Honestly? I'm a bit on the fence with these. Personally, I've struggled bit with heeled (even wedge) sandals because I can't wear strappy sandals to work and I've found that I heel is more than I want on the weekends as a MOTG, so that might be coloring my opinion of them! It sounds like you aren't quite sold on them either. If you LOVED them and thought they were perfect for what you need, then that would be one thing. But that's not coming across. FWIW I'd vote return and keep an eye out for something better.

I quite like them. They remind me of a pair of Clarks that I like (they look better in person.) http://www.zappos.com/clarks-w.....cTest=fw:1 I'm waiting for these to come down in price.

These are so nice. And I bet they are very comfortable too, from their shape. I am so jealous. I want a pair. Where did you find these?
I hope you didn't return them. They look like they would be most useful and look very feminine with pants and capris. Maybe what you need is another pair on top of these for dressier events. However, if it were me, I'd first get these.
They might seem like a compromise now, but to me it looks like a hidden case of "very needed item". You know when you get something because you feel you need it but the heart is not 100% there, and then you end up reaching for them all the time. And finally realize that with cost-per-wear, the item turned out to be a good deal.
My two cents.
;)

PS: In sandals I also find I often fit a 6 when in shoes I am also 6.5 or 7.

I think they fit the bill to a certain extent. To me they look like a very good, super comfortable (which is very important) neutral that can go with so many things. The wedge and general cut don't look dated (nor sweet) to me. However, I hear you on the price. If a shoe is on the expensive side, it better be incredible! So, for a 'compromise' shoe (since that's how this pair seems to appear to you), it may not be worth it. You need a pair, I know, but this one may not make you happy in the long run. And I hear you on Nancylee's pair: that one got completely stuck in my brain. I was at the mall the other day to return something and remembered those sandals. NS had them in my size and I totally loved them. The problem is that I have 2 nude pairs of sandals already, neither of which make me totally happy. I really cannot justify buying another pair at this point just because I love them way more, but it's difficult getting them out of my thoughts.

Don't stick with only one source, but obviously accounting for shipping to Canada, check out endless.com, nordstrom, zappos, 6pm, amazon, shoes.com and wherever else stocks this brand. They all seem to carry different product lines.

I won't respond about the style as you've already gotten so many great, more informed comments. That said, I am a HUGE fan of Borns. They are very good quality shoes, very comfortable IME and they last. (I own many pairs of Borns.)

Rae and Jonesy, "sweet" and "old style direction" is precisely my own thought.

Hmmm. I think I may return them. Because what is the point of keeping something that, however flattering and "useful," isn't really right for my style? I will just feel mired if I wear them.

Unfortunately I don't have any other contenders at the moment. But who knows what may have arrived at the store since I picked these up?

I really like the sandals and they are very flattering on you. Borns have always felt comfortable to me. Maybe one pair of sandal just can't do everything. This looks like it will work with most of your wardrobe though. I would keep them and just continue to look for another pair that has the urban edge you are seeking.

Manidipa - I saw them for less money in the U.S. but I am in Canada. Our prices are typically a lot higher for the same item. I could potentially order from the US but then I would pay duty and delivery, so not worth it.

Sorry, but I'm a bit on the fence too. Haven't read all the comments. They seem to fit well and are very versatile as nude sandal, but there is something about how the side straps are going in on your foot before they gather (sorry for bad explanation!). Also, the fact that you are on the fence because of price AND style. The last is the most important. If you hesitat because you have imagined another style for these sandals, will you then wear them a lot, or will this hesitation stick with the sandals?

Suz, you mention seeing these elsewhere at a lower price? Is it not possible to buy them at the lower price and return these? Or are you out of time or in the wrong place for that?

Because if price is the only thing niggling, I'd want to settle that too. Because I DO honestly think these look great on you and the fit looks just fine too, and that colour should be extremely versatile and the style seems enduring, like Claire points out. ((I remember a similar pair of black ones I had in the early 90s that I'd love to have a tan duplicate of now. So yeah, odd as this may sound, proves this style does NOT date.)

Yes, I know you said style direction was a niggle as well --- but as Tanya noted, it may be best to buy the practical shoe before you go for the stylish hi-jinks. I know, I know --- ideally they'd be one and the same shoe! I hear you! Really, I do. Remember by search for The One Black Shoe? But I have to say I'm glad I 'settled' for what I still see as the boring option, because it's proving far more wearable than my stylish option. 'Boring' IS often more versatile precisely because it's bland! I'm trying to say, I think, that it is easier to think straight and evaluate the stylish option for budget and aesthetics when the practicalities are functionally covered.

And hey, once you find the OTHER perfect pair, maybe you could dye these red, or green, or purple or something really fun and funky to colour-block with 'Ode to Yellow'?

I'm voting Keep!

You are allowed to have more than one pair of sandals! (I know this has been an issue for you in the past.)

For me, those would be keepers (if they fit - they do look like they're hugging the front of your foot a bit, but it's hard to tell in a photo.) I like the slingback style (elongates the leg line) and nude color, and I find wedge platforms to be the most comfy option these days. If they're not super expensive, I'd say keep. You can always look for another pair as well.

It's hard to find a good slingback. May I ask the style name?

A decent option, absolutely! They'll probably 'go' with nearly every warm weather outfit. With the cork soles, they look edgier than you think. If they are truly comfortable (hopefully you traipsed around the house for awhile just to test) and you can see yourself reaching for them with a variety of your summer outfits, then keep. Apparently Born is great quality, so you should get lots of wear from them!

Suz, I totally know where you're at - I also strive for cool and sometimes feel like I have to settle for somewhat-boring old uncool me, because it's so hard to find the "perfect" shoe - and what is that really, anyway?!

I think that you could put these sandals for great use - if they're comfie, I say go for it. They're a great-looking shoe, and as a neutral you'll get tons of use out of them. And in the meantime, you can keep thinking about what will make a cool shoe for you. It's interesting - I love Jonesy's shoes - i think think they are so super cool. But I realize that ankle straps and high vamps and dark shoes will never work on short, blonde me, so I have to figure out my own definition of cool that will work with my body. Anyway, I sort of digressed to talk about ME, when this is really about YOU. I like the shoes.

Ok, they're not hip, urban statement shoes, but does the urban part of your rubric always have to come from the shoe? These are FABULOUS sandals. They are superbly flattering on your foot/leg and they look like a good fit. They're not likely to date anytime soon, which is nice when your sandal season is short and you probably won't wear them out in a year or two. If they're good for walking and comfortable, I say KEEP! They blend in in the best possible way and will let another part of your outfit shine. I see them more as a "supporting act" and less of the "main event". Almost neutral in style, as well.

FWIW I think they'd look great with shorts and jeans! Suz if you're busy, don't bother trying to take any pictures with a dress. I like them and think they will work well for you. Let's just leave it at that!

These sandals look cute and seem to fit you well, Suz. Plus, you said they fill an important hole in your wardrobe and go with several of your summer dresses. So, I'm thinking they might be very useful for you since you don't currently own any strappy sandals.

But...I also hear you on the style direction concerns. It's tough when you're weighing practicality against fun and coolness. My new cool sandals aren't my only options for summer--I do own some more basic ones for less "hip" situations. So, it was easier for me to go for the fun pair since I already owned a practical pair. This Born pair does have a slightly retro vibe IMHO, if that helps. I think you'd find them very useful....but I'm also getting a sense of dissatisfaction from you--and if they're expensive you might not want to settle.

FYI, my new cool VC sandals are extremely comfortable (don't let the heel measurement scare you), so you might want to factor that into your considerations. If you could get both pair (one practical, one hip) that would be great. :)

I know what you mean about style direction stuff being hard. Despite my recent style breakthrough, I haven't been able to put together a rubric for myself either. Oh well, it's a journey.....like everything else, it seems!

Mochi, LOL at what you said...that is sort of what I was thinking..."If it's nude, nobody's looking at it! They're looking at my (supposedly) longer-looking legs!!"

I have a few days to decide but in reality almost no time; I am on very very tight work deadlines right now and have essentially no time to go shopping (or returning).

Yeah, Shannon, I will try to get DD to snap a pic - I'd probably just wear them with my summer dresses - nothing fancy, you know. Just a dress, the shoe, some sort of bag. A topper perhaps, jean jacket or other.

I doubt I'd wear them much with my shorts or jeans, though perhaps.

Very good point, Tanya, and I trust your thoughts on wedges absolutely!

These are beautiful sandals and I would keep them, as it sounds that they would work well for your lifestyle. Then you can stalk the edgy ones for a good deal. When it comes to more practical vs. cooler item, I always say get what you need first, even though it might not be as exciting, and then try to snag the other one at a big discount. If it works, great, otherwise, it wasn't meant to be.

Is this a case of "needing to dress for the life you live"? In which case, the Borns are perfect. In terms of adding any retro or edge touches, you can always achieve that in some other manner in an outfit - it doesn't need to be through the footwear. Any chance we could see them with an outfit or two to get a better sense?

Suz, Born is a very good quality shoe from my experience. And I tend to love the designs. This one is okay. I feel neutral about it, but slightly dressy sandals are a challenge in my mind anyway. Plus, they're going to be nude colored so my thinking is that it doesn't matter so much? (Compelling argument, eh?) I agree that Nancylee's recent sandal purchase was truly awesome. I am leery because that one is a 3.5" heel, a little past my comfort zone. Why don't you keep looking, if you can hold onto these a little bit longer?

Thanks, Shannon.

Well, what I'd REALLY like are those very cool nude sandals that Nancylee posted a few days. So, you see....more urban, hip, edgy.

These don't feel that way.

On the other hand, those extremely cool sandals that Nancy posted are not as easy to wear for my work-at-home, MOTG, very casual life (especially my summer life). The fanciest it gets is drinks on a restaurant patio with hubby. Know what I mean? And Kingston is not exactly a major urban centre. I'm all for challenging the environmental norm (and have no problem whatsoever doing so). But I need to do it in some kind of comfort.

The other issue is that the very cool sandals Nancy posted would not go so well with the two summer dresses I just bought! They'd go well with a few I already have in my closet, but not with my new Cleo dress or the Mexx dresses. Then again, these Borns do not look great with one of the Mexx dresses, either, LOL! That dress needs a grey or black sandal to anchor it, I think.

Anyway...there it is. I think my style direction is towards a more minimalist tailored aesthetic. Still with some retro touches, but I suspect a different kind of retro.

This style direction stuff is hard. I definitely have not honed down my rubric yet. Or figured out how to blend my style aspirations with the life I actually live.

I think these are quite pretty and I really like the neutral but shiny leather. I think the fit is good, as long as they're comfortable. I usually wear a 6.5 but take a 6 in Born so I do think they are a generous fit. Personally, I really like them and can see them as being extremely versatile.

When you say you're not sure about them moving you in the style direction you want to go, what type of sandals are you thinking of?
