Please don't try to follow anything that sounds like "rules" too strictly. Each person is different and even your personality plays a part. Use them only as guidelines and look in a full length mirror. Have fun.

Imogen is terrific. Her articles on body type and on wearing color are must reads as far as I'm concerned. Bridgette Raes at bridgetteraes.com posts some helpful articles, too.

As mentioned by other posters, the website

http://www.insideoutstyleblog......-explained

is really helpful. I suggest not getting too wrapped up in perfectly defining your body type. Few people in real life fit perfectly into those categorizations. Usually there is a dominant category with overlays of others. One method that might help you is to face a mirror and actually draw your outline on the mirror surface. At least, that is what helped me the most.

You are starting on what I consider to be a really fun journey. Good luck going forward.

ETA: This may be helpful as well. The vivienne files has a series of posts dedicated to building a wardrobe from scratch and building a wardrobe on article at a time.

I think Imogen does some of the best writing on body shapes and proportion on the web. Angie's done a lot of posts on dressing your shape in the past too, and on wardrobe building and planning. If you're interested in capsule building and packing for trips, The Vivienne Files is great.

There are a lot of useful books on dressing - I think they tend to be more comprehensive than blogs. So maybe check your local library for what they have? We've talked about a lot of them over the years on here. I like the Trinny & Susannah (What Not to Wear UK) books from a few years ago for general principles, although the trends have changed since they came out.

I like Imogen's Inside Out Style also and have learned a lot from her.

A great book if you can get it is The Triumph of Individual Style. I was able to get a copy through my library. It has a lot of good style advice as relates to your body type, height, bone structure, etc.

I have found a number of interesting articles on proportion on Imogen Lamport's website Inside Out Style. This is a good place to start:

I don't have the specific titles, but look at things that sound like body type, proportions, "wearing xxx " (may discuss the proportions and what to wear with it and what makes xxx work)-examples might be, how to wear fuller skirts, bookending, flattering colors and shapes and JFE. Also things about grounding an outfit with a modern classic piece.

There are some things codified by the ancient Greeks that I think Angie's advice is always simpatico with ... Things to do with visual perception and composition like a column of colour or book ending or repetition of colour to keep the eye moving and the outfit a dynamic unified whole. Also principles of symmetry and asymmetry, the colour wheel...

so, i think i want to be more "scientific" about fashion, what i mean is to learn more about proportions, colors, shapes vs. body types etc. and not to only rely on "a feeling" when planning an outfit. i hope you get me.
will be happy if you can share what i need to read from archives here in ylf or any other place.
i think this can help me look better or shop better for me
thanks!
