No no, no worries, Gaylene, loved your comments, your observations are always on point and "speak" to me; and I was looking for the nod of approval, clearly liked getting that, so, really, I'm ambivalent, at times, about all of it, I vacillate between, oh, found my perfect whatever, and, really, who cares? And, I appreciated your reminding that it's better to use dated/not on-trend because that was probably more to the point, as in, these shoes look good to me, but do they look like I pulled them out of the attic. Hence trying to be a bit tongue-in-cheek regarding fr---y. Or even, as Rubygirl noted, the whole outfit matters, as in, here, I'm gonna wear these shoes, what are the best other items I could use to make them more than just okay. Somehow am trying to find the fun in all of it.

Anyway, everyone's comments are so much appreciated; it is a true testament to this great community's trying to help each other in so many ways, support for style, support to focus on things other than style, trends and anti-trends, encouragement, humor, whatever is needed.

Oops, I apologize if my comment was over the top.

I guess what I was responding to was my interpretation that you were wondering if opting for a comfortable shoe might be seen as compromising your style goals. I suspect that the "right" balance between comfort and style is different for each of us, as is the degree of searching each of us is willing to do to find the "right" item. I didn't realize you were looking for suggestions and alternatives. Sorry.

Thanks for support!
I didn't mean to sound so clueless or at the mercy of fashion dictators, or that I would call someone else frumpy, or kill my feet.
I really was trying to think about how I sometimes wonder if I should get item A or hold out for something similar, is there something comfortable but even more stylish, because I am not a huge on-line shopper, do not comb the 'net for every possible option, so realize that "my" shoes may be out there somewhere but only if I put in more effort, which I've limited. Or to just get a reasonable option and be happy with that. So it can be helpful to get (gentle) feedback on other options, or try these if you like those, kind of thing.

I'm really getting tired of people who throw that "frumpy" label around when something does not align with their particular taste. I've noticed that Angie will refer to something as "dated", or not "on trend", which is a more factual description.

Those espadrilles are CURRENT, "on trend", worked with your outfit, and fufilled your requirements for comfort. To me, that is a winning combination and that another woman would have preferred a 5" stiletto with a pointed toe is irrelevant. To each her own.

Thanks for street style links! At some point I will try to show the actual outfit, it was cobbled together but I hope it worked.

Now the scary question:
1) Should I duplicate ( was eyeing the black and the silver, though the silver would really risk being over-duped, it's in my color palette but I could usually steer to the gold, which is kind of greeny-gold linen rather than super-gold, for summer)
2) Whoa Nellie, I'll just be splitting wears or over-expanding casual dress capsule, enjoy these and fill some other niche with another style, maybe something even better.

I think those shoes are super cute and I actually contemplated getting a very similar pair at the beginning of the summer. I decided I had enough sandals and really couldn't justify another pair. My shoes are all comfortable for the purpose I bought them. I sit at a computer for most of the day so I don't need to walk miles in my pumps. But my casual weekend shoes do need to be comfortable enough for lots of walking.

*sigh* if there is anything I have learned from participation in this forum, it is how very important shoes are to the overall look of an outfit. That said, I am passionate in my refusal to wear uncomfortable shoes. There is nothing that disappoints me more than when shoes that feel good in the store turn out to pinch over the day.

Good find with the espadrilles, especially the golden ones. I think they will be great for a wedding, especially with bare legs. What will be key to a 'fashionable' presentation will be the rest of your outfit and whether the footwear are a purposeful component.

Check Pinterest, typing in 'espadrille style' and you will get a lot of street style fashion picks that will give you ideas.

Well, you did it! They are very cute, on trend summer shoes, and it's awesome that they are super comfortable besides.

I can't and won't tolerate uncomfortable footwear. I am not willing to take any chance of permanently compromising my feet--goodness knows enough goes wrong physically as we age, without my helping the process along!

We are fortunate to live at a time when it's actually possible to find shoes that are both comfortable and on trend. I remember the types of shoes my grandmother wore later in life--there was nothing stylish about them--they were chunky, black shoes, but they were her only option to get the foot support she needed.

These shoes look lovely to me, and I'm guessing that you will wear them stylishly. I decided a few years ago that the look of pain on my face when wearing uncomfortable shoes was less stylish than a smile while wearing comfortable shoes. After all, our smiles are what people look at before they look down at our shoes.

It's a happy marriage when comfort and style mix in a shoe. I try to buy based on comfort at this point.

The exception for me are the Okala calf hair shoes that Angie just wore to her High Tea. I love them, but they don't love me back. Half a work day is at the top of my limit, then I have to switch to something else as my toes can't stand it. Funny how they don't pinch at all when I put them on in the morning.

Okay, yay for supporters. I run with that!
It's helpful, though, because it does help with the ongoing separation of wheat from caff. yes, they're casual and fun. Not cocktail party. But if reminds me I can steer my summer wardrobe ( insofar as that exists) toward outfits that
work with this shoe and or similarly " functional" shoes in future. Along the lines of dressing for your real life and your real feet!
Thanks , Suz, for your observation, as I also hoped they looked slightly refined for their style, and that was an element that worked as a bridge. I have some comfortable casual Naya leather wedge sandals I had expected to wear, they're not even super- casual or gear, but something about the raw leather edges and straps did not look as " wedding" as these, even though this fabrication is quite casual.
These are not high- quality last forever shoes, eithe, but I'm thinking of taking to the cobbler for some caps or something for the bottoms, to extend wear.

Thanks, Maneera.
It's not s new concept for sure. I wear MOSTLY very comfortable shoes. I tended to avoid styles of skirts snd dresses that " require" heeled/ pointed/something footwear.
But I still feel like I'm holding onto or at risk of adding shoes that are too uncomfortable.

They are not frumpy at all....rather chic espadrilles that look fun!

For a long long time, I've worn shoes to 'complement' my outfit and given less attention to comfort WHILE BUYING. A while back when I decided to do see why I don't wear many of my shoes (I have a rather large shoe collection) I realized it was because many were 'sitting' shoes. And my lifestyle demands I be able to walk in my shoes or Atleast be comfortable to walk from the parking to indoors and climb stairs without pinched feet.

I have gotten rid of almost 30 pairs of shoes since. I want to be able to wear all my shoes and enjoy them, not stare at them only. I have recently bought a few low block heel sandals and 1-1.5inch slight wedge heel sandals. Both work brilliantly.

If you love pointed toes like I do, those do require a little longer to find if you don't want to compromise on comfort. And after 6 hours of wear and constant walking (like shopping sprees or while traveling) I find even the most comfortable pointed toe shoes start to pinch my toes.

If you find the elusive comfy but gorgeous shoes, do let me know!

very nice espadrilles. lucky you found that heel height too. So many are either too high or flat. I spent a lot of time searching Pinterest for espadrilles in the early spring and only bought one pair and mine are flat, because I do not need any more heeled summer shoe

I stand on my feet most of the day, and have to walk a lot at work, so I gave up on style over comfort years ago! But I do think I have some stylish shoes. All with flat heels or very low heels. I'm glad to see that chunkier, more blocky heels are coming back.

Thanks, Aida!
I found 2 pairs of pumps, one black and one camel-taupey, that I think look sleek and I can walk in, but they will start to pinch after a couple of hours. These are my "dressy" shoes in reserve for when I feel I really need that style for the dress or skirt I'm wearing , and can sit/stand, usually an evening occasion (not super-formal, but dressy or just "sharp".)
I'm thinking that's it for that category--everything else ought not to compromise on comfort.

I don't think these are frumpy at all. They strike me as 70s/boho.

I vote that these are cute Unfrumped :)

YES to comfy feet. Two years or so ago I decided that ALL of my shoes needed to be at minimum half-day shoes (obviously the longer the better), and I have been on a slow rampage to accomplish this. Probably about 2/3 the way there now, which is something since I have a rather large shoe collection. Yes, it would be nice to have those Really Fashion Forward shoes particularly since that is something I strive for. But also yes, I am willing to sacrifice a little of that to be able to walk as much as I need to. Since I prefer pointy/almond shapes, they take a LOT longer to find but I loooove them when I do. That all said, I do find it worth keeping a few pretty "sitting" shoes for those handful of dressy events where I won't need to walk a lot.

Here are shoes I got recently to wear to an outdoor wedding with, gasp (for me), bare legs! I got them in the neutral-gold color as in the photo, not the Find. I do wonder if they skew toward the dreaded fr--- word, or if I can claim classicism. Clearly not edgy, of course. And they are casual in fabrication and style, which is intended.

The rounded toe is what makes them so comfortable and healthy for my feet, so that I can keep them on all day, and the heel is low enough for stable walking, so that they are "worry-free" compared to shoes that start out okay but can't go the distance over a few hours. I wanted closed toe on purpose--I could have managed with limited types of more covered-up open toes, but those have been hard to find, and with these I also have no toe-worries.

So here's the thing--when I find a shoe that is really comfortable and stress-free, it surely makes me wonder why I spend any time at all in "4-hour shoes" (which I do sometimes because a) I want to achieve a certain look, always for some kind of dress-up occasion, or b) they seemed comfortable but turned out to pinch or whatever at the X-hour point, and I haven't determined to give them up).

Yet, I fretted about whether I liked them because they were comfortable and I "made" them work, or were JFE, or whether other people would think I was fr----. Or if somehow I can no longer tell the difference!

I think I am still not realistic about how fussy my feet are and I push the style envelope (that should get a laugh, I think!) rather than just relax and find the happy medium between what I see as modern shoe styles, and what I can wear.

I realize that there are HEWI's that might bridge this gap, so I'm always looking for those--perfect comfort that also looks either perfectly classic or interestingly modern--and I find it occasionally, but really some of the comfort elements are toe-box related and so automatically not present in pointy-toe, slim cuts, some kinds of leathers, or un-characterizable shoe-last/shoe fit that you can't predict. This is a lot easier for casual shoes with pants, or for boots, as has been discussed many times.

Is anyone else out there feeling as though they ought to pay even more attention to shoe comfort, but have a degree of shoe-snobbery driving you to compromise, or fret ?
