Thanks again for your comments, all! Jules these are all great ideas and I'll definitely be sporting fair isle socks + clogs + jeans when the weather cools. Zaeobi, more great inspo from you! I am actually wearing overalls + headscarf today per your previous prompt -- pictures TK. I really appreciate the support, Jaime and Bijou! And SF, YES, you read my mind, winter version definitely in corduroy.

Ok, I *adore* the overalls and clogs on you! And don’t find it unflattering at all. Could you maybe work the gingham shirt into an outfit with those pieces?

When pattern mixing with the gingham, I do find it looks more intentional to my eye when worn tied at the waist. I love your unexpected choices though, you have great wardrobe items for playing around with different ideas.

I love the sock and clog combo, but think I would prefer it with a neutral outfit in thicker fall fabrics. Rolled jeans and a flannel top?

Another Cappy chiming in here to say I love the dungarees - & goats! Harbour seals + goats is just further evidence of the 'sea goat' symbol for the Capricorn sign, haha

You could easily be a Seasalt model with the way you wear them with those clogs!
https://www.seasaltcornwall.co.....-dungarees
(Not to enable you further or anything, but they have dungaree dresses too !)

PS - I suspect this 'jumpsuit' doesn't give you many bathroom issues because it's sleeveless - just a tip, because I find it much harder to shrug one off if it has sleeves.

Blue skirt outfits are fab too. You make summer dressing look effortless and those clogs--what's not to love both with and without socks!

rachylou thanks! I am buoyed by your kind words!

JAileen, yes, we can enjoy things on others that we wouldn't prefer for ourselves, I get it. If I'm being honest I think that bright aqua band on the socks is bugging me a bit, I might pick a pair with lower value contrast next time.

suntiger, it can be hard for us duplicators to resist our nature! But sometimes warranted...

Suz, ha on the astrology! I'm a cuspy Sagittarius but maybe there is Capricorn in there somewhere. Now how do we explain my affinity for harbor seals?

SarahDB, and are you a Capricorn, too? (The Goats.) If not, maybe there is a prominent planet in Capricorn. ;)

Either way, I envy your ability not to overheat in cashmere! I wish it were not an issue for me. I have to wait until it's quite cold to feel comfy in it and in our climate, that doesn't happen much. Though I admit, a cardi is much easier than a pullover from that perspective and for that reason I wear my cashmere cardigan a LOT compared to my pullovers. In a way it is okay -- I'm just not replacing my cashmere pullovers from Ontario and they are still in pretty good shape, so they are there for me, whenever I'm ready.

If I go for overalls, I will certainly let you know!

Suz, ooh, would love to see you in overalls if you try them! I've found the bathroom issue less of a PITA than I would have thought (esp because, with working from home I don't have the public restroom situation to contend with). The Aran cardi + paisley sundress combo will have a brief window for wear, to be sure. I find that (1) a cotton dress that is long, and lined, offers breeziness in the heat but more insulation than one might expect in cooler weather, and (2) a heavier cardi is a useful thing once the mornings and evenings turn crisp in our climate. So I do think there's a place for an outfit like this. My cardi is cashmere, and most cashmere is non-itchy for me even in warmer temperatures. (Actually, I also find it surprisingly breathable -- I don't tend to overheat in it the way I do in other fibers.) What can I say, I've had a special relationship with goats since I was a very small child (around age 4 I had a herd of goats as my imaginary friends).

April yay for overalls, all of the waist comfort of a sundress...but it's pants!

Angie thanks for the positive words! I'm especially tickled that you liked the embroidered dress/gingham shirt outfit so well -- I wore it 2 days in a row while racing to meet a work deadline so I was very much in utilitarian mode, glad to know I looked stylish even so! And ok -- I will continue to experiment with fair isle socks + clogs. In general brown is an unfortunate color next to my face but I do have one camel cardi that I could try. Or could also sub in my navy clogs for more of a monochrome look.

Cardiff girl, great suggestions! I do have a white linen button-up I can wear as a topper. Will give the shirt-under-dungarees look a try too. So far I have preferred a cardi over to long sleeves under (I tried with a Breton tee underneath and felt like Where's Waldo iykwim) but always good to keep experimenting.

Especially chuffed to see so many positive responses to the overalls/dungarees here!

Oooh, I love the overalls! Those are great. I have been considering a pair for WFH and my only real hesitation is the bathroom issue. But I love the idea of a "work suit" which is what Jenn has created (not necessarily with overalls but with similar separates).

The gingham top works so well with those dresses! Glad you rescued it and are using it as a topper with them.

Is the Aran cardi a comfortable weight to wear with a cotton dress? I sometimes struggle with that...or the itch factor. (I don't find wools itchy in cooler weather but in heat or especially humidity, I can't wear them, esp. cashmere but regular wool as well.)

The colour looks great with the paisley dress, regardless.

Some outfits from last week. Continuing my structured experiments with my summer wardrobe — the brief here was “wear the tops that haven’t yet seen an outing,” although you’ll also see some follow-up based on our discussion of my last set of outfits. (Next up is playing with jewelry/accessories, per Brooklyn's guidance.)

1-2: Using LaPed’s black bralette trick to make a sheer white top more wearable. What would we call this style? Victorian French Girl? Lol, or should I say Oolala. Anyway, I did wear this out in public and did not get arrested or even looked at funny. I’m glad I gave it a go, but personally I think I’d feel more comfortable with that underlayer/lightweight woven camisole strategy (which I’m working on carrying out). I do like the top/skirt combo and am pleased with the other elements of the outfit.

3: Another embroidered white top that is, you guessed it, too sheer on its own but works great under these linen-cotton overalls — speaking of new silhouettes for me. I know the overalls are not the most conventionally flattering garment ever but they’re super comfy and I enjoy the insouciance. Thinking about obtaining a version in more substantial fabric for colder weather.

4: Proof of Suz’s principle that pattern makes lightweight cotton appear less sheer/more wearable.

5: Ok, based on everybody’s feedback (see? I do listen to the forum!) my gingham button-up has gotten a reprieve and I’ve been experimenting to see what other sundresses it works with. I am enjoying it as a topper as a change from my usual short-sleeve/3/4-sleeve lightweight cardis in the hot weather we’ve been having in Seattle.

6-7: If I’m being honest, I am mostly wearing the gingham shirt open rather than knotted under the bustline, it’s just more comfortable for working from home. Although I am an incorrigible duplicator, I am resisting the urge to obtain another similar lightweight button-up to wear as a summer second layer. Embracing the Power of One here.

8-9: One more wacky pattern mix. The top is boho and the skirt is cottagecore, yet they’re both florals and share a lot of the same colors. I am surprised to think that it kind of works, but if you think it kind of doesn’t be honest, I can take it. Pattern-mixing aside, this is maybe on the edge of too sweet for my taste, but the casual tennies keep it just this side of the line.

10: A bit of looking ahead to cooler weather. On my previous WIW thread, slim cat suggested pairing my paisley sundress with a jean jacket for early fall. I don’t own a jean jacket, but in thinking through alternatives I realized that that my navy Aran cardi is *my* version of a jean jacket (goes-with-anything blue; cropped, boxy cut; collar for structure at the neckline: check, check, and check). That was an exciting realization because I think it will help me wear this piece in a more deliberate way in the future! Anyway, here is the result. The bare feet + clogs version seems like a no-brainer to me…

11-13: …but speaking of fair isle socks, what do we think of the socks? (I am just thinking of weather/temperature-related practicalities here.) Yes, No, or Maybe socks but not these exact ones?

As always, thank you for looking and I’m grateful for any observations or suggestions you would like to share!
