Angie: it makes total sense. I actually generally am not accustomed to the short jacket with longer top underneath look. But I wanted a lighter colored jacket, and this is the only one I had, other than the strong shoulder jacket which didn't work with this for me for some reason.

This is a sweet outfit!

I think it would have looked even better if the jacket was longer, thereby showing less of a layering contrast with the top. Does that make sense?

I think this is a lovely outfit, and belts really emphasize your fab figure (love the crimson top on you too;-).
I didn't really mind the darker belt with the lighter items, but maybe the other lasses have a point. I love Lisa's flower pin idea!

For me, from the top up you look very sleek and from the bottom down you look very casual. That is jarring to my eye. I advocate trying some black pants. They might even work with those shoes because the shoes match the jacket. Otherwise, the top half looks good, and for other occasions I would pair it with pants and heels, or a pencil skirt would look sharp.

I'm hooked on the flower pin/brooch idea at the moment, what about a flower pin/brooch on the jacket to tie in the darker belt color? BTW, the belt looks fine placement wise.

I think you look really sweet in that outfit!

I agree with st4grrl about the contrast, try repeating the tone of the belt in a shoe.

Regarding a necklace option, you could also try a small simple pendant that sits in a V around the centre of your chest, nothing too complicated if you're feeling like the ruffles add enough interest already. Something like Angie's casual pendant:
http://youlookfab.com/2009/03/.....-necklace/

Something in a different colour of course, perhaps a black to match the belt (in fact something on a black leather cord would be perfect!).

I think then that all of your colors are good--just need something else black or dark brown to pull it together. Even a darker shoe, although I quite like those that you have on!
The belt really does emphasize your nice shape--I think that this is more of a coloring/balance/contrast issue rather than an issue with how the belt fits you--everything about THAT looks perfect!

st4rrgrrl, that's a good point about the contrast issue with the belt (it's black). I was actually thinking that a more brownish belt would tie in better.

I didn't want to add a necklace because I felt I was covered in ruffles, between the belt and the top...but that's a good idea.

The top is actually not fuchsia for once (since I wear that color all the time...), it's a maroon/dark crimson.

Great jacket and top combo! I think that the jeans fit perfectly, and I like th shoes.
Is the belt brown or black? Whichever it is, I feel like you need some other accessory in an equally dark shade (not exactly the same color; just same darkness) to kind of tie it in. ...so that the belt is not THE darkest piece on your body, which maybe cuts you in half a tad? This is a casual outfit, so maybe some beaded bracelets or a leather cuff? Or a dark-beaded necklace. Or a leather cuff AND a beaded necklace... Or a darker top underneath--like a wine color instead of the fuschia? What do you think?

http://i3.photobucket.com/albu.....1550-1.jpg

is what I wore today. Apologies for the hair and the glasses sliding down my nose (actually, I should get new frames...but that will probably wait sometime)...I just got home from lab and it's almost 11 pm.

Thoughts? It's slightly off for me, and I can't put my finger on why, regarding the belting that is. I think of course these shoes would be better combined with a slimmer pant leg, but they're comfy shoes and good for working in my lab plus I'm making sure they're 12 hour shoes for when I go to Portugal But does the jacket/cami/belt combo work? I think the back of the belt is lower in the pic than where I meant it to be.

ETA: this is in the wrong topic, sorry
