Yup Greyscale, although I'm on the Peninsula where it gets noticeably warmer than SF. I guess I'm just used to open toppers being lighter weight, like a blazer, rather than a coat. The trench is heavy enough that it could serve as a winter coat for all but deep winter, if it had a closure. But anyway, I'll keep an eye out for the size up if my other mint coat option doesn't work out, since I do have the option of adding some kind of closure too.

The wrap top is great! Wow.

You're in the Bay Area, I think? It seems like a topper with no closure could still be a fun and useful item out here with our lack of weather. It looks great, so I hope you get to try the size up and see if it seems practical.

thanks for the reviews and the laundry tip.

that red chinoise jacket is just poorly designed that i can't imagine anyone filling it out unless you're jessica rabbit with a super tiny waist and a massive rack.

the blondo bootie--i've seen that style /idea for the past few years and i'm saturated. no wonder you felt meh.

on the other hand, that wrap top is outstanding. very fresh and a great refresh with all your other purchases.

Aha, I couldn't find my exact blue bird print fabric before, but if anyone else is looking, here it is:
https://www.fabric.com/buy/045.....-time-blue
(also in lavender)

Their rayon is labeled dry-clean but I initially machine wash/line dried my skirt, before deciding to be less precious about it and throwing it into the machine dryer on low heat as well. It didn't shrink at all from line drying, did go up a little in length after the dryer but the fabric isn't damaged or anything. In fact, if anything it comes out less wrinkled than when I line dried.

Oh! Thank you for the stork info! I do sew, and might pick up a couple yards of that fabric. So excited! The blue colorway would work well with my emerging blue/black/white summer complement, and I am a huge sucker for a natural history inspired print.

Also, SarahD8, re: my other bird-print item -- the original skirt is a limited edition print from Lark Skirts & Apparel, a small business which sadly closed this year. But if you sew or know someone who does, I discovered recently that the fabric was designed by Sarah Watts for Cotton + Steel, whose current collection has a really cute variation on these storks (it's called "Stork Nest" and I also own the green colorway in a project bag, heh).

https://www.fabric.com/buy/045.....-net-green
(comes in yellow and pink as well)

Suz, I think if I really wanted to keep the Caries, I could have had the top opening stretched by the cobbler... it wasn't uncomfortably tight, just made the suede pull a little bit. These booties are much more of a workhorse for you and your climate(s), so I'm hoping that they will work for you.

Elizabeth P, Janet, SarahD8 - Thanks for all of the great closure ideas! I ended up returning the size XS because it didn't have layering room, regardless of the closure issue, but I might stalk popbacks for the size S. The fabric is too thick to easily pop a buttonhole through, but a toggle or frog closure might work (and I haven't used my cardholder alterations benefit at Nordies yet this year).

The Trouve wrap top is really a dark horse in this year's NAS. I think it would be awesome on someone with an hourglass figure, which is the opposite of my body type. The fabric drapes well and there's opportunity to manipulate the fit.

Like the Season and Angie, my closet is pretty full with clothes that I love, accumulated over the years, so I need to be disciplined about "meh" pieces. I've been lucky to stay mostly the same size, modulo a few inches at my natural waist, for the last 8 years.

That wrap top is a clear winner. I also like the coat that doesn't have a closure -- I wonder if something could be added. Perhaps a simple toggle? They have them at the fabric stores, and it may not be a difficult or expensive job for a tailor to add one.

My big order from the first day of pre-sale finally arrived, *11* days later...

1) Madewell Verse Tie Back Top - was hoping this would work untucked over full skirts, but it's an awkward length on me (petite with a long torso), too long for skirts but too short for most of my pants. I preferred the larger of my two sizes for a boxier fit.

2) Mural Drape Trench - Sucked in by the pretty mint color, I didn't notice that this trench has no closure. It's medium-weight, would definitely be fall outerwear for me, too heavy/long to wear indoors at my desk... but the lack of belt or buttons is a dealbreaker. The XS ran fairly TTS, although the shoulders were a bit snug on me and I'd consider sizing up to fit a sweater underneath (if it had a closure!).

3) Badgley Mischka double face coat - More mint! The wool/poly blend feels thin and lower quality. But more importantly, size XXS is laughably huge on me. Well, at least I got my HEWI teal topper this year. And I have one more mint coat, scored on a popback, coming in the mail.

4/5) Aquatalia Carie booties - These were one of my big splurge items. Spoiler: I don't know whether to be sad or relieved that they didn't work out! The shaft might be too high for my petite calves, because it was a bit too baggy at the ankle and a bit too tight at the top. At this price point, they need to be perfect, so they're going back for some other small-footed lady to enjoy.

6) Gibson Cozy Fleece, blouson sleeve pullover in blue and convertible wrap cardi in black (not pictured) - All of the cozy fleece seems to run small. The cut of the pullover was just meh on me. I initially liked the cardi when I tried it on in-store, but the front part is a bit fiddly and then I remembered that my Gibson fleece top from last year pilled very quickly. This fabric doesn't feel like it would hold up much better.

7) Halogen Blouson Sleeve Jacket - I had a hunch that the "red chinoise" color would be good for me, and it is. It seems to be a different color in different fabrics; here it's a true medium red, not too tomato or too blue. But I'll have to find it in a different piece, as I have no hope of filling out this jacket.

8/9) Blondo Lanka booties - Run small, size 5.5 fit like a 5 even without socks. Ankle fit is pretty good. I just felt bored when looking at them in the mirror on me though -- something about the round toe, and they also make my feet look disproportionately small.

10/11) Trouve Wrap Blouse - Saving the best for last! I did manage to keep something from this huge order, and it was one of my low-probability pieces. I loved this bird print immediately and ordered it in XXS despite the fact that my small bust and ill-defined waist are NOT well-suited to wrap tops. This one is a true wrap and designed to be drapey with the kimono styling; I think that's why it manages to work on me. There is a snap at the bust but I leave it undone so that I can wrap the top tighter. It looks really good over a black fit-and-flare dress or skirt. I'm wearing it out to Nordstrom shortly to process my returns, and just sitting on the couch typing this, it's more comfortable than the fussy cold-shoulder top that I was wearing earlier in the day.
