These areas are quite conservative and we kept our shoulders and knees covered most of the time. The food was delicious, especially the Tagine. In most restaurants there was a separate dining room for women and children. We hired a local guide in Marrakech and he helped haggle in the market place. The rugs are gorgeous and our guide was an expert at spotting quality. There was an office on the edge of town that did international shipping on items to big to carry home. In addition to rugs, the silver jewelry is beautiful and the textiles are amazing. It was exactly what I was expecting. Children playing ball in the narrow streets, commerce everywhere, performers with snakes, etc in the public areas. Be sure to go in any open doorway that looks interesting. You'll be amazed how large the shops are once you get inside. The rugs are beautiful. I looked but didn't buy. It was fascinating to watch them weave. Eat lots of amazing food. Keep some wet wipes or something with you because your hands will be your utensils much of the time! If you have a chance, ride a camel. (Careful where you step...lots of yellow puddles ) Also, if you have an afternoon free, take the ferry back and forth across the Strait of Gibraltar to Spain. Excellent trip at sunrise or sunset. You'll want your camera for this one. I have always wanted to go to Morocco. I have thought a little about what I will need for this trip and agree some yoga clothes as well as light modest clothing that covers shoulders and knees. Looking forward to your follow up report as it will be very helpful. My husband will be coming along and he is more interested in photographing the sights! It's a trip organized by my yoga instructor, so I'm letting go of my usual control freak tendencies and going with all the arrangements she made. We will have yoga every day, but lots of other activities planned too -- a spa experience, possible cooking classes, and of course shopping in the markets. I'm taking a bare bones camera and single lens setup with me (no laptop though), since photography isn't my primary goal, but I hope to get some good shots.</p> <p>I plan on mostly packing and wearing gear -- yoga clothes of course, but also a pair of capris, a pair of travel pants, some easy long skirts, and plain tees, plus my most comfortable sandals and a pair of sneakers.&nbsp;</p> <p>One of my goals is to shop for a new rug for our bedroom. I have a budget, size, and color scheme in mind, and I've done a little research on haggling and buying rugs in Morocco, so I think I'm ready.&nbsp;</p> <p>Anyone been there? Any advice or recommendations to share? I'm not sure how much unstructured time we'll have, but I welcome suggestions if you have any. Bonus if you've shopped for a rug there! </p>
