The feedback is so helpful. Amazing what the camera shows me that is harder to see IRL. The bag style may be too "hard" even for me, who likes rectangles. The strap is completely adjustable so it could be worn up under arm more and not as much sticking out at hip; good styling lesson for bag shapes.
krishnidoux, I hadn't thought of that- good to remember.

Beth Ann, you are confirming- I found the magenta bag after the red. It reads more subtle and " richer" and would go with taupes as well black. So that is something to.keep in mind for bag colors. Over time I've learned I'm not a big " pop of color" person in accessories-- though maybe just haven't fallen in love worth the right. combo. I like adding color in more tonal ways.

I agree the dress might be a little long, esp. if you are going to wear it mostly with flats. Yet, if you get it altered, make sure the seamstress respects the pencil line of the skirt and doesn't just bring the hem up. Because then it would be wider too, killing the pencil line you like.

Yes to belted! As for the bags, for some reason I have a strong preference for the purple -- maybe just less contrast or less expected pairing. I see a lot of structured bags in the stores these days. What's it's happiness factor? It seems like your trying to move past "This is OK," to "This is It!." Sometimes I feel like I'm always ending up with 8's instead of 10's, but I think being patient does pay off. The size is perfect for your frame, too.

I think Suz is right the belted look makes the length ok and as Aida says the other factor is that a slight taper will also help with the length.

#1 with the belt looks good! Is this skirt tapered at all? You've mentioned you are a pretty pear, I personally like to see a little bit of taper for pencil skirts on pretty pears That will also help with the length issue, making it look more "on purposely midi length". Purses are very personal, so I can't really comment there.

I like #1 the very best and the length looks perfect, however looks too long by an inch or two in the other photos. As long as you are wearing a belt the length should be fine. I am not a big fan of the purses, they look uncomfortable and I would like to see something softer if that makes sense. The dress looks very versatile and I like what you have done with it.

The dress looks like exactly the right length in #1, though I agree it looks too long in #2.

The bags don't seem stylistically consistent with your clothes to me. I vote return, especially since you just said you have too much stuff, and too much imperfect stuff.

What about a solid-color red or burgundy bag? And perhaps a shoulder bag with a short strap, instead of one at hip length?

Def. belted. Looks great like that! The bag is not my personal style so I can't really judge on that part, but the size is really great for you I think. And I agree that hands free is a great option to have. From the photo it doesn't read "cheap." How does it look compared to another real leather bag? How is the overall construction? Will the shiny closure in front get scratched really easily?

I like belted.
Something about the bag shape is looking gearish to me, kind of like a lunch bag with a strap. Could just be the photos. I also like to be hands-free but I choose softer constructions.

I like the dress belted. This looks great on you! See how well you do with this slimmer style?

I think the belt nicely highlights your waist and draws the eye up so the hem length becomes just fine. Without the belt I might agree with you....you might want to try the dress other ways as well and show with nude hose and/ or no sweater.

I really like the bags, too! It is tough to tell if they look cheap, but from a distance they are terrific. Not sure which colour - it would depend on the rest of your wardrobe and your coats.

Didn't make the dress challenge, but tried some sweaters over a gray sheath dress, so looks kinda like a pencil skirt.
One concern is the dress may be an inch too long--a dilemma is that with tights, a shorter length is really tolerable or better, but then sometimes it seems too short with nude hose and higher heels. I wanted to try wearing it awhile before deciding on hemming up but I think 1/2 -1" shorter might help the proportions.

1-2 Dress with BR sweater over top--belted and not.
3+ Dress with Foxcroft cardigan over--
K/R-trying 2 color-blocked bags that are faux--do they read as too cheap? I tend to feel more "me" with a somewhat smallish, rectangular shoulder bag that is hands-free than a big bag. But maybe that's old-style? One problem is I like both colors, in terms of usage.
