Wow, Alikna, that's a big concern. No bueno if they fit as-is to start but the fabric is wonky.

I have these pants in white, Unfrumped, and I'm going to join Alaskagirl in spannerville. I bought them at the beginning of the season and (being white) had to dry clean them quickly. The pants shrank a couple of inches in length (I was wearing them with heels, now the flattest of flats) and I have not gained weight --they're still fine in the waist. Also the fabric in the legs has twisted, if that makes sense, so they no longer drape nicely. They are lined, and the lining no longer sits flat over my tummy. They've been an all around disaster. I am uber picky about dry cleaning -- I use a small family place that does everything in house and all gets pressed by hand. They have never ruined anything I've taken there. They said they struggled with these.

It could be yours will be fine--maybe the burgundy is different, and my white ones are lined which contributes to the problem. But I just wanted to let you know. If you do keep them, it might be worth hemming them long until you dry clean, just in case. You can always rehem later if you don't have a problem.

Sorry to be a downer--FWIW, I think these look amazing on you, and I love the colour. I think they look super with the top in your first pic.

Very helpful comments and styling ideas! Thank you.
Alaskagirl, it's perfectly great to note a downside. I DID have Liz pleated pants! Although, only one pair, as her clothes mostly did not " get me"!
Sterling , also good cautions.
So far I think I'm seeing these fit well for the style, and if after I do some more tryons I see easy outfit options, then they are real contenders. The color is still a plus, since I've had little success in finding work- type trousers in a " near neutral" such as what's available in jeans and chino styles.
So as Sterling noted, my main issue is whether there will be much better " next" options, because I do not need wardrobe expansion; I have pants I've not worn much if at all but still keep and so need to think why is that. When a new style is that great, I sometime find it clarifies that. If not great creates cohesion instead of confusion.
I think I will have some weekend time to do a " pants capsule review" before I commit, for that reason.

I really like them on you. And I especially love the idea of belted with more fitted, tucked tops. It just speaks of elegance.

The red is superb and I think the red will actually be more interesting and versatile. As someone that always wears black, sometimes it is time to change things up.

I have two concerns. One is the lower rise you mentioned. If the rise is not what you want, please don't settle. There will be other pants.

Two is the comment made by AlaskaGirl. There is something that rings true about her comment and I would be amiss if I don't point that out to you. In fact, I am going to go back and re-read the posts about the Eileen Fisher pants. I have the bad feeling I read what I wanted to read.

They work very well Unfrumped. They show off your tiny waist and slim figure in the most flattering way....I love them. Just get them hemmed to work with these boots. And yes, keep the plaid pants too. Those are VERY different from these, so you'll have 2 new styles to work with this fall/winter.

That should bring in a versatile update to your existing F/W wardrobe and prevent monotony.

As for tops I'm seeing more fitted tops, such as turtlenecks made from refined fabrics, or to change it up you could wear a cropped boxy top that shows off the waistline. Would be essential that the top shows some waist if it is boxy. Another thought is to wear a belted wrap top, you would look so good in a belted jacket too!

I wasn't thinking I'd like them on you in my mind, as I like you in a gentle skinny silhouette, I guess that would be a relaxed tapered pant. BUT -- after seeing the pictures, I love them!!! They really show off your lovely waist and slim curves. I am liking a slightly puddled hemline right now. You could have them hemmed for a heel (like a 2") and then wear with a 1" oxford as well, for example. Or maybe reserve the puddle for a more narrow leg opening where the hem doesn't drag and get damaged... just thinking aloud here.

I'm going to be a spanner - these are an item I would be drawn to as well, but then later I would end up feeling like they were just an updated version of the Liz Claiborne work trousers I had in the 90s and feel more throwback than edgy. It's the same feeling I get with the Eileen Fisher pants that Suz posted about, asking what differentiates them from her mother's stretch pants. Or all the pleated tapered pants I coveted that were indistinguishable from environmentally normcore thrifted Eddie Bauer chinos.

I am not saying they don't look fine on you - they do. But they seem like something you might feel differently about in a month or two. I could easily be wrong, but I just had to ask...

Thanks, Meredith.
That's what I was thinking when I went with this color--it really skews Fall with the right colors, and can go with practically any colored boots I have. For cool spring I could try my mauvy-blush colors or light grays in tops and can use accessories like scarves or jewelry to "lighten up" the color palette.
I will want to try some indoor-type jackets with them, to see if that's easy or complicated. Coats are usually no problem.

They look great! No, they're not as versatile as black pants, but as long as you have a handful of tuckable shirts that aren't red, I would think the variety would be nice.

Hi Angie! Thank you for reviewing.

I actually love how they feel , with that lovely secure belted feeling at the waist, and like a lot of drapey pants, I think they look better IRL , with movement, very nice and swishy, and while not fitted on the thigh, the drapey fabric gives a bit of that effect.

These could be 3-season pants for me, by layering under and wearing warmer tops. Technically summer too, in air-conditioning, but ankle boots don't give that vibe as well.

What do you see as the direction for tops? Do you think they "require" more tailored tops for less volume, or mix and match (ha!) with different styles? My default will be a knit, such as a thin linen, cotton or merino, in either a boatneck or rare turtleneck, or maybe a woven not button-front.
Button fronts plus the lower rise tend to emphasize long torso.
I have not tried un-tucking, or belting over. So I will need to play around with them.

Also color--this color will work fine in my wardrobe but steers me to all of my non-burgundy/berry tops unless there's a good monochrome match. I had wondered if black would be the safe bet for a pant that could go with more tops and maybe dress up or down. OTOH it's great to have some not-black pants options.

If I got these, I think I would still keep the plaid pants and create 2 very different looks. That may be all of the "new" looks I can find time to wear, since I still will wear my existing, more "classic" trousers this fall and winter.

I decided to try the Chelsea 28 wide-leg trousers. They were sold out at first but re-stocked. I started with the dark red, though now wonder if I should have tried black, to be a more basic color in an unusual silhouette, but that's sold out now unless I order Tall size.

I knew from description that they were really wide at hem, and they are for sure. The drapey fabric helps, and they're not super-voluminous on the hip, but there is a lot of hem! Also these are not "high rise" on me.

I have them roughly pinned up about 4", not fine-tuning PPL here, as they're incredibly long.

Pic 1 sort of like Angie's blouse with bootcuts post. But, his Pleione top doesn't want to stay tucked in front as well as it does with some real-waist skirts and pants, though, because the pant waist is low.
Pic 2 is a very simple top with less volume and more of a FFBO look.
This may be not be the best example, but something simple like it, not necessarily the exact top, is appealing to me with the full pants.
Pic 3 I just tried a gathered shell with cardigan, but now in the photo it looks like a lot of volume.

One of my goals for pants is to try out styles that work for belting and tucking, so these are contenders, but the slightly low waist plus the full legs may only be JFE. A higher waist gives me better proportions with a pleated pant (the opposite of the solution to the shortwaisted/flared skirt problem ) and I'm wearing about my highest ankle boot, so that's all the leg length I'll have.

Comments and suggestions welcome!
