluid, v-neck boyfriend sweater (burgundy, with side-vents, I've thought this one out). I don't really care for the look of booties, I feel like they truncate my already short legs. I was considering a lace-up wedge, because I thought the laces would lead the eyes and make a longer line. (Do booties need to extend above the ankle, because I would be okay with the look if it was a heeled oxford or something, but that's not a bootie, is it?)
I would like to add a navy cropped blazer (with pinstripe lining on the sleeves). I thought doing this exercise would help in the decision process of what to buy. I would also like a pair of navy chinos, however, I like how the gray chinos gave the outfits a different feel from the jeans.
I'm also not sure if I like the loafers with the black jeans. And I'm surprised how much I like them with the boyfriend jeans.
I have several capsules I've written out on paper (lots of time waiting in the car). I just need to find time to try everything on. And take pictures for feedback. I hadn't thought about it being a WIW and trying out a capsule one day at a time.
I'm not ready to tackle the Church Capsule yet. I think I need some tweaking here. Thanks for the feedback.

I'm impressed - such a great effort. I think answering Suz's questions would be a great place to start. What would you like to add to this? What kind of clothing, footwear are you drawn to right now? My picks would be a fluid knit & a pair of booties & maybe a jacket of some kind, but they are only my picks

Welcome to the wonderful world of WIWs -- and what a place to jump in. WOW, I don't know of anyone who has been that ambitious to start -- a whole capsule. You are one brave woman.

I also know the challenges of lighting. It will get easier as you practice. Even then, the light can play tricks with us at this time of year. I've been having a ton of problems getting it bright enough in my own pics.

Also laughing about your practice for the church capsule!

This looks like a really good work at home / stay at home casual capsule. How did you feel about it? My overall impression is practical, casual, classic, mostly neutral. If you wore that, would you feel happy, comfortable, bored, excited? Etc. Answering those questions will help take you towards your style goals.

My favourites are #1 in photo 1 and #2 in photo 2. I am not as big a fan of the shirts used as toppers. But I do understand the appeal if it is still hot where you are.

It's quite a process, isn't it?

In an effort to better understand how my individual pieces work together, I decided to create a capsule. I wanted to do this before I bought anything new for Fall. This is my first attempt at a capsule. I simply followed Angie's formula.
I chose six toppers
1- Plain white tee
2- Jade v-neck tee
3- Gray/blue stripe v/neck tee
4-blue/white stripe tee
5- 3/4 sleeve chambray button down
6- long sleeve gray button down
Then I chose three bottoms
1- Slim fit boyfriend jeans
2- straight leg black jeans
3- gray chinos
Two toppers (it's still really hot here, so these are lightweight)
1-gray boyfriend cardigan
2- navy cardigan
I thought I could try using the button-down shirts as toppers until it cools off more.
*threw in a gray cargo jacket in case a cold front moves through
Two pairs of shoes
1- gray ballet flats
2- navy loafers (chosen to incorporate a Fall trend)
If I were to buy new shoes, I was considering an on-trend (?) wedge desert boot, like these http://www.amazon.com/Clarks-W.....TF8&q
I spent a lot of time taking pictures and they are not great. If I tried to redo them, it would never happen. I hope you can judge the outfits with the imperfect lighting. Next time, I'll use a flash.
I would welcome any suggestions. In doing this, I had a few hesitations and questions. What do you think?
My husband laughs at me on Sunday mornings because I change my clothes three times before church. This was the easy capsule. This is practice for a "Church Capsule". Thanks for your help.
