Joy, I do similarly re: hooks--DH and I each have a set of hooks for " fweekend clothes" or after-work casual wear I might only wear for a couple of hours at a time.
I'm enjoying rethinking where I keep things. Awhile back I had moved dressy clutches, scarves and pashminas in my main clothing storage area so I could "accessorize" conveniently. But, honestly I don't do that as often, and in general I have more advance notice or time to do it. That means I could go gaze at items in an extra closet or drawer when putting those outfits together.
So, I'm going back to prioritizing most-worn, most-easily overlooked or, I want to use it up approach. It actually makes more sense for me to keep transition season or slightly off-season items (blouses, lighter weight sweaters) in more plain view and wear them more often or work on versatility (layering) so I don't have an entire wardrobe for each of 4 seasons by forgetting what I have or letting the clock run out on its fashion life. This still lets me store heavier wool sweaters and very light tops when out of season.
I had been supposed to be doing this already, but still, mostly in winter, I get the cozy sweater bug and overstock those when I could be wearing finer gauge merino or silk shirts or other knit blends indoors.

Folded on a closet shelf. One pile of blues, one pile of "others." But if I had a whole wall, I would hang them like Meredith's picture -- how cool!!! Who has a WHOLE WALL for denim, though?????

Most of my jeans are folded and filed vertically in a drawer, but some ( white jeans and coated jeans) are hung in the closet. Sometimes I iron jeans and then hang them. Jeans that I've worn once and are not yet ready for the laundry get folded and put on a shelf in the closet or hung on a hook rather than put back with clean things.

I don't have much closet space or drawer space for bulky jeans so I only hang dressier pants that wrinkle. At one point I tried folding jeans in stacks in the closet but I couldn't see them well and the stacks would always get messed up so now my jeans are folded and kept in a laundry basket. I just pull out the basket, find what I need and hide it back away. If the stacks get messed up it is all contained so it all stays in the basket.

Am I the only one that rolls jeans? I have a very small space to hang things, so trousers are in there but not jeans. They don't seem to wrinkle when rolled. I roll other things too - sweaters and sometimes tshirts.

I hang my jeans and other pants on coat/skirt hangers that hook/stack so that I hang four or five pairs at a time vertically. It, umm, allows me to hang more in the same amount of space. I hang toppers and shirts by twos. I don't do this as much with skirts because I have enough room for them on my lower rod. I'm short with correspondingly short clothing.

Yay for you Unfrumped! Just yesterday I moved my folded jeans from the drawer into a shelf on the closet. I also used to hang staging items perpendicular over top the hanging items and like you did not like the blockage. I now have two coat hooks for staging mounted on the wall next to the closet. I screwed them into the studs at a distance apart about that of my body. (I secretly always wanted a mannequin of myself for staging! haha)

Well, I
May try the drawer and see what I think. I only have about 6 pairs and each is kind of specific and 3-4 are worn less than once a month. So I wanted more " breathing room "
for more frequently worn items and for the work- morning rush.

But, at the same time I'm exploding one long- time practice , I noticed another dysfunctional system.
I've used one of those over- rod " valet" hooks, that braces on the back
wall , as s hook for an extra day outfit or new items or such. I've moved it around to a couple of different sections of closet rod.
We, I finally figured out , heck, anything hanging on it blocks part of the upper and lower rods and caused far more visual " clutter" than any benefit of staging something there. I could easily hang next-day outfit items just at a front section of rod. Currently it was partly blocking my jeans area.
I just don't have the space in the closet to use an item Lind that in a convenient way.
I've take that out and liberated my brain from trying to make it work and that may improve other things as well.

I don't have a closet, just free-standing racks. Jeans are kept in dresser drawers, even if I've worn them. I wish I could hang them on hooks to air out if they've been worn, but there's nowhere to do that. I suppose I could put a row of hooks somewhere and display all my jeans on the wall...

Mine are folded on shelves in the closet. I wear jeans so frequently and have so many, that they would take up a huge amount of hanging room. I am quite content with them that way. One pile is skinnies and straights, one is bootcuts and boyfriends, and one is patterned and colors.

I wear jeans a lot, as they are important to my smart casual work wardrobe. I've been gradually moving towards folding (by that I mean I went from hanging, to hanging some and folding others, to folding all), and now all of my jeans are folded on a closet shelf. The key was a youtube video that showed me how to fold them neatly--it involves folding in a long thin triangle to get rid of the extra material at the crotch point, thus making a more rectangular block. I'm loving it--the stack is neat and pretty, I feel I can see the jeans all at a glance, and I don't have any trouble getting a pair from the bottom of the stack. I found a lot of videos on folding that aren't necessarily Konmari but that are very helpful.

This is the jeans folding video that I used: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CyalSuBIS_M

I fold my jeans and store them on a shelf in my closet. They don't look particularly tidy, though. I suppose i could put them in an opaque box if I wanted a cleaner look, but closet clutter doesn't bother me. What about an alternate method of hanging? Is this too messy?

I fold on shelves (I don't like or own a dresser) but I would prefer to hang if I had the space. It seems like I inevitably want the pair on the bottom of the stack and getting it out messes up everything else!

I used to fold mine and store them on the shelves in my closet. Now they are hung by category on the bottom tier in my closet. I like them hanging, but I have lots of jeans, and wear them almost every day.

i'm a folder, but they go on a shelf in the closet not in a dresser. true confession, back in the mid 80's i worked for the gap, so i'm both a superb folder, and a true believer that folding is the best way to house a lot of clothing with minimal space.

I don't have a proper dresser so I hang mine. Also, I wear jeans almost every day, so I might keep them in the closet even if I had a dresser. But I can see that your thinking makes a lot of sense!
