Beth Ann, I love the idea of a navy trench! I have worn my putty-colored EB to death, so I think I would get a lot of use out of a replacement in the same general color range. I have actually been keeping an eye out for a navy one for a while, though. The good thing is that I can do without a khaki (or navy?) trench until I find the right one. Hmm, I'm thinking maybe the Liebeskind should come back here and stay for a little while longer. I'm feeling like a totally batty shopper right about now.

Pil, thanks for your read on the coat. I agree about the open top on the Brahmin. It has a snap--not totally secure, but not completely open, either--and I haven't had a purse upset disaster (yet), but a closed top is definitely something I'm looking for in my everyday purse.

ETA: Makrame, glad to hear you like your MK coat--thanks for your input!

The MK trench looks like it fits really well, though there is often something I miss that others see I'd like to see the double breasted Ellen Tracy, but there is that not buttoning at the neck issue.

The Brahmin bag is gorgeous, but I see what you mean about it being more formal. For every day I wold have a problem with things falling out of the open top. You have a wealth of options! Tough decision.

I am loving the Liebeskind first, the Aunts and Uncles 2nd, and Emperia 3rd.

As for the trenches? I'm afraid I love these coats in theory -- or in magazine spreads, but seldom in real life. I find them stiff, and the color, well, isn't colorful enough. I like your green one ever so much more. Of course, one must have more than one coat in your climate. I'll cheer you and your fab style on regardless, of course, but I could see you in Pewter or Bronze metallic, Navy or Burgundy.

Caro, Ceit, and rae, thanks for the support!

Shevia, glad to know you were drawn to Aunts & Uncles, too. They are different from the usual, which is part of the draw for me. I appreciate the vote of confidence on my current faves, too.

kkards, Karie, Suz, and Missvee, we'll see about the shape and size of Mrs. Teacake (yes, what an amusing name!). The depth might be inconvenient. I have a purse insert, which I meant to photograph for you all. So it's easy to "try on" my stuff in a bag. Just pop it in and out. I do it all the time when I look at bags in stores.

Susie, good questions! I don't want to settle--to Angie's point in today's blog post.

rachylou, good thoughts--thank you!

Marley, Missvee, and Manidipa, I think you hit the nail on the head with the embellishment on the Rebecca Minkoff bag! That's usually not my style. Occasionally, yes, but every day, no. Good catch.

Oh dear, Angie and Parsley! I returned the Liebeskind bag today. And I could not try on the Ellen Tracy trench in my size, but in the store, I saw it has an open collar--does not button to the top. My green trench is like that, and I think for my second trench I want one that buttons up, so I can go scarf-less if I choose. That is actually one thing I like about the Eddie Bauer one.

Thanks, all, for chiming in. Glad to hear it's not just me with the intense shopping experience!

I went to the store today--returned the Liebeskind bag, re-tried the coat and came home with the MK trench in XS (photos 1, 2, and 3 below), at SA's suggestion. She thought the S (again in different color) looked kind of big, even layered over a jacket. Note: this is about as bulky as I'll get with it; the photo shows the coat with the liner in and a jacket on underneath. It's 80 degrees, and I'm putting on all of this stuff to take photos, in no A/C! Crazy, yes?! (Meanwhile size S is still on the way to me). Maybe I should order the Ellen Tracy, too, for comparison. There is a London Fog on sale, which I tried in black. Did not like it as well on me, as the upper arms were tight while the rest of the coat fit nicely.
Also, here is another bag I currently have, a little shopper style from Brahmin (photo 3 below, and in 4 with the rather tired-looking Hobo satchel). I got it to replace the Hobo satchel, and I do carry it a lot. But I find it feels too formal and structured sometimes.

What do you think of the MK trench on me? Does the existence of the Brahmin bag influence thoughts on the bag purchase? Should I retrieve the Liebeskind?? Just for now (till I have the others to compare)? I'll go ahead and order the Ellen Tracy, because I can't know until I actually see it whether it would work!

Firecracker - I saw the Liebeskind in the store and I thought that it seemed bulky and utilitarian - not really the style that I think of for you! I like the Mrs. Teacake in the photo - the RM looks pretty embellished to me (too much perhaps.) Trench coat - I prefer the double-breasted one.

FC, I'm glad to hear that I'm not the only one dithering over my NAS purchases!

I LOVE the Liebeskind bag for you and will be so sad if you decide not to keep it. But, you're the one who needs to feel comfortable with it. I just don't think the other bags you show here can hold a candle to it. Not even the Rebecca Minkoff!

As far as trenches, I think the Ellen Tracy trench will be perfect for you- looking forward to seeing which one you pick!

Will this bag be for casual or dressy use? I like the bag in #4 but I don't think it's as dressy as the bag in photo 1, which is also beautiful. I also prefer both 4 and 1 to your old bag. I think the bag in #5 is dressiest of all, I just prefer the other bags. #6 and #7 are beautiful but I'm not sure I would like the tallness of the bag - like kkards said, things would probably fall to the bottom and be hard to find.

I really like the trench in #10 - I think you should try that one on!

Well, I definitely like the Liebeskind bag more than your current one (I must be feeling more "structured" than "soft" today). I also like #4, too bad it is expensive.

I think I have a Michael Kors trench from last year's spring season (mine has a detachable liner but looks pretty similar to yours, except it is red). I really like mine. It looks like either of the two trenches will be a nice update.

I am doing more or less the same thing with NAS, even though I am not planning to buy/keep more than 3 or 4 items. Since I can only order online, I placed my order early to have to time re-order during NAS in case sizes or colors need to be changed. I just placed my second order today (some things were too big, one shoe had something strange going on with the insole etc.). I also end up looking at more items at other sites during the sale, for comparison.

I have a Liebeskind bag and I love the quality; the leather is so soft. I looked at that one and I'm just not thrilled about the style. It's nice but to me it's not "the one." Same with the RM.With the faux leather, if you got that one would you be content and stop looking? (I would not but don't want to project my preference on to you.)

I think the Mrs.Teacake is promising. And how cute is that name? :)

Have you looked at other bags from Liebeskind? There are a couple on their website that really like.

Well it's one good thing about not participating in NAS - I can save my strength for other things :-). But seriously I'm not really sold on any of these bags for you. The Liebeskind seems very utilitarian, the RM has so much detail ( shiny bits, buckles, studs), and I suspect the quilted one will not be the quality you're looking for. The Teacake bag looks more promising but you'll have to make sure it's the scale you want.
I love the trench coats you've ordered though and I think it's a great idea to replace your EB gear jacket.

I loved reading this post. Now I know that I was not the only one who was up for half the night going over her NAS purchases (or at least orders) and trying to work out what to keep and what to change. And I haven't even seen my stuff in person yet! This is my first NAS and it is certainly causing a lot of interior "shopping" and ruminating, I can tell you! I was reading Blondo boot threads on this forum until 11 pm alone!

But enough about me. I love the Liesbeskind bag, and as you know, was very tempted by it. But in the end I didn't order it because I felt it would seem too large for my 5'4" frame. You are a bit taller than I am and also your hair balances things out a bit more. But I agree with you that it's a shape issue. It's good, but it might not be "the one."

To me, #4 looks very promising. I worry about the others for the same reason KKards does. I love the look of bags in that shape, but hate them in use. But it may depend on what you tend to carry.

I love the idea of the new trench and think it is an excellent purchase for you. Looking forward to seeing it on!

I just noticed someone carrying an aunts and uncles bag on the train - I had never heard of that label before. I noticed because I liked the bag so I looked at the label. Also very thematic for me this week. That aside on you I prefer your old bag to the new one - just a first impression first thing in the morning. I really like the green trench - so the good news is I like your old stuff and you know what works on you so what you ultimately choose will be fab! How is that logic for you?

The handle detail on the Liebeskind bag makes it look heavy. I quite like 4, we'll see how it does when it arrives!

I look forward to seeing the results of the trench search too.

Deep breath - shopping is hard especially when you are being PPP. I think you are doing well - you know what you want & you are narrowing down the field.

Don't hate me but I think #4 would be fantastic for you

If you shop NAS, do you ever feel like it sets off its own little series of shopping frenzies? Ever since I got home with the Liebeskind satchel I bought at NAS and tried it in front of my own mirror, I've been wondering about it. And browsing bag styles online, practically obsessively. NAS gets me thinking about fall and what I want. Then I have to scour other shops to ensure that I'm making wise choices about what to buy and what to pass up at NAS! Aack--such a lot of contemplating! :)

So I'm posting the Liebeskind bag again here (photo 1), in some comparison photos with the Hobo satchel (photo 2) I wanted it to replace (comparison photo 3). Vix suggested I might rehab my old bag, and I'm still working on that, but as she also suggested, I think I still want a new one, too. Even if I get the old one looking pretty good again, I don't think it will look or feel as fab to me as it once did. Maybe I'm wanting a change, as much as anything. But good bags are hard to find!

What I like about the Liebeskind bag: great color for me, great style. What makes me hesitate about it (and why I think I've just about settled on returning it): I think it's too boxy for me. It feels a little big, but I don't think it looks big, and in reality, it's about the same size as my current bag. So I think it's just the shape.

I now have three other bags on their way to me:
1) Photo 4: Rebecca Minkoff, Cupid, from NAS (more than I really want to spend, so it will kind of have to be the holy grail bag for me to keep it)
2) Photo 5: Emperia Quilted Faux Leather Mini Satchel, from NAS (online only) (I don't have high hopes, but it was so inexpensive, I had to give it a whirl)
3) Photos 6-7: Mrs. Teacake, by Aunts & Uncles, from Re-Soul, a local boutique (they're ordering it for me). These bags are so, so cool--loved Mrs. Teacake's sisters in the shop. I've ordered a charcoal that's not shown on the website but is close to photo 6. Photo 7 shows the strap options.

Will keep you posted, of course, and I may need some more opinions once they arrive. Not sure I'll be able to show the last one, since I'll look at it in the store when it arrives.

And, because NAS just keeps going. . . . I also ordered the Michael Michael Kors trench (photo 8), after seeing Angie's picks. The light kind of went off in my head--I could actually use a khaki trench! I have this Eddie Bauer putty-colored trench (photo 9) that I wore tons for two years. Last year I kept wearing it when I wanted a light neutral, but I didn't love it so much, as I'm trying to evolve my style to be a little less Eddie Bauer and a little more Eileen Fisher.
I tried on the MK trench, plus a London Fog that wasn't on sale. I didn't get to try on the Ellen Tracy trench (photo 10) that Angie picked, but I might go to a different store tomorrow and try it as well. I liked the lighter color and double-breasted styling of the London Fog a little better than the MK style, but the princess seams just did not fit me well in the bust. With the MK, the XS fit very nicely over what I had on, but I wanted enough room to layer a jacket underneath, so I got the S. Had to order it in the khaki color that I wanted. For reference, here is my Gallery green trench (photo 11), which I wear constantly for about 9 months of the year. I'm excited at the prospect of having a khaki coat alternative.

All of this (if you've read this far!) is just because who else am I gonna share this stuff with? I don't even know what my questions are at this point! Shopping can be such a process, kinda hard work even. Any thoughts are welcome! Thanks for listening/reading.

ETA: more pics farther down thread.
