I wonder how the cracked surface would wear...I have a red leather bag that has some cracking on the handle and it's not very visible but the brown leather peeking through underneath bugs me, and that's a tiny spot. They are cool boots, though. I don't think the little bit more or less in height would make such a huge difference (engineer boots vs. these). Personally, I can't do white boots (or even very light ones) over pants because almost all of my pants are dark and it makes the boots appear very white and stark. I feel that, if you were to only wear w/ bare legs, you'd be limited to shorts and shorter skirts because of the shaft height.
