It does kind of sound like the white one was worn and stretched out! Yikes! I ordered one too and I think it's in my apartment office, couldn't get home in time!

Well, they didn't shrink so much as ... close in on themselves? Hard to explain. It's like the weave compresses a bit. So yes, they are smaller than when I first opened them. But then I stretched the pink one out ON PURPOSE so my IT daughter could comfortably wear it. (She likes her tees really loose and not form fitting). Then I washed it and pushed it back, and it's about the same again. It's kind of like with a wool sweater -- when it's wet it has some pliability.

I definitely think you should mention your issue with the petite selection. And see what they say. Maybe they will have some suggestions.

Suz, do you think your larger sizes shrank to match the navy?

I think that I simply need the petite sizes at J. Crew. But the petites' selection there is less than stellar. I figure when I complain about the white tee I will excoriate them on their poor petites' selection. Maybe I will burn all my bridges! Ha! (Can you tell I'm having a bad day?)

I do think dye lots can make a difference. My three tees were all different sizes -- the navy was smallest, the white in between, and the pink biggest. But after I washed them all, they are the same size. I lay them flat and blocked them to the size that looked right to me.

I definitely think you should call though. If the care instructions were snipped out, it sounds like you got somebody else's return that may have been worn.

Their customer service has been good with me, too. It wouldn't hurt to try another tee in the hope it will be closer to the correct size for you.

The other thing you could do is call their personal shopping service and explain your fit issues. They could maybe help you find items that will be cut small enough to work on your body. It's free, I believe, and worth a shot?

Thanks, Sveta! I was hoping you would stop by this thread.

I was wondering whether the tee had been worn. But is it supposed to stretch out that badly when worn? That's a huge difference in measurements.

I wouldn't mind a $25 gift card, ha ha. Would you recommend calling instead of stopping into the store?

This is really weird! I would call them and complain - JCrew customer service has been really good to me. If tags are clipped off it means that maybe you got worn tee?
I one had the wrong item in my package - scarf instead of cashmere hat. I called them, the apologized, refunded my card and sent me $25 gift card as well. Mistakes happen, the main thing is how they are being corrected - I would give them another chance.

OK, I just got my package from J. Crew today. I ordered two boatneck linen tees, both in XXS, one in navy and one in white.

I tried the white one on first. It was absolutely huge! Really depressing. But I know that dyes can change how a garment fits, so I thought I would try the navy one on anyway, even though it was the same size.

Well, the navy one fits fine, except the neck is a little bigger than I would like. It was a night and day difference.

So I put the two shirts on my bed and lay the navy one on top of the white one. I would swear that the white one is two sizes bigger. The width of the navy one at the armpits is 16", and at the bottom it is 17". The width of the white one at the armpits is 18", and the bottom is 19"! So there is a full four inches' difference in overall circumference of the torso on these two shirts, which are supposedly the same size. And both have "XXS" written on the inside back.

And to make things even more exciting, the white tee has had the care instructions snipped out.

This is my first time ordering clothes from J. Crew. Is this typical? I'm not sure I'd like to be a repeat customer.
