Irina, i agree with you, as I commented above. I think labels such as these can be useful the same way those fruit or geometric shapes as body descriptors are useful—loose baskets to gather what might appeal to someone who fits the description. Not that whoever is making the collection has the final say, but to give the person wearing the clothes a head start in their search. You can go straight to the purist basket, skipping over all the ditzy prints & bright colors in mine.

Jenni NZ, I would describe my style as minimal, yes. I prefer a minimal esthetic in decor, too. But I’m not a minimalist in lifestyle and rather large size of my wardrobe is the evidence of that :)
We all have natural leanings towards certain colors and styles. It might change through our life but I think it is important that those changes happen organically and not on an advice from a fashion editor.
I find suggestions on how to dress like minimalist or someone else, well, silly. You either one or not.

Wow, guess I am a purist as Lemaire is one of my inspirations. Utility details, classic shapes. I get a few items from his Uniqlo collections most seasons. My shoes tend to the more practical and gear side than a Parisian.
Purist nomad aesthetic?
Ther you go, new appellation.
Thank you!

Apologies for another post and run, we are moving house on Wednesday so things are chaotic here to say the least.

Jaime, I did think of you when I saw the word curator or Anagybe. To me it's about building an outfit around a hero piece.

Lisa, yes purist fits with your current goals definitely.

I don't know if RATE (rough around the edges) is still a term used on the forum, but there were a few members who toughened up their style and warrior would be a great fit for their style.

I think I may fall somewhere between purist and romantic.

Ha Irina I thought of your closet too! When I said I will never be and don’t want to be a purist, I think that style looks perfect on you. Would you also describe yourself as a minimalist in clothing I wonder?

Did they look in my closet to come up with their examples? LOL
Well, I don’t have some of items on their list but really want them.
I understand classifications when it comes to the common ones like minimalist, maximalist, boho, classic and so on or any combination of them. But the descriptions like purist are more personal and too loosely defined. I can’t identify with them. Fun names, though.

My personal taste is so opposite to what they show in the article! Purist I will never be and don’t want to be.
Perhaps a “romantic” would be closest for me, with maybe a side of free spirit.
To me a curator might be nearer to a purist??
I agree with LJP that those identities are inspiring Matches Fashion in their buying so we would have to know what they meant by them.

I don't have a goal--I like what I like. Hard to change basic attraction in anything—food, dating, clothes, whatever. I can change how I express those likes, but at a gut level, they just *are*.

My interpretation of this article is that those 6 "identities" are what's currently inspiring Matches in their buying . I identify with the Purist right now - it's my current goal.

Well, the purist isn't me, but like Dee, I'm curious about the other 5.

I know people here think of me as a maximalist, but I think there is a minimalist side to me as well, in that I am not into make-up, jewelry, fancy hairstyle and I much prefer outfits that are easy to decode, not clever architecturalism or the like. My patterns tend to be very straightforward, such as a ditzy print or paisley, as opposed to something abstract that you slowly realize has an image in it or something--but I also veer away from patterns that hit you over the head "this is striped!!" "I'm plaid" etc. The cuts I prefer are also pretty streamlined and not maximalist; I don't want to be too revealing, but even the bell bottoms and midis I like have to be cut in a way that "extra" fabric isn't in the way.

I'm beginning to think "all-natural" is a good descriptor for my style. I don't see a descriptor in her list that sounds like mine maps onto it easily, but I don't really know, because I don't know enough about what she means with the others.

The article seemed primarily focused on the definition of the purist, so I'm not sure what they meant by the other labels, but I dont think I'd neatly fit into any one category.
I'm influenced by a lot different styles, and my wardrobe has a little bit of everything. I like changing things up once in awhile and I dress for my moods, so I'm not sure what category that would be.

I came across this quote today

"As we approach each season, we look to our six muses: the fashion pioneer, the warrior, the free spirit, the curator, the romantic and the purist," explains Natalie Kingham, a fashion consultant and the former buying director at MatchesFashion.

https://www.whowhatwear.co.uk/minimalist-fashion

Do you fit neatly into one of these categories?
